Guys I think I've got it.

The basic premise would be more in line with Cutie Honey but with a dash of Black magic M-66 to update it to 80s tropes:
The army hires a robotics engineer to build an experimental combat droid who happens to look like a fit girl in a leotard, because its conceptor is a big nerd and a huge fan of superhero comics.
The project is decommissioned when the military contractors discover that not only does the robot look a bit out-of-place in a military environment, but it's also sentient and doesn't like killing people. Also she's a bit of an airhead. Our girl is now out of a job, and her creator's reputation is tarnished.
So what does she do? She sets up shop as an aerobics instructor since it's the only profession that requires stamina and a leotard, and she happens to have both. That way she can live a normal life and support her dad financially.
However, the army didn't abandon research on this project, and, using stolen blueprints, another team of engineers built a series of proper killbots that will have to prove their worth by finding and destroying their prototype, which is to say our girl, because after all, she shouldn't be allowed to operate among civilians. On top of that, the military also have power suits for good measure.
The plot revolves around the main girl's attempts to live a normal life while fighting off more or less batshit insane military killbots who are after her and her dad.
