I just got done marathoning Zeta Gundam.and to be honest, I'm an edgy millennial that usually cant stand old anime that middle age people consider "classic", but Zeta Gundam won me over. The characters, the story arcs, the mobile suit designs.... I have seen most of the Gundam catalog, and I would rank Zeta at the top.
I can't believe people that would hate on this show, I suspect those people are trolls that never actually watched Zeta and just post hatred about it for attention.
Believe in the sign of Zeta!
>>15188961
Not surprising. Zeta feels very modern.
It was ahead of its time visually: the models haven't aged one bit and there are a lot of amazingly animated moments, so even someone who was spoiled by modern digital animation won't find the visuals cringeworthy.
Some of the characters might feel unlikeable to some people, but they are well done in the sense that they have none of the quirks that defined anime characters from this era(unlike ZZ characters, for example). Basically, even a millenial can relate to them.
The intrigue is also very well paced and doesn't feel slow.
Zeta is great. Tomino was a truly innovative director, until Turn A at least.

>Shitting on Turn A
>>15189052
I mean Turn A is his last good series.
How do you feel about the state of upcoming mecha?
>>15188411
Re:Creator on the top right is going to be just as bad as Aldnoah Zero and jumping on the Isekai bandwagon. It even got the same director, mech designer and Sawano Hiroyuki
>>15188411
Won't really know until I've watched the upcoming mecha.
I am excited for Fafner though, and wonder what THE ABSOLUTE MADMEN could possibly do with Code Geass R3.
>>15188411
>Fafner gets a sequel
Fuck yes!
>FMP gets a sequel
Fuck yes!
Basicly I'm very very happy

Oh Great Dangaioh.
That's a series that makes me feel bummed out because it had the shin mazinger Z effect of getting low ratings and sales which led to it not being finished.
Which blows ass because it was gonna fix the ending to the OVA, but it didn't.
The mech designs and the music were pretty good stuff however. Would love to get the soundtrack

Who's the most flamboyant mecha anime protag?
>>15187780
Loran
>>15189240
That's not flamboyant, just gay. Deliciously gay.
>>15189240
>>15189253
Loran isn't flamboyant, Harry is way more flamboyant in his own show.
What would he pilot?
>piloting the robot
>not being the robot
I feel like he'd use a Zaku with unlimited ammo and a heavy layer of plot armor
>>15187275
Is the Terminator /m/?
Skynet should build more mechs.
>stands alone as its own thing as a sort of reboot of the continuity
>suddenly in the last two volumes reintroduce everything from the original and G in the last three volumes
Was Go doing badly or something?
fuck off mario

In the Getter Robo Saga reprint of the manga, Ishikawa added a "Getter Robo and Me" series of shorts appended to the end of each volume, describing the behind-the-scenes of the Getter series.
By the end of whatever chapter in the 4th volume, the TV series has ended its run and Ishikawa was contemplating ending the serialization (like what happened to the previous getter series). His Chief Editor, knowing that Ishikawa still has material to draw, encouraged him to continue with the serialization. Ishikawa then felt the need to provide closure for the entire Getter series, including Ryoma and the rest of the old crew.
Or so he dramatizes...
Did DP Scanlations ever translate these shorts?
>>15186826
Ishikawa really was a very humble guy who seemed to might have had a low opinion of himself. Stories like this or how he insisted on giving Nagai a creator credit despite just thinking of the most basic part of the Getter concept show he wanted credit where it was due even if it was a bit extreme. This is probably why so much of his stuff kinda ended up unfinished or long gaps between sequels, even if he had more to write he was always like "well, that's the end of my agreed publication. Thank you for hosting me, I did my best to end the series."
Makes you wonder if he knew about possible health complications but never told anyone so as not to worry them.

>Art only a C
I don't think Lauren is familiar with 90s TV anime if Victory is that low. Literal what the shit? And why did she not source that quote?
Stop shilling this garbage site here
>>15186614
Even some of the more mediocre looking TV anime in the 90s had better art. Look at Sailor Moon and G Gundam. Full of stock footage and poor animation, sure, but the art looks considerably better for the most part.
>>15186695
and Victory doesn't how exactly?
Come bitch about Crossbone getting shafted here.

Makes sense to go for a Wing manga in the west.
JUST WILD BEAT
If you were a mobile suit pilot, what role would you play? CQC? Sniper? Artillery? Etc? What would be your gimmick?
Newtype and kill those other roles.
Scream it's a gundam and then explode
I hear that's a field that recruits a lot
Artillery for sure. My ideal would be a Xamel with a team of Zaku I's to cover me in close quarters. Or whatever equivalent to whatever Gundam universe I'm in.
A giant mobile artillery unit with a support team of older models that have been phased out of mass-production but are still serviceable so they're on rear line duty.
So this manga is pretty great... from what I've been able to read. So far it's already much better than the shitty anime adaptation.
However, there are only 7 chapters scanlated. They finished production of the manga 8 years ago, and they still haven't
I have some experience in scanlation, but I'd need a hand starting up again. Mostly in transcripts and tracking down the rest of the chapters. I want to continue work on this. I want to see it completed. I am asking for help in getting this started.
Also, general rideback thread.
Chink places probably have raws, but fuck if I know.
The anime was made after the last Manga volume was finished yet they still fucked up the anime..... how?
This is my wife.

Goodbye, Zyuohgers. Thank you for a great year. This was actually the second Sentai I managed to watch all the way thru, the first one being Gokaiger. Here's to hoping Kyuranger is just as good.
Now to try and watch some of the older series...
What a yifftastic finale!
>>15177789
The blue Kyuranger looks one hundred times more furry-y than anything in Zyuohger though.
I was glad to see Naria back and with a better death, but other than that the ending was alright, but not great.
THIS IS MY FUCKING FAVORITE MECH OF ALL TIME

What about Macross that sets it apart from other mecha franchises?
the mix of music, interstellar sci-fi, and love triangles
>>15175831
>What about Macross that sets it apart from other mecha franchises?
From a general point of view nothing. It's as formulaic as any other long standing mecha franchises.
You can identify in Macross 4 recurrent elements
- the love triangle
- the titular Macross battleship
- the trasformable airplanes
- the music career of one of the protagonists
Rinse and repeat.
>>15175831
It came up with transformations (Zeta or Transformers both copy Macross' ideas).
It is basically "mecha musical" which is pretty unique in the genre.
So, if I understood correctly this is Super Matsumoto Wars, and should be the basis on which the Mahoroba anime movie should have been adapted. I found some summary of the 1st volume (of 2). Does someone know how it ends? Does the D-Guard fight in this story?
>>15173808
This is the D-Guard (Danguard remake, since Matsumoto is using everything he worked on, even Great Yamato appears)
>>15173817
Piloted by Walter Harken, and not by Takuma Ichimonji
>>15173820
The boy is Haruka Kodai (apparently Susumu would have not appeared in the movie, but he is the protagonist of Great Yamato, and is showed in the new Harlock manga and in this GE 999 UJ novel)
What the reason behind the "deconstruction of mecha genre" meme being attached to Neon Genesis Evangelian? I can get when someone says that is anti-thesis of the genre, but what with is decon meme anyway?

FTFY
>>15170284
>what with is decon meme anyway?
It's just a "cromulent" word Evafags like to say about to the show as the God's gift to anime.
>>15170284
It's right up there with "western and eastern mecha design".
A bunch of people with minimal knowledge of a topic trying to one-up each other on the 'mount stupid'.
