>>12082807 I'm still half-way through. If it gets better funding I'd like them to do a fully-voiced game if that's possible.
I only have two complaints: 1. Is that that the various difficulty levels are, for lack of a better word, "artificially hard." Especially with the goddamn missile spam. They should limit the amount of missiles enemy ships get just like you, instead of giving them an infinite supply. This is more to my personal tastes but I hate it in strategy games (and other games in general) when they make the enemy more buffs to damage and defense yet give you penalties. I'd prefer it if they simply made the AI smarter, perhaps throw more varied and numerous ships, and maybe a few buffs within reason.
2. Is that there isn't really a fully fledged romance system. I should be to pick muh waifu and fire vanguards on her. Bonus points for Haram option
>>12082841 It's called Sunrider: Mask of Arcadius. It's free on Steam. I didn't mention it by name or deets because I didn't want anyone to think I was shilling.
It's a hybrid strategy/visual novel game. It's set in space and you're this captain of a new Ship of the Line called the "Sunrider" . Your home planet gets decimated by this evil empire and basically you go around to stop their conquests. Your crew consists of the Sunrider and a bunch of qt animu grils in mechs you find who join your cause. That's where the visual novel parts come into play. Basic Haram VN stuff but fairly interesting and there are points where you have to make hardpressed decisions about the war.It may seem basic but it has a nice charm about it and seems to poke fun/homage mech tropes. Additionally most of the characters are interesting. You'll definitely find at least one of these semen demons to be your waifu.
I'm grossing oversimplifying the story. There are a few twists and turns and intersting points. It's not philosophically enlightening or anything but better than you might think it is.
Love in Space doesn't seem to be very good at providing status updates, though they are updating their projects. Right now it seems as though they're trying to get Sunrider Academy done first before they work on anything else, since they'll actually be charging money for that
>>12082901 Pretty in-depth surprisingly. It's a turn based hex-grid system and your primary units are the Sunrider and the "Ryders" (the mechs of the game).
Basically each unit you have is given a certain amount of energy and can do various actions (move/shoot/buffs etc).
One thing that I liked that you don't see in many sci-fi games is that they distinguish direct energy/thermal damage (lasers/plasma/beam) from kinetic damage. So different enemies will have different defenses/do different damages.
After each battle you are alotted command points that you can use to do special commands such as a morale boost were atk is up or fire a devastatingly powerful laser from the Sunrider.
You can upgrade the ship and the ryders of your hangar girls.
The strategic combat is pretty good, although it feels like the only satisfaction you get out of it is the satisfaction of beating really cheap odds with your mostly inferior units - it's like a weird Reverse Galaxy Angels situation where the snowflake mechs are shit while the Battleship tears everyone a new asshole.
I enjoyed the game a lot but I find the later part of 2 become insanely hard with the limited amount of funding you get and also how bais the system is to the enemy. I mean it kinda suck that your ryders dont contribute more to the fight I mean the yellow one is especially shit since you have to have enough en to go to the enemy Ryder, kill it and run back so that ships wont one shot it. and late game I remember that kinetic is the the only weapon you should focus on
>>12082907 If you order her to move backwards she pretends to imitate a forklift and says Beep Beep Beep I also got a good chuckle when she shouted I'ma firen mah lazor when you use her beam cannons. Asaga a best girl
>>12085492 You can say that, but this game feels like Amuro, Kamille and Kira all got onto their super shiny Nu/Zeta/Freedom and yet still barely survive each mission from getting their face bashed in by hordes of Zakus and Musais.
>>12085661 >this game feels like Amuro, Kamille and Kira all got onto their super shiny Nu/Zeta/Freedom and yet still barely survive each mission from getting their face bashed in by hordes of Zakus and Musais. SOLD
Some of this it seems they've already delivered on. >Bigger Battles? There has definitely been more than 15 units on the enemy side. >Battle Voices. Excluding the enemies. >Beach episode. I haven't gotten to that point in the story but from my understanding this happens? >Command Decisions. Unless they're planning to add a shit ton more.
But fuck yeah I definately want an Emperor Arc. I wish this was an option from the beginning of the game. I want to go LoGH on this shit.
And Harem ending too
>>12086079 Do you know how many missiles each of them get?
Played before the second part came out and before the hex update.
>If we don't finish up quick we're going to get our shit kicked in >Screen floods with enemy reinforcements if you don't >Can get a few kills in for dosh before having your combat effectiveness completly expended >Great balance between the risk/reward of getting the job done and pushing your luck for more upgrades
Most games would have some game over turn limit for this kind of shit but I'm glad they had the actual overwhelming forces show up instead. Really added some spice to that final mission in part one.
I think the main thing I want to know is how linear is the final product cause I felt most of the choice means shit and the lack of side mission annoys me since the last few mission is hard enough with the lack of funds
>>12088333 The important thing to know is that there's an aggro system in place, so if you use one unit to kill off everything, he's going to be gangraped on enemy phrase.
Most of the time, Laser weapons are the least useful upgrade, Kinetics are the best. This is because you spend a lot of time fighting battleships.
Sunrider: Best unit, but don't get too complacent - it tends to be a victim of the Aggro system. Kinetics, Missiles and Defense upgrades are good.
Blackjack: Kind of shit except at like the very tail end of the 2nd chapter. Some early missile upgrades are fine and it's biggest use. It's too Jack of All Trades to be that useful
Liberty: Couple of EN upgrades, enough so that she can use 2 or 3 of her buff/debuffs per turn and that's all. Upgrade defenses if you like especially shields but she's very low maintenence.
