I would like 'real' front mission anime, but it's seems that gritty realistic war is not quite as popular for anime adaptation.

I mean cool mangas like Red Eyes also deserve anime adaptation, it doesn't even have on-page sex for Christ's sake.

It's not that weird really. For starters his off-duty. More importantly, he's been more successful the last few episodes. In the first handful of episodes he's pretty clearly feeling like a loser, so he's a bit angry as a result.

Overall, I'd really starting to appriciate Argevollen. It feels as if the show is getting more comfortable with its own skin.

Hi /m/.
Is Argevollen really "tacticool " and "strategic" as some of my friends are saying?

Also apart from that, what else I am in for?
>>
>>11232132
It has combined arms. Not sure if you can call it tacticool.
>>
>>11232132
No. Probably not. There is some strategy in the show, but its not something they rely on besides "ambush these guys" "destroy these guys", etc.

The mechs are very, very stompy, and look like something out of front mission or mechwarrior. Except for the MC who pretty much has a gundam. The show was some nice conceits like none of the mechs fly, and what makes the mc mecha special is it's fast and agile, and no one is used to that.

But if you are looking for more votoms, or band of bothers with mech, it so isn't that. It's like a more serious Irresponsible captain Tylor, or down periscope. A rag tag group of really, really bad soldiers just try to stay alive in a war that isn't going their side's way.
>>

It'sLOEV.jpg

>>11232132
>>11232187

I would like to add that while the MC does have a Special Mecha, it has yet to do something really, truly extraordinary to make us say "Yeah, that OP". The Argevollen is quick, nimble and they give it a Full Battle Rifle to make better use of it's stats. Yet this is not that out there yet the enemy faction is still quite scared of it and it's leading to an overreaction on their part and that aids to the overall plot quite nicely.
>>
>>11232187
>>11232303
> gottagofast prototype
Also, Argevollen is special because it's using similar control to TSF, meaning there's no lag in the operation.

Aside from that it's seems to be built on much denser material since it's weight are similar to other Krieger despite being CLAMP-tier thin
>>
>>11232303
>over reactions

Now let's be honest here - they actually don't give a flying fuck compared to every other mech show.
>>
>>11232303
>overreaction on their part
They aren't scared of it. They walked all over their enemy and then they go "the hell is this thing intel didn't tell us about this" so they investigate. The person who gives the biggest shit about it at the moment is not-M'Quve.
>>
>>11233263
>>11233275

The Alliance Commanding Officers want it destroyed, the enemy Ace want it for himself, the Intelligence Division AND one of the Alliance's high ranking officers want to capture it too. They, individualy, may not be such an 'over-reaction' but this inner competition could potentially be it.
>>
I wonder when Argevollen will actually start making a difference enough that the brass take notice, anyway?
>>
>>11233332

They certainly aren't focussing any resources on it they should better use somewhere else. Military Intelligence doesn't seem to be doing anything other than collecting intel and the ace isn't going Ahab on this white whale either.

>>11233342
Probably never. At best they're going to upgrade the rest of their fleet with its control system.

>>11232187
> A rag tag group of really, really bad soldiers

They got two aces and a really good CO in their unit, hardly what I'd call ragtag or bad solders. It's also kinda sad that you forgot to mention that the producers seem to be trying to sell this via character interactions because that's where the series really shone once everybody was not preoccupied with running away anymore.

That's very good dude. I didn't notice that they put the weapons down each page. The weapons part is still incomplete as they lack the shoulder cannons, pile-bunker, the rocket-powered sword and the like. Not to mention the other configurations like the radar package and the chicken legs from both sides, but it's good to see that they are improving the site.

So the rifle that they give to the Argevollen is an assault type. Makes sense given the extra grip and size.

So /m/, how do you want Argevollen to develop going forward? Do you want more character building episodes and less combat? More combat and less character stuff? Or about what we have now?

Also, what are the odds we end up with an Argevollen clone on the enemy side? I'm betting 5:2 odds that the "One Man Army" dude ends up in an Argevollen knock-off and he and Tokimune battle it out in the end to as a way to show that Tokimune has become a skilled pilot who doesn't just rely on his mech being OP.

I dont like the solo one man army like a single Gundam gets a credit, it should be the whole unit deserve to win in the battle.

Not just the good guys always win through the battle there should be sometimes loss to make balance and challenge.

Landscapes tend to do that. While it may be true that there is not much movement in them, Argevollen backgrounds and it's events do have a very 'scenic' feel to them. This is something to note as other animes this season IMHO are not at this level.

They often enough go through the trouble of making stuff speak gibberish and hit it with subtitles. A lot rarer in anime an especially in manga.

Only time I saw it well done was in Sound of the Sky.

