I know I'll get a lot of hate for this but I have never watched a sentai series ever since I was 12. But tuning into these v cinema/end of series specials makes me feel like I would have enjoyed it a lot.

I liked it. It's really not hard to make a good V-Cinema Sentai release like these, Shinkenger, Go-Busters, etc. just because you've had enough time away from the characters since the series ended, and they tend to play more with the characters a lot more.

I like it when Sentai has dopey but heartful messages driving the main theme, and this one was great because it tied into the whole 'brave' thing Kyoryuger did: if you're brave, you can take on anything. That felt pahfekt for an after series Kyoryuger special.

I do kinda, sorta wished they kept the color scheme they had going at the beginning, that was part of the reason I was looking forward to this one. A Sentai team of non conventional colors would have been cool, especially because an all cool color team actually looked pretty good together.

Honestly what I was personally hoping for was the mostly-blue Kyoryugers to go all in before swapping. Like using Tobaspino as their main mech and trying to jury rig out some kind of new all-combined attack from old props.

Believe me, it's not that I like TVN. TVN is absolute shit. But it's a brand of shit I can deal with. Groups like O-T and Aesir on the other hand, are infuriating. For example, when I come across puns that are translated in a liberal fashion, it completely takes me out of the show because I know that what was subbed is not what they said. Sure, I can probably gather that it was a pun, but that's beside the point. I don't want to know what O-T thinks is a good pun. I want to know the pun that was said. O-T are not the writers of the show, so I don't really give a fuck what they think is funny.

As autistic as "o-baka-chan-tachi" is, it's not a big deal for me. Like most other people on this board, I know what it means, and it won't impede my understanding of the show. Plus they haven't pulled something like that in years. But of course /m/ latches onto the tiny examples to support their campaign against takenoko.

I don't mind honorifics one way or the other. I don't mind flashy typesetting one way or the other. I don't even mind TVN's notorious little mistakes. Unlike O-T, TVN's mistranslations are mistakes, and not actively changing what is being said. Sure, no translation is 1:1, but O-T/Aesir/whatever goes way too far in the wrong direction for me. Some people may be able to turn of their brains and just eat up the shit made up by these groups, but for whatever reason, I just can't.

And it's not like this is actually a big deal to me. All preferences seem much more passionate on the internet, I just use TVN out of mild dislike for O-T. And the only reason I'm waiting for the TVN release is for the sake of consistency, since I save everything. If O-T was the only one subbing, I'd download it without complaint.

tldr; I don't like TVN, just dislike O-T more.

TV-N's translation actually changes the plot of Blade. They translate "Tachibana was with the Undead" to "Tachibana-san was controlling the Undead-tachi". Cue first time Blade viewers being confused when Garren continues to have no influence over the Undead whatsoever. It's quality is so poor it that it actively misinforms the viewer about what is going on. Then there's a certain bit of dialogue in Faiz they mistanslated that actually spoils the plot. And it's not just a mistake, it's an outright deliberate mistranslation.

Not liking the way Overtime or Aesir do things is fine, but you're acting like TV-N has anywhere near a clue what they're doing. And they don't. Their subs aren't more accurate because they don't translate puns or honoriffics, they're still inaccurate to the point that it ruins the actual show. They actively rewrite the original plot of the series just as much as you accuse Aesir of doing, they just do it out of incompetence rather than a desire to localise.

And that aside their font choices and encodes are still perpetually stuck in the fansub community circa 2004. The hate for them might be blown out of proportion, but it is entirely justified.

I don't recall thinking that Tachibana was ever controlling the undead, presumably because even with that line it soon became clear from his actions that he wasn't. I'm not saying that TV-N don't make mistakes, nor do I even prefer them over a given alternative personally - but acting like the show any understanding of the plot of the show is fucked or irreversibly damaged because of such mistakes is massively under-estimating people's ability to reason simply for the sake of hating more on them. Unless you can prove that they got large portions of the plot wrong, so that a given viewer's understanding of the overall structure of the plot is entirely wrong - then not really, no. They might get specific lines wrong, cause some confusion which the show quickly corrects through context etc. but I don't think they've ever fucked up so badly that people come out of a show with a completely wrong idea of how a characters arc went, or what the overall plot was.

TVN is awful, but there is literally no good reason to refuse watching their subs when it's the only option. These people actually think they're being cool because they deprive themselves of god-tier shows like Dairanger, Gekiranger, and Magiranger. Which only points out specific instances, not the overall understanding of the plot or a given character's arc. Two completely separate things. There isn't a single instance on said blog of either that I know of, but if you want to point me to one I'm happy to be proven wrong.

And no, I don't mean a shot like the above controlling undead thing, I mean a group of shots that show that TV-N's subs indicate Hajime's arc was about becoming more human and accepting this as a good thing, opening up to the people around him while in reality it was actually something different. Getting a line wrong doesn't mean screwing the entire plot or arc up because there's lots of other lines and lots of other cues to a given plot or arc outside spoken word in a visual medium.