Bianca: Like Liberty, just enough EN to use Grav Gun twice is fine.
Phoenix: Specialized in kind of the worst way possible for how most missions are set up, but has a couple of niche usage in 2nd chapter. Needs more EN, a bit of damage and accuracy to one-shot Pace Elites once they start showing up. Outside of that she'll mostly stand near to your units to provide Flak defense.
Seraphim: Well, she's pretty braindead to upgrade, seeing as how she only has one weapon. Some people like to pump lots of money into her so that she can fire off 2 Sniper Shots per round, but that costs a lot of money.
Paladin: The opposite of Phoenix in that it's specialized in a good way - Big Kinetic guns and missiles. Needs Gravity Gun to get anyway though but use her to pound Battleships to death.
The game is not finished yet so that could be. It's just that the readily available screenshots make it look like the VN is the main thing, not that I have anything against that, but if the gameplay is really up to the challenge then this is more than worth trying out.
>>12082786 The tactical part of the game is pretty interesting.
The writing is pretty juvenile and really turns me off to the game, despite promising some harem-esque hijinks. And unless that space pirate loli somehow becomes a romanceable character I probably won't suffer to bother reading it.
Keep your units in a clump to maximise flak/shield coverage and spread your kills out when possible to avoid drawing agro to any single unit. Ideally have Sunrider/Paladin/Blackjack draw agro, since they tank best.
>Paladin's a god damn beast. >Dumping all my funds into my foul mouthed pony tail waifu payed the fuck off with all those bomber fags/elites/Nightmares/maskfags >Claude still kinda terrible except for pushing around your units or pushing badguys into free counter attacks >All those Ava deathflags >They might come true. Fuck you Wishall.
Haven't had a final battle in a turn based game make me sweat like that for a long ass time, and it's only the second act. Also enjoyed some of the choices in this act alot more than the first.
>>12108237 What worked for me was to start huddled up in the centre, take out a pair of cruisers in the first two turns then deactivate one Nightmare. Vanguard if you can, draw one into Phoenix's hit and run range with the grav gun. Then nuke 'em if you got 'em, melee with Phoenix/Blackjack, awaken snipe with Seraphim and generally concentrate fire. Disabling their flak might be a good idea. Focus on the Nightmares, since after they use all their missiles the cruisers are a minimal threat. Go all out to take down two, then deactivate the last one constantly and dispose of it at your leisure.
Something I'm really starting to love about this game is how it knows when you're getting complacent and slaps you down for it. You're always juuust about done with a mission when suddenly BAM, two assault carriers. You think you have a team that can handle anything easily and then they spring back to back missions with nuke equipped enemies and heap some carriers on it to complete the picture.
>>12111106 Assault Carriers during early stages of the Steam release were the fucking worst >TFW Support PACT suits had a game crashing bug attached to one of their hacking moves, and Carriers pretty much prioritized spawning the fuckers
>>12112730 One thing this game also needs is to save some time by having first enemy turn of every battle be replaced with a little sign that reads "And then they spent five minutes all firing their entire missile reserves at you, one at a time".
Every time you think he's pulling a sleazeball manuever you take a moment and realize he's god damn right everytime. I hope he doesn't become a suprise badguy or some shit in the next part, I like him as an old man willing to dirty his hands to protect the Alliance and liberate the Neutral Rim.
>>12113332 That was sort of the point though, wasn't it? That pragmatism can justify a lot of heinous shit? That it would make both factions be utterly ruthless while simultaneously claiming the moral high ground?
I dunno, "I'm going to glass this planet of 18 billion people to deny my enemy the right to exploit the fuck out of it it, because I was going to exploit the fuck out of it and I called dibs" seems a smidge monstrous to me.
So I got to the mission where you are supposed to escort some diplomats home. Why is protecting that ship hard as balls? what the fuck. I don't wanna leave the them to die. But holy fuck this mission is brutal. It's basically telling me to leave them to their fate.
>>12117096 Beeline for the map edge, knocking out big priority targets all while not being too greedy. As long as you can punch a hole however small through PACT lines to get that ship through before the screen fills with shit you're gold.
Or leave them to their fate knowing that their sacrifice puts the Alliance in a better position for the upcoming war. Murderer.
Is Chigara the main girl or something ? She is the one with the most romance subplot focus. Ava completely shot you down. Asaga/Claude/Sola/Isuca almost have no romantic subplot at all outside casual conversation.
When the protagonist was frothing about how the Legion had to be destroyed at any cost did anyone else think: "Hang on a minute, I've seen this movie before back when it was called Star Trek: First Contact"? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=s3RNsZvdYZQ
>>12123813 Chiggers is crushin' 'ard but the best she can do is drink down Shield's tea. Asaga's had her moments but now she's too busy fulfilling her role as a cyber newtype. Claude's just desperate to breed. Sola's too "muh timeline". Kryska and Icari are too busy being tsundere lesbians with each other to notice Shields. Ava's won by default for being a childhood friend and getting Shield's dick wet before anyone else even entered the picture. She's just paying hard to get but now she's playing dead.
Seeing as First Contact itself was a Moby Dick reference, sure. I played that whole section of the game chanting "WHITE WHALE HOLY GRAIL" and ended up dumping a shitton of command points to save Ava anyway because no captain kills off his XO for petty revenge.
