Hey /m/, lets have a nice friendly favorite thread.
What are your favorite designs? Anime, games, western, Japanese, it's all good. Lets have a nice thread to discuss and show off our favorite mecha designs. I'll start with one of my favorites (pic related).
I loved the cannons and I love how cartoonish it looks, not to mention how little credit it gets in the series, I kinda guess it grew on me.
I know it's another Gundam original design, but what can, I say, I love claws.
And the mono-eye designs are all really solid in my opinion.
So what mecha do you like /m/?
>MP variants that look better than the prototype
Just saying RX-78 describes a bunch of significantly different designs though.
There seems to be a distinct lack of high quality King J-Der images.
I also really liked Exia, Kyrios, and
I kind of like the 1.5/OYW style from the early 2000s regardless, but the on top GM II style chest vents were maybe the silliest RX-78 design trend we had to put with for a few years, considering they never did turn the original MG Gundam into a GM II anyways and that style of vents never showed up on any new RX-78 variants between Zeta and the first MG. (there was a few Katoki GMs but the colour schemes toned it down in 0083)
I've always been a sucker for big green death traps.
I've always thought that the MKII in the original colors was just wonderful as well, manages to be very bare boned without being boring.
Layzner also does it for me. It looks like the RX-78's weird blue cousin, it is charming in that 80s kind of way,
Gaplant is another favorite. It just looks incredibly sleek and embodies much of what Gryps war combat was all about design wise.
Qubeley combines the funnel monster appeal of the Quin Mansa that I love with the sleekness of some of the other MS I posted.
I'm also a huge fan of Sazabi.
Finally. I love all the Mecha from Brain Powerd. They look so incredibly jarring and alien. I just started on the series so I can't quite determine a favorite out of them yet.
I always liked the design of the Powered GM, as well as the regular GM. They seem to be the most realistic and most cartoonish suits at the same time.
>kind of hungry
>start thinking about how great burgers are
>captcha shows me burgers
Fuck you, captcha.
But Okawara still does art.
Things that makes the machine looks so angry. Like GGG's mouth-plate.
For what ever reason, i really like the Re-GZ.
I like this design just as much as I like all the ass and titties in the show.
I think Dancouga looks cool as fuck but I haven't watched the show.
Reco has some fantastic designs, but the Elf Bullock is one of my favorites.
You're a tremendous faggot. Without Okawara, there'd be no Gundam, Layzner, Dougram, Xabungle, GaoGaiGar, Vifam, etc.
He was literally the first person in anime ever to be credited as a "mechanical designer". Nigga literally pioneered a field.
I feel like the Nouvel GM 3 is its successor, design wise
>Gundam, Layzner, Dougram, Xabungle, GaoGaiGar, Vifam, etc.
Only half of those are good, the rest are shit
>Nigga literally pioneered a field.
That doesn't mean he's a good artist.
He was a shit artist but a good mecha designer, but now he's a shit artist and a shit designer
>He was and is a great artist.
HAHAHAHA nice one.
>u can't criticize him since u can't draw
This argument is retarded and you know it. If a chef gives you food that tastes like shit and you complain, is he going to say you can't criticize him because you're not a chef?
Always been a fan of the Mudrock. it's a Dom and a Guncannon combined into something amazing
This. As a chef, I sometimes have a morbidly fat fuck or berserk looking hobo send the waiter to me to complain that he wants ketchup for his meal. For vichyssoise.
Okawara is lauded by just about all mecha artists as an inspiration and his designs and art have sold dozens of anime series. I don't think he cares that some kid on /m/ who likes CG trash dislikes his art.
I getcha man, I love claws too. I also love the weird designs of the aquatic Zeon MS, for me it's a toss up between the Gogg and the Zock.
Who the fuck has ketchup in soup
Jesta Cannon. It's the best combination of sleek + bristling with weapons.
- Head vulcans
- 4 separate 3-grenade racks
- Shoulder beam cannon
- 4-tube shoulder launcher
- Beam rifle with standard or burst fire
- Shield with a 2-tube missile launcher built in
And it has extra e-caps for the beam rifle in it's arm.
Right now I'm caught up in the Atlas Gundam's design. I think I just like the color scheme more than anything and the fact that it looks outrageously maneuverable.
>it's the client's fault for not liking my shit food!
Is this how Okawarafags always argue?
>I don't think he cares that some kid on /m/ who likes CG trash dislikes his art.
