You guys are trolling, right?
You can't really think this is a solid narrative.... even Tomino admitted it was shit.
Is it the animation? The mecha designs? Those are wonderful. But in terms of telling a compelling story with good characterization this just doesnt follow any rules of the narrative form. The first 10 episodes are nothing but whiplash paced cuts to seemingly unrelated events with characters acting completely the opposite of how they were when we last saw them, who then proceed to talk about backpacks until the next action scene.
How could you enjoy something so rushed and handled with such little care that even its creator couldn't be excited for? I've seen flawed gems, but this is more than flawed.
we had this thread yesterday right?
cool, see yall tomorrow
That has been debunked several times. Tomino never said that, ANN is just a shit website. These are the same people who cried about Cross Ange's first episode being "misogynistic".
Anyways. I agree that some of the scenes are jarring, but if you sit down and think about what is going on all the character motivations, interactions, and the plot points all make allot of sense and are quite clever. The story itself is a nice adventure story, the world is fantastically developed ( though we really needed 50 episodes to flesh it out), and Tomino inserted allot of little easter eggs that highlighted the local culture of the place the cast were visiting.
Now the show did have some pacing problems, certainly, but- as much as I hate to say it, the hardline haters of G-Reco just don't seem to really be on Tomino's level, and that is a problem with them, not Tomino. The show is pretty clearly an 8/10 .
I could quote an anon shitposting here and it would be the same
G-Reco, towards the end, reminded me of English Lit. class. It's there, there's meaning to it, but it's not all spelled out for the audience. Thus, the audience who want to understand it read into it, forming their own analysis and opinions about the state of the Reguild Century.
Which plays into the overall moral of the story. Instead of blantant (and sometimes hypocritical) cries of UNDERSTANDING, G-Reco is about true understanding of the world around you. Don't just go with the narrative provided by adults/culture/religion, see the world with your own eyes, listen to what's being said, and come to your own conclusions about what needs to be done. Ultimately it calls back to the message of the original series, it's about entrusting the future to the next generation and hoping they won't make the same mistakes we have.
G-Reco is actually pretty clever in terms of how it approaches many of the standard storytelling techniques used in Gundam. Really, it often feels Tomino spent more time trying to be clever, adding scenes that feel like they were added simply because they were novel, rather than trying to tell a coherent story.
Seed has a bunch of 1/100 scale models. Are you gonna pretend it's good now? Fucking idiot.
People who say G-Reco is bad are the true autists of this board and should spare the rest of us from having to deal with their toxic presence. You can't even keep your dumbass opinions to yourself. Hell, you act like your opinions are fact.
"It's a bad story because my retarded ass for brains can't keep up waaah I need more exposition spoonfed to me" -You
>Worst ratings for it's timeslot since AGE
>Had to sell their BDs half off with a code for a game
>plot is only more consistent due to the fact that it's literally made for brainless manchildren who circlejerk about how badass their manlet MC with no character is.
IBO is the Rambo III of the franchise.
Yeah, except for the fact that you people are the whiny little babies who can't let go of the fact that people like a show you don't (because it's beyond you) so you throw your little tantrums and start stupid threads like these.
Either grow up or leave.
>I'm a expert anime critic!
>I pretend to show that my shit show has a deep meaning even though the creator said it flopped badly
>I get butthurt when people point the obvious and I'm a denial faggot
Certainly better written than IBO.
Hey, Anon? Do you wanna reborn? You know they say when you die, you can come back to live another life! Astounding isn't it? That's what it means to be reborn. I bet you want to be reborn, huh? Maybe when you're reborn you won't be such a humongous faggot!
Remember kids, the word of the week is reborn!
Keep crying, bitch. At the end of the day I enjoyed a good show and that giant stick up your ass isn't coming out anytime soon. You're the one who seems to enjoy being butthurt and crying about a cartoon.
it seems you have the stick up your ass with how desperately you want to state your opinion, *as a fact*
this flopped because they made it at the same time as try, which was even worse
It's funny that you mention waifu threads because that's all the discussion about IBO is ever about. There's nothing else interesting in the show because it can't even make a paramilitary escort group fighting space pirates and the military interesting.
Literally the only thing I've been saying is that G-Reco was good. You haven't given a single supportive statement to back up your argument. You're just letting your tears fall on your keyboard to type out your posts. Desperately.
I don't have the screenshot. But someone who could speak moon came in with the actual article a few times and translated for us and there was nothing in there about Tomino rating G-Reco 15/100. He did say that things didn't go perfectly and that a few mistakes were made, ANN decided to take that as " THIS SHOW WAS A COMPLETE FAILURE DON'T EVEN WATCH IT" due to their own biases against the show.
As someone who loves G-Reco, I'm not baffled by the fact that people dislike the show; I'm baffled by the reasons people dislike it. The show seems perfectly easy to follow to me, and all the characters' actions and motivations make sense. It honestly struck me as the kind of show you'd show to someone who is skeptical of anime as a whole, something that is both accessible and great. I understand why people thought Brain Powerd was an incomprehensible mess; I don't with G-Reco. I'm honestly shocked that the mainstream opinion (at least here in the west; I honestly don't know about Japan) is so different from my own.
g-reco is brain powerd with a gundam skin. I like the show but the show is far from "perfect" like op said alot of cuts have a whiplash effect and sure you can what happened but its not nice and clean, its poorly done.
How fucking new are you?
We've had greco shitposting consistently for nearly 2 years
Whats wrong? no IBO episode this week and no threads and now youre starved for attention or something?
I call it Raraiya effect.
I think what throws me off about G-reco...
It isn't really the unorthodox narrative. It's that it doesn't really seem to convey any themes of messages that prior Gundam series directed by Tomino haven't covered before.
This wouldn't be so weird, except the guy pretty much came out of retirement to work on Gundam one last time, and the messages just kind of feel like a shakier interpretation of ones from Victory and Turn A.
>Don't just go with the narrative provided
>make up headcanon to explain the gaps and insult people who point out the gaps as if they were too stupid to "get it" instead of acknowledging the presence of gaps you needed to fill
>scenes that feel like they were added simply because they were novel, rather than trying to tell a coherent story
Ever talked to a schizophrenic? Ask them how there day went. You'll get a loooooong list of seeming non-sequitur details, tiny little highly specific details. If you listen to the whole thing and analyze it, their whole day will actually be in there amidst the pointless details and you can sort it out in your head and then marvel at the level of detail they included in the story.
But it's still schizophrenic rambling, not coherent storytelling.