>Confused enemy soldier wakes up and starts talking in actually correct German
>no Japanese or English subtitles appear, the only on-site character is confused as fuck

And then the other German talking character turns up and interprets, also in correct German. Very fun scene, took me by surprise.

Fuck you. Right now it's either Jamie or the Samonji. I like Samonji and his: "Just do what I say. I'm not even going to bother discussing it." style of command as in this case it actually implies that his pilots are trusting him for a change.

It's a cynical marketting ploy.
The more obvious and over-the-top you make the censoring, the more it screams "BUY THE BLURAYS TO SEE THREE SECONDS OF NIPPLE!"

These topless scenes would be totally forgettable normally. By adding ridiculous glowing white highlights over them, they make it seem way more racy than it actually is and make the viewers wonder about what glorious boobage their eyes are being robbed of.

I'm guessing Tokimune will win but the Argevollen will be damaged, leading the enemy to capture its arm or something. They'll reverse-engineer their own prototype out of it with a different control scheme. Probably one that is much harder on the pilot, like a neural link.

Two mecha shows in one season where the mecha can't fly. I'm being spoiled with all of these legs actually being used. If the CG cancer that is killing mecha means I get mecha that actually run around being big stompy robots, I'm ok with a little 3d.

might be true. I think I like this show cause it like the mech ver of valkyria chronicle. Plus the fight in term of mech vs mech are better than AZ

>>11258453
AZ doesn't really have much conventional mecha action, the point is "enemy mecha has a superpower, inaho figures out how to counter it and comes up with a plan to do so" rather than "run up and outpilot the enemy".
>>
>the fight in term of mech vs mech are better than AZ
Because excluding Argevollen every other unit act like big stompy robot and consistently work that way.

And even Argevollen itself just fast and nimble, nothing out f the realm of the verse.

On top of that, Argevollen mooks are fairly competent.
>>
>>11258459
>>11258459
the fights rely too much on the martian mech being stupid (or fans would say cocky). it is in comparison kinda of static.

this post from /a/ summerize the fights' stupidity

First he had to drop lure the enemy on a bridge, remove his footing to dump him in the water and spot his point and then rush him.
Second time he baited the enemy and exploited some physics to hold him in place for a surprise attack from his blind spot.
Third time he baited the enemy and held him still the same way, then he removed the enemy's footing and dumped him in the water.
Fourth time he just shot her in the ass until a motherfucking battleship saved his ass and the martian decided to charge it head on, without knowing that getting rammed by battleships was her mech's weakness.
>>
Aldnoah.Zero is pretty much just like every other massively over-hyped and over-marketed Aniplex style over substance series. Argevollen may not have the sheer budget and popular otaku fan favorite staffers on board for it but at least it has it's priorities straight and seems to be telling a proper ongoing narrative rather than just pre-packaged 2 part crazy mecha of the week arcs that can make the easy transition to Blu-Ray packages with scraps of a coherent narrative sprinkled in-between to attempt tie it all together. Also the characters actually feel like characters rather than just cool looking one liner slinging automatons. Mind you the characters in Argevollen aren't fantastic by any straight but Aldnoah as a competitor sets the bar so low it easily surpasses it. Personally I'm just waiting for G-Reco and Build Fighters in fall though while I try to make the most of Summers mecha fare.
>>
>>11258483
At this point, the show has gotten to the point that it has now lost the excuse of "yeah but they were incredibly overconfident" so I'm interested to see how it progresses now.

Mostly as a fan I'm just annoyed that there's no place to civilly discuss it and how the default response to any defence of it is "you're a blind fanboy making excuses" and how it's unacceptable to maybe think that the action or the characters aren't shit.

But this is an Argevollen thread so we should probably stop talking about Aldnoah.

So I haven't caught up with the series yet, still on Episode 4, but maybe this will be pink hair's mech after the mid-season upgrade? He was piloting an artillery type during the first three episodes, after all, and his personality seems to be that generic sniper character personality.

Unless he raises a bunch of death flags and dies, that is.

How big is this world even? Is there a world map? Episode 1 implied that Arandas was just a long, mountainous, C-shaped peninsula connected to the mainland, and that it was one of two major powers. But it doesn't seem to be big enough or powerful enough to actually pose a threat to the other side. Are there even navies or air forces in this world? Because it seems like the whole war revolves around movements of ground troops.

Will Silfy get any decent development?

Except captain, but he's the oddball anyway
>>

Man, I know that having lost his whole unit in what was probably an atomic explosion equivalent weights heavily on his mind, but I still hope that he's at least a slight bit more expressive whenever him and his second in command are doing the nasty.