Nice projecting pal, I never said anything about CG
Okawara is a shit artist and a shit designers, and you Okawarafags need to stop denying this.
>shit artist and shit designer
I guess every artist to work in the Japanese mecha anime industry is wrong, and you are right. How foolish we've been all along. Better call the Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art and tell them to take down all the Okawara stuff, because it's bad.
Also call the Japan Media Arts Festival and tell them to revoke the “Lifetime Achievement Award” that they gave him and no other anime artist, ever, for his contributions to the media arts. Because they're also wrong.
tl;dr, you're a fuckin' idiot.
I think the early concept looks better, i thinks it proportions, but to each his own
>We will never see art of this style again
although at the same time we'll never have old nagano
As sleek as the AALIYAH is, I have a much stronger attachment to the earlier lightweight Emeraude/Crest types, they're just so perfect
Manages to be sleek and bold in all the right places
>Also, literally no one will agree with you that he's a shit designer.
>this is what Okawarafags actually believe
>I guess every artist to work in the Japanese mecha anime industry is wrong, and you are right
Every artist in the Japanese mecha anime industry is better than Okawara.
>tl;dr, you're a fuckin' idiot.
>says the Okawarafags
Go jerk off to one of his shitty designs someone else faggot
>reply to a comment from over two hours ago that everyone else has moved on from
>HA HA THAT'LL SHOW THEM
This is shitty bait and I'm STILL giving you your *You*. This is literally a favorite designs thread. This is THE thread to jerk off to Okawara designs if you like them. Stop being an edgy contrarian faggot.
Please see >>13700778
Okawara is already acknowledged. Who's your favorite designer/artist, anon? Nearly all of them are on record with quotes praising him. I can get you ones from Obari right now.
So, unless your favorite is Syd Mead, who doesn't give a fuck about anyone else, they probably love Okawara.
Best mobile suit
These guys know what's up. I can't put just one design on top especially when it comes to Kawamori's AC parts, but those and Yoji Shimkawa designs like Anubis are top notch.
I also have a deep appreciation for Nagano's older designs
To pick one favorite design out of those, I just can't do it
>he doesn't like my shit designs made by my shit artist
>lol ur jus an edgy contrarin fagot xDD
Okawarafag please kill yourself.
>Okawara is already overrated
I see Okawarafags have crossed the ultimate denial barrier
How does one man get this mad at people liking an artist?
>How does one man get this mad at people liking a shit artist?
ftfy, and that's the reason. Okawara is an overrated shit artist. He had more than 30 years to improve his skills yet he never did.
Remember that episode of Gatchaman where they had to fight that giant Jesus lava robot that came out of the side of Not Mt. Rushmore?
Okawara probably had to design that. Can you imagine your boss telling you to draw a giant Jesus lava robot?
What a great job.
Original Gundam (specifically the Zaku II)
Zeta Gundam (specifically Mark II)
War in the Pocket
G Gundam (specifically Shining and God)
SEED (specifically the Strike)
Destiny (specifically the Impulse)
00 (specifically the 0 Gundam)
You might as well just say "I fucking hate Gundam"
>Original Gundam (specifically the Zaku II)
>Zeta Gundam (specifically Mark II)
>War in the Pocket
This is when he was good
>G Gundam (specifically Shining and God)
>SEED (specifically the Strike)
>Destiny (specifically the Impulse)
>00 (specifically the 0 Gundam)
And this is when he was shit
But F91, Victory, G, 08th MS and Stardust Memory have some of the best designs.
SEED, Destiny and 00 I'll give you, since they're just rehashes of older designs but seriously, fuck you.
Stardust Memory is more Kawamori and Katoki than Okawara
>I never knew anybody could be hipster enough to call Stardust Memories designs bad.
Like I said above, Stardust Memory is more Kawamori and Katoki than Okawara
>But F91, Victory, G, 08th MS and Stardust Memory have some of the best designs.
F91 nope, Victory yes, but by Katoki not by him, G nope except for Master Gundam and Nobell Gundam, 8th MS nope, Stardust Memories yes but not by Okawara.
Am I the only one who prefers the Mk1 for L-Gaim?
Hyaku Shiki is easily one of my favorites along side the Nu Gundam, Sazabi, and Qubeley
I can't say I like them all that much.
