Officially 2016 in the east coast
FIRST DANCOUGA thread of the new year
The good kind of weird overall though, I think.
Oh, whoops, wrong page. Meant to post that second and this one first.
Yeah, but it would require the Eagle Fighter from that series to have been much larger than the original, and as they point out the combined form would have kind of shit mobility.
I do love how Burn's upgrade is "we took away the ability to decombine, but now being combined won't fucking murder you after a few minutes".
And the ability to turn its HEAD INTO A SWORD. That's just fucking great.
the knees get me every time, though.
Cougar just has this resigned look on it's face and liger is just happy to be seen
Oh, and I forgot the other part of the upgrade - the Dankuuhou isn't as ludicrously long as it was beforehand.
any more shit like that?
see I prefer my cannons to be giant and fuck off so that bit doesn't do it for me s'much
same for swords
the more fuck off the better
It's an undefeated of the east thing
Also: One of the more creative finishers out there. It's not that many mechs that can weaponize their combination sequence. (Before you say Getter Emperor, pretty sure this came first)
No. Her mech upgrade is Goldran
Nova had a few decombing tricks too which is something I really always love seeing.
>Episode ends with them be constricted by giant robot snake as a cliffhanger
>Next episode starts with them uncombined and tearing ass inside of it.
It just did all these little things that brought a smile to my face
I'm still sort of annoyed that it took until, like, Episode 9 for Nova's elephant mech to transform into Human mode. If it weren't for the opening, you might have been tricked into thinking that mode was purely for the combination in Nova until that point.
the nova beast could have used more screen time yeah but 12 episodes, what ya gonna do
It would seem our not so friendly neighborhood ninjas won again
I consider her the standard that should be aspired too, yes
I think thatd be dolores or noa
she's cool tho
I dunno what she saw in that Shapiro guy though. I mean he was a make up wearing traitorous loon from the start and she was seconds away from comitting treason herself
>DROWNS IN HOT LAVA
Both Dancouga and Dancouga nova have their fans, and large flaws. Both are very different shows (one of the reasons Dancouga fans hate nova.)
Both have hot blooded moments, and kickass mechs.
at least it got completed and scanned tho
You can't expect me to deliver a shit release after this much time.
I translated the main story but nobody was interested in cleaning/editing the HQ scans (the ones on panda are shit with cropping). Finishing the futa pages is still a priority for me though.
At this point, I don't really care about what it is you put out. I just want to see that you genuinely have been working on this. Far too many times have I been strung along in hopes of something that didn't happen.
37.8 meters isn't that big by mech standards. It is much bigger than the original Dancouga though, which was something along the lines of 30m. (Though it's been L in every SRW with it, I don't get that.)
and we're just saying you're a twat and no one cares what you think
If I watched mecha expecting literary masterpieces, I would have left the genre behind long ago. Haven't even seen one so far that I'd consider as such unless Metal Gear Solid 3 counts.
The more important concern here is whether the action scenes look pretty and whether the characters are enjoyable.
I do like how Nova is set up around making you think something is going to happen, and then having something else happen.
>girl with blue hair
>totally rei clone
>NOPE IT'S FEMALE RAMBO
>opening has evil looking glasses man who turns out to be their boss
>going to be evil boss
>NOPE HE'S REALLY FUCKING CHILL AND SHIT
>Norio Wakamoto back in Dancouga franchise
>Shapiro is literally the role that got him into villain roles, this shit is obvious.
>yeah he's the villain AND ALSO THIS GOOD GUY TOO SO HA
I do think they did it one time too many though, specifically with pic related. That might be me being sad that the only time we'll ever see Final Dancouga's combination sequence is in a video game that is nigh impossible to play outside of Japan, and difficult to obtain even there. And it's in SD as far as I know.
Plus it actually did a lot of subtle nods to the original series, things like the Dankuuken not working that one time because they used too much energy before pulling it out (which never happened, unless it did in BE, but was something that could have happened due to how the Dankuuken is formed), or, hell, the time limit combination and the reason for that (yeah, it's partly because Gravion Drei, but it's also a BURN reference.)
Watching Norio Wakamoto trying to be both the hammy guy and the calmer guy in a conversation with himself is always amazing. Though, part of that is the fact that even when he tries to be emotionless, his voice fucking owns every scene it gets into.
Oh, you know what Dancouga Nova also did? It borrowed a character from Goshogun. That was pretty cool.
>I translated the main story but nobody was interested in cleaning/editing the HQ scans (the ones on panda are shit with cropping).
Would you still happen to have the pastebin for the translation?
Feel free to shit on Dancougar all goddamn day. If it takes throwing Dancougar under the bus to make Nova sound better, then I think that's saying something if you can't even bring up it's own merits other than "well, Dancougar sucks too!"
Dancougar Nova is just a level above Great Dangaioh as far as I'm concerned.
And, no, I don't mean that in a disappointing sequel way, I mean in a boring, trite, we're not going to do anything with these characters, and we're certainly not going to do anything with the plotandthenpretendwehaveaplotgoinginthelasttwoepisodes, and even that wasn't any goddamn good.
And it's not like it even had to be DEEP, or shit, even have much of a plot going, as long as it did something interesting. Some amusing episodes would have helped. But instead, make way for "hey! homless guy gets an episode! He's homeless...just because he wants to be! What a noble cause!" You guys remember that fun island romp that amounted to nothing, right? You know, the one with the kingdom that you don't remember the name of?
I mean, I'll use Dancougar Nova if it's in SRW, but this show wasn't good, even for popcorn entertainment.
Apparently the ES Gokin Dancouga didn't fall off the face of the earth after all. Even though it was first shown in 2009 and still hasn't been released.
EVERYONE remembers Klein Sandman though. I felt it unnecessary to add that.
great, now I'm imagining a british guy narrating over the scene
I like how you ignore that the previous anons here have brought up things they liked about the show and instead insist that we can't come up with positive elements about it
I mean, the problem is that you absolutely hated it and assume that your judgment of the show is the only acceptable opinion of the show. Some of us liked the characters and some of us were amused by some of the episodes! I personally enjoyed Seimi shenanigans, Sakuya being such a gigantic nerd that he asks for a rocket punch installed on his mech just so he could scream all he want, everything about Aoi and Kurara, and Johnny's running gag about reading everything from magazines. Hell, Eida's inoffensive too. The plot isn't all that amazing but it was just window dressing for the main mech kicking all kinds of ass and it delivered so as far as I'm concerned at least it did its job.
We also don't deny that the show had problems, such as building up plots that don't really go nowhere, or subpar animation considering it's an Obari show or whatever, but hell, the people in this thread enjoyed it for what it was nonetheless. So maybe take the stick out of your ass and accept that some of us actually found the things you found reprehensible actually ok, all things considered?
>Sakuya being such a gigantic nerd that he asks for a rocket punch installed on his mech just so he could scream all he want
A rocket punch controlled by one of the feet, no less. Just so he could be the one to fire it.
Sakuya was fucking great.
>any more shit like that?
>Sakuya being such a gigantic nerd that he asks for a rocket punch installed on his mech just so he could scream all he want,
He did that becaus--You know what
Instead of shitting on this show, I'm going to give it another chance.
It doesn't. It's 90% unrelated.
The relation it has is: The main character is named Shinobu, their main rival is named Shapiro, and they pilot a robot called Dancouga which has similar components and weapons to the original. Also the Foa are alien invaders like Muge was.
