In case you didn't know- KOG has two faces, male on the front, and female in the back of its head. The motif is of a fertility and thus, the unity of male and female. The male phallus, the female vagina, the sperm and ova are all represented over the designs of the KOG.
With regards to why the KOG has two faces, Nagano gives you some not-so-subtle hints in his chronology post-script. I would like to elaborate a little bit further on this and hopefully give some of you a broader vision of this series and perhaps allow you to appreciate it on a different level.
Nagano refers to gold as the eternal color... To understand that, let's take a look at its pilot, Amaterasu No Mikado, and establish some fast facts:
-he is immortal
-his name literally translates as "God Of Light"
-he has "abilities" that he himself in only starting to understand
-while the character is considered male, he is strangely devoid of any strong male characteristics.
-he can take on most any form if he chooses to, but he has three very important incarnations, namely
-Amaterasu (the father)
-Mel Rince (the goddess/holy spirit)
-Ladious Sopp (the son/child)
Essentially, Nagano is drawing parallells with some very precise (and esoteric) information regarding God. Thusly, it's only fitting that God's steed reflect some of these values, and so back to the KOG. It features both male and female sex organs as part of its motif along with a male and female face, which is just a way of saying that this "steed" comprises both the sacred masculine (yang) as well as the sacred feminine (yin.) I would also invite those of you familiar with the Golden Ratio to examine the KOG. Also, while the KOG has an interestingly "Egyptian" feel to it, particularly the earlier versions where the gold was accented with dark blue, it goes further than that. In many ways you can think of the KoG as a sort of Ark of the Covenant on two legs
Those who have "eyes" to see and "ears" to hear will understand.
That's some pretty basic DEEP shit that any 16 year old would think up for this kind of concept
I'd hardly call him a genius
Nagano is about as deep as a kiddy pool.
Nagano is an illuminati puppet.

The age is the one thing in FSS that confuses me to no end. I'm never sure if Nagano is taking how short years in FSS are or if he's using earth years.

? I think one is Tomino, but what's the other one?
>>10998052
Turn A (might as well be Tomino), and SRW
>>10998032
Because of a group of people who are butthurt over things Nagano has said (some of which he may have actually said!), namely not liking Turn A designs, not wanting his stuff to be in SRW, saying how LED Mirage was the most powerful in a tongue in cheek statement. And he gets accusations of driving his franchise into the ground.
So naturally, the threat of Nagano-related threads getting derailed is so high, the fanbase has gotten stupidly defensive. So legitimate criticisms of Nagano are ignored.

I don't know, the thing concerning Nagano and those cancelled toys was not met with any resistance in the previous thread. What seems to be the big issue is that some two people will argue over something small, and then trolls hop in and inflate the argument. That's how that horrific thread with the Super vs. Real debate came to be, anyways.
In any case, Nagano and Katoki seem to be the prime target of /m/'s hate for whatever reason. Both have legitimate reasons for any criticism against them, but most people dislike Nagano because of the popular facts/rumors rather than the more legitimate claims (it's sad how many people still think he was actually serious about that LED Mirage quote).