For the Delta the gold seems more useless now that it has a shield, and it transforms which makes me think it's gaudy for the sake of being gaudy. IMO
Akatsuki has to much going on for me, and I have never liked most SEED Gundam designs because of that. IMO
They're not bad it's just that even though the HS was gold, and was probably designed to be gaudy I just never get that feeling from it.
I may have used gaudy to much
Fuck do none of you kids on this board know anything anymore?
>War in the Pocket
Those are 100% all Izubuchi designs
He's only credited because a standard Ball shows up somewhere.
This is only some of the grunts though (GunEZ, Zolo, Zoloat)
>SEED (specifically the Strike)
The original 5 Gundams are the only MS in SEED TV that specifically weren't entirely designed by Okawara.
>00 (specifically the 0 Gundam)
You mean only the 0 Gundam.
>leaves out Wing where he designed all the TV Gundams
>leaves out X where he designed all the Gundams
There was a period of time in the early 90s where Okawara did very detailed hardcore real type MS designs but that kind of stuff didn't catch on in that era and they have younger guys now, so these days his role is specifically nostalgia based.
I dislike 99% of all mecha designs. They're either super fugly and toyetic or completely bland, samey and forgettable.
However, if it was designed by Nagano, Kobayashi or Toriyama, chances are it makes my dick rock hard. Gampe here is my all-time favourite.
My first gundam love, started the love I have for the series. A lot of you guys have already mentioned other suits I like so this is my contribution. Special shout out to Jegans though.
I whole heartedly agree I love God but Shining is my favorite. I also forgot to mention Victory. I love the plain and sleek look it has.
I really like the gyan...
It's just so fucking weird
beep beep best supah robo spinning through
I should have clarified: the design is beautiful, and really gives off that chess piece look, as well as the iconic zeke cyclops look.
The combat style is what is weird.
Missile pod shield, rapier style Saber attack pattern. It made for one of my favorite fights in 0079
That is true, innit? The Gyan was likely developed before it was known the Federation was developing MS. That and its fancy fencing fighting style are probably why it lost to the Gouf and later Dom as a mass-produced MS.
I would love to see a gyan vs a GM. The slaughter would be epic.
Also, the gouf was a great mobile suit.... as long as Ramba ral was the pilot. Otherwise it was a glorified zaku with a whip
That was the design basis of the things, really.
The ground type Zakus were simply space MS with their thrusters removed. Since they were only generally okay at ground combat,
the EF held for a pretty long time with no MS, zeeks were spacenoid wimpsthe Gouf was intended to be a whole new, if similar suit made by Zeonic to cover the deficiencies of ground Zakus. However, Zimmad's Dom, developed during a similar timeframe, proved to be so superior to the Gouf it was picked as the new mainstay ground MS instead. It also helped that, despite being designed as a dedicated ground MS it was still easily adapted for space, hence the variant Rick Dom.
By the time the Dom and Rick Dom were truly about in numbers the GM had arrived, already outperforming it in several departments. Zeonic's Gelgoog, though outstripping the GM and Dom in performance and already in mass production, never had the numbers or pilots to do much.
>tfw deleted your own post to fix the spoiler
God help me.
Anyway all of that info is in supplemental material and the like.
>If a chef gives you food that tastes like shit and you complain, is he going to say you can't criticize him because you're not a chef?
Terrible counter argument since you don't have to be a chef to cook food that doesn't taste like shit.
The Gyan was developer to work in tandem with the Dom. The Gyan would jump in and attack everything in melee range while the Dom would hang back and bombard everything with its giant bazooka. This is why the Dom's melee weapon was inferior to the Goufs and Gyans.
I'll do that but it's not a big deal if you have to ask where they're from. Some stuff isn't as mainstream and recognized as Gundam so it's to be expected if some people aren't aware of them. Doesn't help Muv Luv is a VN series and those aren't as popular as anime.
Not just the base deign, but all the design work that went into all his different weapons and transformations. There's so much there, especially when you consider that his moveset changed a lot each game.
I love its bulkiness and color scheme. It also probably has the most practical head in all of Gundam.
Ez8 would be my favorite gundam. I just love how unique it looks
I love all the Delta variants, but the Kai is by far my favorite. The Plus is a distant second.
Rick Dom a shit. It's turn around time is a fucking joke, way worse than a regular Zaku. GM's can fucking dance around it, and with Beam Spray Guns, can chew through the armour.
That said, I actually like the regular Dom, because the Zaku is much less effective on the ground.
