Seriously, Winter 2016's lineup is pretty meh. I'm only checking Sekko Boys and Ojii-san to Marshmallow on the non /m/ side of things due to their silly sounding plots. The only other one that looks kinda cool is Prince of Stride, but that is probably nothing more than fujobait. Good season to get through backlog at any rate.

I think it's interesting enough to have a police meets tokusatsu show in this day and age, so yes. I will be watching Active Raid myself. The Orange 3DCG will also make the fights decent, which is a bonus. The rest of the 2D animation is only "meh" but that's never been a priority for me (there have been many bad shows with great animation).

Eh, I don't think this is being hyped up even a quarter as much as A/Z so I don't expect too many normalfags to be watching. The vague Code Geass connection won't be enough for people who expect a show with a different premise (teens rebelling or saving the world) and not "heroic police" for instance.

There will be some QUALITY but even Sunrise has been giving us some of that with Gundam IBO lately, so it's business as usual for the anime industry.

While she was already going full hard boiled near the end of s1, my only regret about s1 would that they should have showed more of it. I don't feel like watching s2 for this sole reason, as s1 was perfectly fine stand alone, and s2 feels like milking as the original writer Urobuchi didn't write it.

I think most of the cast is already out of high school at this point, so I don't think it will be too anime. On the other hand, I do expect some slice of life/sitcom sequences, just like with T&B and Patlabor to provide comedy, since it can't be all action all the time.

I will give you that this show is using a more normal anime art style rather than a Marvel/DC comics derivative or something, but it's not like we kill ourselves every time a character isn't drawn differently in our /m/ shows.

As for the "air about this show"...again, have you looked at the PVs as well as the rest of the art? If you're just focusing on one picture, it's silly. Even Majestic Prince had promotional pictures in magazines showing all the girls in bikinis or whatever and that didn't take over the show.

At this point there's less observation and more speculation to be honest.

You're just calling the character generic because you don't like her gender and/or design, regardless of what role she will play within the narrative. I was using that to illustrate that having such a personality can in fact be a good starting point for a character. If you prefer some other kind of personality then so be it, but I think it's a decent one.

It's already pretty different from the rest of the shows airing this season (and the last) so I think it's fair to assume the show will be interesting and entertaining enough for those who don't immediately fall over as soon as something seems "generic" .

For that matter, you remind me that toku has plenty of female and/or girl characters these days, for which they also choose cute actresses. Ergo, that's not something that can be avoided in that genre either. You going to dismiss all those shows as generic too?

Do you realize this applies to almost every mecha show and most toku productions as well?

From SDF Macross to 7 and Frontier to Delta, or from Zeta Gunadm to ZZ and G Gundam to Wing or SEED to 00.

Characters who are physically attractive and have some easily identifiable traits is nothing strange. However, they can still be decent characters even if they have such elements.

It's really only in harem situations that one trait dominates a character in a terrible way because there is little need to tie them to a story and the status quo must be protected at all costs. Which isn't necessarily the case since there is no harem involve here and Active Raid isn't adapting a light novel or some such where circular situations are normal.

I think this show might be a a bit like Majestic Prince in that it won't look all that new and unusual at first glance but may actually turn out to be a pretty fun experience in the long run. Certainly more than shows like Valvrave that tried to go all insane but had nothing of value to show for it.