If you follow the works that Nagano has produced over the course of his career, he drops many a hint as to the evolution of his esoteric understanding. I can tell you this much: he knows a lot more than he lets on and possesses anunderstanding of very occulted concepts that you will not obtain simply by reading books.
There is sooooooo much more to FSS than most people will ever realize. Many many years ago, I think that Nagano was quoted as saying that FSS should be viewed as a fairy tale. I will go one step further and correct what I can only imagine was a translation mistake. FSS should be considered as a very rich and complex allegory. I provided some hints with regards to Amaterasu above, and I encourage people to reflect on the series as a whole if they feel inspired.
I believe the only worthwhile reason to dislike Nagano is the fact that he just never finishes his stories. Like some mangakas, spending more than 20 years with something and not finishing it just leads to frustration on the readers' part.
I always wanted to read FSS, I loved the OVA and I really enjoy Nagano's designs in L-Gaim; but I never even attempeted to start it on the notion that IF he ever finishes it (and someone dares to translate it) I won't remember a thing/won't have an emotional attachment to the story anymore. Same reason why I never went too far with Berserk.
>>10999286
Don't let that hold you back- FSS is not a linear manga like Berserk.
FSS is not a linear story- it was designed specifically so that the author would never have to worry about establishing a beginning or ending. Nagano wrote the entire timeline of the universe way back in his 80s L-Gaim days and then proceeded to slap it onto every volume of FSS thereafter. We know every single important event that took place in the FSS universe from the Super Empire's war with the Dragons and SATAN to the end of the Joker Galaxy in JC 7777. Even with the recent Gothicmade retcon of the mecha, the 30 year-old timeline still remains the same. In that sense, FSS doesn't follow traditional story-telling norms because it lives up to its name-its just a random collection of Stories from a universe with 5 Star systems. It's something that will never really be complete in manga form, because it was purposely designed so that Nagano can draw any portion of it he desired at any time without changing the core concepts of the universe, something that other series like Gundam, Bersek, and Macross have more or less completely violated. It's absolutely ingenious. The journey is what matters, not the destination. There's references all over the manga that reinforce this, like the concept of the Fatima Fates. Even then, FSS is composed of many different arcs and sidestories, and literally has no single protagonist.
A good comparison to FSS isn't a long-time running manga like Berserk, but Universal Century Gundam. Like FSS, UC Gundam has ran for decades now and is composed of multiple different plotlines that take place within that universe. However, its a story designed so that it would be impossible to retcon as a whole like what Unicorn did. People tend to forget that FSS is not merely a manga, its a self-contained experience, much like UC Gundam.
So is this faggot the new Obari? /m/ certainly hasn't bandwagoned this hard for a mecha designer since Obari.
>>10999491
>So is this faggot the new Obari?
No, because Obari's designs are consistently excellent.
Nagano's designs are mostly terrible, though there are a few gems to be found. Most of them come from his work on L-Gaim and Brain Powered, but FSS has included a handful of good designs as well.
>>10999501

Not him, but I think what really makes the CE characters look rather childish is their faces, particularly their huge eyes. That's a flaw with any anime artstyle though. Nagano's faces, other than the older derp examples >>11001938 and >>11001917, tend to look more realistic with the smaller eyes and more noticeable facial features. And quite frankly, what I disliked about Nagano's older character designs wasn't their proportions (which if you look at other 80's character designs, are just as string-bean as anything Nagano ever did), but the fact that their faces were creepy and bug-eyed.
Nagano's newer character designs are retro with a modern twist, like what we see in Unicorn and the Origin. Captain Earth is generic modern anime character designs #99999.

