the ENTIRETY of the Italian film industry exists, in one way or another, due to making shit-terrible b movie knockoffs of American films.

They've been doing this shit since the 60s. Once in a while, you get a Sergio Leone or something, but for the most part you get some of the WORST. MOVIES. EVER.

Never trust a movie from Italy.

It's /m/ supposed, but that aspect doesn't get brought to the forefront very often. It's a slice of life in which some of the characters happen to be robots. The tech mostly comes up in little things like Alpha's weird camera with an eye on it.

I guess the chapter in which Alpha gets struck by lightning and needs extensive repairs was pretty interesting, though she's so advanced it was pretty much a medical procedure.

This mirrors my experience. There's some great music, YATTE YARUZE is satisfying, and there's some solid scenes and animation, but plenty of QUALITY and more than once it left me thinking "well, that was fucking stupid". If you've watched SDF Macross, it's that level of variation in animation quality, though with the average skewed towards the crappy.

Incidentally, there's a bunch of easter eggs which are kind of neat. One of the transformation sequences has a chunk of the BASIC code for Snake, for instance.

I don't know that plot is the right description, but I loved how crazy the...setup maybe, for a lot of shows in that email were. They just mixed a lot of shit together to make something completely stupid sounding, but the basic premise is fantastic a lot of the time.

Like, M.A.S.K. was okay in that it had a team of transforming vehicles driven by a variety of professionals (rock stars, mechanics etc) who all wore helmets that gave them super powers, but then you get shit like Jake and the Wheeled Warriors which is a sci-fi show about people driving various vehicles that could hot swap weapons in battle against plant aliens ruled by a buzzsaw guy to find the lead's father with magic thrown in the mix for good measure.

Today's shows feel rather tame by comparison, with much more straightforward premises. Premise is probably the best word really. I love how balls out crazy a lot of those shows were in premise if not execution, all because the toy companies were being so demanding by my understanding. Bravestarr, Bots Master, Centurions, Visionaries - there were some weird and wild shows in them days.

I think for allot of fans, the source material itself, and getting to see pree OYW UC is so cool that they look past how edgy Char is made out to be in Origin. I mostly like Origin just to see pre OYW UC events animated, and I find the side cast are all pretty good too. Char's story itself is cool as well. He is just not quite what he should have been as a character.

Origin is bad, but 0079 is also bad in a bunch of ways. If your friend thinks that about Char in Origin, he will not like any of the rest of the Gundam shows either.

You probably should have gotten him started on SEED or something, shallow enough to get him interested and then move on to other shows to see if he latches on.

Char is great in 0079, decent in CCA, and horrible in Origins. Pretty bad in Zeta too. The more he's written to be a protagonist or some badass power fantasy the more embarrassing his character is. He's better for his iconic value and as his original revenge story was.

I made the same mistake except I tried to watch Thunderbolt with a friend, who other than liking the animation, said all the characters were paper thin and shitty other than Daryl. Which I agreed with, I don't know why I didn't learn my lesson and turned another friend off now. I need to just start people off with 79.
