So many people pick the movies for 0079.
I watched them recently expecting to be blown away but I ended up oddly disappointed.
I felt that Soldiers of sorrow among other things botched up Ramba and Hamon and the point of the whole Bright vs. Amuro conflict was lost.
And Encounters in space was overall a lot less intense than I remember.
Should I just rewatch the series or have I come to idealize it over time?Have I glossed some parts over in my memory to make it fit better with Zeta and CCA?
I know it had a lot of flaws but I remember it way more clear cut.
Is this a common experience?

I personally think that the best order is to watch up to episode 30 and then switch to Encounters in Space. The last arc of the TV show was bogged down with pointless MOTW mobile armors because the cancellation meant that enough had to be cut out that some filler had to be put in. I agree with you on Soldiers of Sorrow though, it really breaks the flow of Amuro's character development. The first movie always seemed inoffensive to me though- not too much was lost from the series.

I largely share your views, I wouldn't choose or recommend the films over the series, but there were some aspects to them that I did enjoy. I do agree that Soldiers of sorrow was pretty poor in comparison to the series, and the part where the first movie ended was very unfitting. mentions, I really like the insert songs in it, it really made the ending that much better. Add "Encounters" into the tv soundtrack and I would be fine if we erased the movies from existence.

Also, this. It might just be shit taste, but I genuinely can't think of a Gundam I didn't enjoy quite a bit for what it was. I can recognize the flaws in all the series, just like I can for any other anime, but I still like and enjoy them. I think Gundam as a whole is very good, because each series manages to entertain me for what it is, and I can't think of any other purpose a cartoon is supposed to have, save pushing plastic (even then, Gundam has succeed in that aspect as well since I have a few gunpla)
Can't comment on CE though, since it's the only timeline I haven't seen yet.

Yes.I have to admit that I might have been disappointed because of my personal delusions and headcanons.
For example I swear I can remember a scene in which Hayato was like "If you don't want Fraw I'll be having her." and Amuro just stood there looking at him like "WTF,dude.Can't you see I have other problems?" and then just walked away.Did I dream this up?Did it happen in some other show?
And then Kycilia.I could have sworn she is one of my most favouritest characters ever but she had like three scenes in three movies.Did I base my eternal undying love on this? Was she always this irrelevant?
And then,this is getting too close for my trigger zone for comfort,but I when i watched the series I was absolutely convinced that Char and Lalah were lovers.They gave me that mature and comfy sort of feel, but when I watched the movie it was more like some cheesy half-assed teenage love story:

The plot is the definition of shoe horning but the villain is great and it has some of the coolest mech designs in UC, just in general. The GPs are amazing, the jims are just as amazing. Love that shit
