To me, Koji and Mazinger represents human harnessing a superhuman, godlike power in order to wage an endless battle against any and all evil.
A human may get tired, weak, or broken, but Mazinger is as invincible as a man's indominable will to justice, and so will never be defeated. So as long as you still have the strength to hold your head up, look you enemy in the eyes and say "Not yet!", Mazinger will fight on. Evil will never win, because if they do, then then fight isn't over yet.
That's pretty badass, I think.

In Toeizinger he's literally perfect and it fucking shows. Any and all weaknesses it has can be overcome by wit and the occasional improvement- with a little ingenuity, Mazinger and Koji conquered land, sea, and air.
Time after time Dr. Hell's beasts would fuck shit up and Mazinger and Koji would be there to dish it out in kind, and fucking dish it out they did. It's the good shit.

I'll just mention two examples from The Terminator series. First his sunglasses. Everyone remembers the cool terminator in shades. But he didn't start off wearing them. He wore them only because he recieved damage to his eye, and he needed to hide it. That it looked cool was a side effect. The "I'll be back". Everyone remembers that phrase. It worked in the original because the Terminator tried to use speech to access Sarah, and when that didn't work, he says "I'll be back". He then rams the car through and starts shooting up the place. It works because he's completely underselling what he's about to do, and the action scene is a total shock to you. Them saying it later in sequels doesn't have the same impact as the original because it lacks that context.
In the original, there is no indication that "Terminators" all look like Arnold. That's a retcon so that they can bring Arnold back for sequels. Terminators originally were infiltration units, disguised as humans, who would gain entry to enemy bases and shoot up the place. They wouldn't be terribly effective if they all looked like Arnold right? Just be on the look out for that one giant bodybuilder guy. From what little we see of other Terminators, they don't look like him.
I mention Terminator, but this kinda thing happens in all series to some degree. Can you think of any other examples?

I think this is why with subsequent rewatches of T1 the more I enjoy it more than T2. As great as based Jim was there seemed to be too many callbacks thrown in for the sake of it.

It's been a while but wasn't the T-800 relatively new? I'd be willing to believe various iterations all looked like different people.
Obviously you're still right in that it's an excuse to use him again, but it can "work", at least.

Can't get a response on /a/, so I think /m/ is more appropriate. For anime produced in SD, 35mm, or 16mm(?) film - basically 480p, is there any series worth seeing from a Blu-Ray release? From what I gathered, R1 releases have the worst encodes/upscaling while your best chance is to wait for a R3/R2 mux.

Any series that wasn't produced directly by the west for Bluray release. Most Gundam releases are fine because all the BDs were handled in Japan other relases like Wolf's Rain are terrible because Funimation made the BDs and Japan didn't.

Analog film doesn't work like that. Nadia was 35mm so it did look better than 16mm Evangelion, but the Eva BDs are still unbeluevably gorgeous.
Your answer is "yes," and it's almost all anime BDs.

So hang on a minute, I'm confused. Ideon was judging both humanity and the Buff Clan, but what the fuck did humans actually do that was so bad? The series frames it pretty plainly that the conflict and its escalation is entirely the Buff Clan's fault, and while the non-Solo humans are dicks they're certainly not as insanely violent as the other side. Not to mention the fact that the initial provocation wasn't from either of them, but Ideon itself.
Was I supposed to disagree with Ideon's judgment? Because it doesn't seem like the correct choice to me.
