None of that is representative of deconstruction though. Evangelion isn't a deconstruction because it never attempts to act like a typical mecha show. If it did, Shinji would have been more than willing to get in the Eva to protect everybody and wouldn't need to be guilted into it. They would have pretended that the robots were robots before revealing what they really were later.

Kamen Rider Gaim was just your typical fun toku at first. School Days was your typical harem anime at first. Evangelion was never a typical super robot show.

It depends on what she enjoyed really. If she liked the romance then Macross, Godanner or something like them would be a good recommendation. If she enjoyed the action, characters, designs or whatever though there's other stuff that would make better recommendations.

Getter Robo, Mazinger, Giant Robo, Votoms, Dougram, Patlabor and less /m/ stuff like LotGH and GitS.

Imo, the main pillars of most mecha shows are the robots (designs, fights, animation in general), romances (usually cheesy but still present almost everywhere and fun) and either policitcs or ideologies depending whether it's more real or super-based.