You know what Nagano's designs remind me of? Those Winx Club girls from that old cartoon. Except they look better.
>>11006394
I wonder if anyone is crazy enough to make a kit with all those parts.
>>11006402
There's been at least one scratchbuilt one.
>>11006618
There's one for the red grunt one too.
So what do you think of the GTM designs, Archive?
Thanks a bunch, Archive.
>>11006657
They're cool but I prefer FSS's designs by far.
>>11006678
>all those power cylinders
Why does this remind me so much of a Bionicle?
>>11006897
>>11006897
I dunno.
>>11006943
Did we ever get to see that thing do anything?
Also, this is my favorite GTM so far. The new KOG could become it depending on the lower body. Same with the new LED to a lesser degree.
>>11006965
It was in Volume 9.
>>11006622
Better pic of how the knees work found on some forum. Looks delicate as fuck.
I think pistons have been eliminated in the Gothicmade designs and replaced with these rail joints.
>>11006943
I almost forgot about that one. I still find it funny that this design came out like a decade before Keetongu.
>>11006984
I like how it has stockings.
>>11007010
Wow a yellow robot with a single eye. Bionicle invended FSS.
>>11007097
I know you're trolling, but >>11007010 has a closer resemblance to >>11006943 than pic related.
Also, Bionicle came way after FSS.
>>11002162
>Now, please tell me, what is your example of "good character designs"?
Haruhiko Mikimoto, Yasuomi Umetsu, Hiroyuki Kitazume.
>>11007493
>Yasuomi Umetsu
lolno
And you guys accuse Nagano of making sameface designs.
Umetsu does draw nice tits and ass though. I guess if Nagano slapped that on his women, people would drool all over them too (just like Kimura's).
>>11007493
>Haruhiko Mikimoto, Yasuomi Umetsu, Hiroyuki Kitazume.
Isn't it funny how all three of them are prominent 80's designers, as well as Nagano?
Why are modern character designers so shit?
>>11007719
No, no, no, no, no, you nigger, don't you dare.
Umetsu was god-tier back in the 80s and 90s. I'll give you his modern stuff, though. He's gotten pretty lazy.
>>11007742
>Why are modern character designers so shit?
It's because the only good ones left are the 80's leftovers like Mikimoto or porn artists.
>>10997954
I can't tell if you're trying to be funny or if you really are stupid enough to jumble together an insult of such poor quality
I've said stupid shit like that as a joke but you seem too upset to be joking
>>11007802
Scantily clad, robust girls with a permanent blush are my fetish
Man, I have to hand it over to Nagano for doing character design that hit all the right spots.
Pic related and Christine V are just plain perfect.
>>11007802
Pic unrelated, right?
>>11008534
No, pic related to a character designer who is a porn artist?
>>11008512
His earlier characters might be noodles but horrifying face and I can't get behind a lot of his FSS designs, but the guy can do costume design really well.
>>11007802
>porn artists
I want to see this guy make his own Super Robot manga so bad. He would make much more money off of that than his awkward h-scenes.
>>11008786
Seriously, this guy draws doujins better than most mangaka draw fully-funded manga. This is OPM-tier stuff.
Hopefully he'll be like Boichi and branch out of making doujins later on.
>>11007802
>>11008552
I honestly don't like Hanaharu for characters, but his backgrounds are really nice as well as his coloring.
Poor Maria. The older she gets, the skinnier Fatimas get.
>>11008830
Yeah, I'm a sucker for Hotel.
Thread about mecha talks about character design. :/
>>10997954
>I highly doubt that. All sword hilts look like dicks anyway.

>>11008512
I prefer this gal
>>11008217
>I've said stupid shit like that as a joke but you seem too upset to be joking
I'm sorry OP, did I hurt the babby's feelings?
>>11009712
We had a fucking Mahouka thread a few days ago. This is far more tame by comparison.
>>11010231
Well, it was more like a "Everybody shits on Mahouka" thread. I really wish that we had more of those, really.
You know, the transparent armor and face design are a lot more accurate to the description than the original LED.
It looks more like a dragon now with the horns and the armor is semi-transparent. Still have no idea what the thing on the back of it's head is supposed to be. I like the earrings, though.
>>11011792
It's a veil, anon.
The robot is a bride.
Ama got himself a best man robot leading an army of brides.
So the guy who made the GTM MK II made a MK II in pilot-mode.
I hope he colors them.
>>11011856
Notice the feet.
The last Nagano thread someone posted this fanart of his for Phantasy Star IV. He ended up doing a few designs for PSO2 based on this too.
>>11012057
Fanart for PSO, the greenil emblem. That peice was used on/in the PSO 'Book of Hunters' artbook.
fanart
>>10997763
You all realize this is the same faggot who pretentiously shit up Gunpla threads with how incredible the FSS plamo is, right?
>>11019369
Are you saying the plamo threads are only for Gundam?
>>11019545
he's telling somebody to stop liking things he doesn't like.
You know how it goes.
>>11019369
>This asspained faggot again
haha the butthurt is still STRONGK with this one
>>11020143
I can't find that post on Foolz.
>>11020143
>Shitty turd-brown GM
>"Gritty"
>>11020215
It's on /toy/.
http://archive.heinessen.com/toy/thread/S4123641#p4125107
Anyways, this faggot along with a few others are known for trolling the Gunpla Generals whenever some kit that isn't Gundam shows up.
>>11020215
I think it's from /toy/.
>>11020245
Why do the /toy/ Gunpla Generals have so many more trolls than here on /m/? Every time I go there people are bitching about large image sizes, and a few threads ago there was even a huge argument over "autism bucks".
/m/ may have more snappers, but at least the GG's are clean.
>>11020281
Because underage summerfags.
And guess what underage fags like to play with.