Holy shit. And you guys were whining about Tokimune, at least he was trying to help people.
>>
>>11260488
>whining about Tokimune,
People stop doing that since episode 4
>>
>>11258462

Yeah, they actually act as if they've had military training. Everyone got shit aim though, but I'm guessing that's because of "laggy inputs". Clunky controls and heavy gears probably makes it a pain to aim in close quarters with the old models (much like in mechwarrior, where I can't hit for shit once people are standing next to me!). Hell, Richhofen or whatever his name was seem to have become the top ace simply by strapping fucktons of rockets on his mecha so he can bumrush people while they are still trying to work out their aim.
>>
>>11260143

Well, the captain is a stoic. He got emotions though, he just makes sport of not letting other people know what they are. Personally, I felt didn't have much problem reading him past episode 2 though.
>>
>>11260488
Even if he's personally mad at the ace for continuing the fight and getting his brother killed, he's mature enough to know the rest of the army needs the ace more than he wants revenge for his brother's death.
>>
Why are there so many knife fights in this show
>>
>>11262088

Because the rocket powered clubs are Bloody Hopper exclusive gear?

Honestly, we could ask why the heck mechs even have knifes in the first place when they clearly have pilebunkers in this universe.
>>
>>11262111
You can strap on a knife no problem just about anywhere on those things. In comparison to piledrivers, which need dedicated mechanics in either arm, probably making it more expensive and annoying to maintain.
>>
>>11262088
>>11262139
The pilebunkers look like actual jackhammer, meaning fucking hard to aim and use properly, let alone against aces.
>>
>>11263228
Why are they even on the shields? Are TKs supposed to walk up to bunkers and smash them with their arms or something?

Why aren't more TKs equipped with that jet thruster system used in episode 4?
>>
>>11263557
> Why aren't more TKs equipped with that jet thruster system used in episode 4?
Because it uses up fuel very quickly, I would assume. Remember those auxiliary tanks that are equipped along with the thrusters?

That's a good question but we have yet to see them use it yet so we have to wait.

This unit has them too but it looks more for extra steady weapon rather than melee strike.
>>
>>11263685
Right, but this world apparently only knows land combat. For large-scale battles, you'd think some disposable fuel tanks would be commonplace. Granted, the attack on the "great" Wall was a siege situation, and chasing down the retreating remnants wasn't exactly high priority.

I find it refreshing that mech pilot in Argevollen are treated as grunts like tankers, whereas in gundam and SRW they're treated as junior CO like aircraft pilot (Usually Second Lieutenant or Ensign)
>>
>>11264787
TK pilots do seem to have good opportunities for promotions, though, which is why Tokimune wanted to be one.

Well, Samonji and Tokimune are going to be at odd with each other in the future acording to the OP.

Speaking of the future, What could happen when Tokimune reaches Linkage Depth of 100?
>>
>>11269450
>What could happen when Tokimune reaches Linkage Depth of 100?
Argevollen achieves it's true potential. Having said that, how threatening it is still depends on the pilot's skill. If it wasn't for that, the mech would have been op since episode 1.
>>
>>11269450
>Well, Samonji and Tokimune are going to be at odd with each other in the future acording to the OP.

Naturally. Samonji was his sister's CO when she died and the guy has apparently never been particularily good at communicating his feelings about the incident in the first place.
>>
>>11270641
>his sister's CO
It might be a wild guess, but I think Samonji got demoted due to that incident.

For someone who's supposedly on fast-track promotion, him being a Chu'I (OF-2) feels kinda weird and suspicious.
>>
>>11270660

It was most likely because he would not stand that the lid was kept on the incident and his friend basically prevented worse from coming to worst by having him demoted and sent out into the field with that small independant unit.

It's likely that his second-in-command is another survivor of the incident.
>>
>>11269450
He turns into tang.
>>
>>11270700

I don't think the commander friend actually outranked Samonji. When they interact, the commander seem too respectful towards Samonji for that to be the case, even when considering that they were apparantly classmates.

Most likely the commander had "number two" compared to Samonji until the incident that got Samonji demoted.

Considering Samonji personality and personal belief, he probably got demoted when both of this clashed with the high command. Most likely he attacked the rationale behind their decisions, thus earning their ire and a demotion to "career prospects zero, destination nowhere"

What sub group do you guys use? I've been using CTSS, but they keep doing shit like calling "Kybernes" "Kivernas" and mistranslating terms. Should I just go to Horriblesubs?
>>
>>11275298
HS/CR are pretty much the same. Then again we only say Kybernes is text form a few eps ago (as far as I remember) and they haven't said it since so it might get changed now.
>>
>>11275298
>>11275525
If in universe text is to be believed, Kybernes is the correct one, it's in the first episode on the truck. It also appear on Argevollen's operating system.

Why the sub insist it's Kivernas is weird, but not something I can't Ignore
