that explains why people thought whatever came out of emu was parad.
screenshot shows it clearly, but in motion it's hard to make out the details.
I'm pretty sure this has been posted many times, but whatever.
As someone who wants to start gundam, which is better the tv series or the movie trilogy?
From what I can tell it's like this:
Anime series: Better characterization and world building but has filler and rushed ending
Movies: More serous tone and gets to the point and better animation but the whole thing feels rushed and not as engaging as the show.
What does /m/ think? Whats the better one?
>>15513730
the movie trilogy is the canon
The original series was incomplete in the last episodes due to airing problems
just watch the show first and the movies after that. that's how it came out in japan.
>>15513730
>Movies: more serous tone
The tone is the same, it's just that the movies cut out the more toyetic-looking mobile suits and weapons.
Anyway, I watched the movies first because I didn't want to sit through the whole series and I regretted it. A lot of the "filler" episodes actually serve to flesh out the characters and make you more invested in what happens to them, and it makes the whole thing feel like more of a journey than the movies do. I felt a bit confused and unimpressed when I finished the movies and the series left me with a much better impression of Gundam as a whole.
Also, if you want a more "serious tone" I highly recommend reading the novelization written by Tomino. It goes much more into the characters' inner thoughts and other things that he couldn't put into the show. It's also different enough that you can read it first or watch the anime first and you won't spoil either one. I consider it the pinnacle of Gundam and a great piece of literature as a whole.
I really hope this counts as /m/. I mean it's all just Tokusetsu on a Hollywood Blockbuster budget
Just saw Kong Skull Island for the second time and I gotta say there's a lot more foreshadowing for what's to come than I remember:
>Opening theory that the American and Japanese Soldier's skirmish is foreshadowing for the Kong versus Godzilla movie
>John Goodman's ship was destroyed by Godzilla
>John C Reilly's character says a Tiger would beat a Cub in a fight since a Cub is a baby bear
>John C Reilly's character says that Kong is still growing
>Skull Island comics are set in modern day and have a military group searching for Mutos on the Island
I've also heard a lot about how the next Godzilla movie will be set in the 90's and how it will act as a springboard for the upcoming Kong Crossover movie. Does that mean the '14 movie is being soft rebooted? That one ended with a Mothra easter egg which is kinda irrelevant now since Skull Island's easter egg pretty much confirmed that everyone's going to meet up and duke it out so it's kind of backtracking if like 40 years in the future they have to . And if they make a prequel Godzilla movie there's no real way they can connect it to the '14 movie since that one kept the existence of Godzilla under wraps to the general public. How do you keep a Godzilla encounter in the 90's entirely out of the eye of the public?
one of my main complaints about godzilla 2014 was that Godzilla was a hero, so if they make a movie set in the 90s and he is a threat it might change my opinion a bit. Since Godzilla should always be a threat in his debut movie imo
>I've also heard a lot about how the next Godzilla movie will be set in the 90's and how it will act as a springboard for the upcoming Kong Crossover movie

I don't think you need to make him out as bad guy as much as you do a living disaster. The end of the movie should have Godzilla defeating whatever monster woke him from his sleep but at the cost of every living thing in a hundred mile radius. Sure, Godzilla's fighting for peace but he's also a destructive force of nature which gives a lot of contrast to Kong who is flat out the hero we deserve despite how badly mankind likes to fuck him up
The Stan Bush song "Fight to survive" is rejected for the film Bloodsport.
What 80's mecha series does the song then become a part of and durign what scene?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCYgQR5PEzA
>>15513521
Sorry but there's no alternative universe where stan bush music is rejected
>https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGrKfQ9Ss7w
Though that old theory that Gundam Wing, G Gundam and 8thMS Action themes at the series finale were supposed to be Stan Bush and NRG
>Hot Rod takes up the Matrix of Leadership and learns that he has Fight to Survive
>>15513544
>Sorry but there's no alternative universe where stan bush music is rejected
The Touch was rejected for use in the movie "Cobra". It was supposed to be Marion Cobretti's triumphant theme song, rather than Optimus Prime's.
This is why it has lines like:
> You got the moves, you know the streets
>Break the rules, take the heat
It fits a cowboy cop who does what he wants and knows the streets rather than a Lawful good Paladin like Prime.
Wow IBO was a total disaster. How the hell did Sunrise allow such horrendous visuals, audio, and writing into their flagship franchise?
>>15513195
No idea, someone on management failed to realize what an atrocity to gundam's legacy this turned out to be.
How come so many IBO threads have this Orga Ezelcant image for the OP?
Because you morons will still buy the toys.
>"B-b-but Seed Destiny is totally worse you guys!"
Why does IBO look so much uglier? Hmm?
Gundam is dead.
>>15513095
IBO's models at 10 meters are on the same level of quality as Destiny's closeups.
>>15513110
Not even close, felcher gundam's is worse than Destiny's.
have you ever fell in love with a robot?

If we follow the pattern of Gril -> Bigger Gril -> Gril(male), that makes any 3rd party 2-handle N64 controller a Gril(male)(not really male). So Nadleeh?
What are /m/'s full thoughts on Shin Getter Robo vs Neo Getter Robo?
I think it's the worst getter OVA
>>15512710
I can agree with this but only due to how outstanding Armageddon and New are. Shin Vs Neo is still great but it's easily the weakest Getter OVA.
The biggest criticism I have is that humans look like shit in most of the OVA. I question how the budget went or if Kawagoe intentionally decided to make humans look like shit. For the most part humans can look okay albeit low on detail, but the underground fight scene looks awful and Go looks like a blob.
>>15512706
It's great. Easily the most underrated Getter OVA. Armageddon is great for its insane production values. New is a decent introduction for plebs who can't read. But watching Armageddon for anything other than action is a mistake. New is low budget and all over the place with a story that's too grand for its production.
Shin vs Neo manages to be great in a way that the other two OVAs aren't. Although it's short and its budget isn't as great as Armageddon's, it manages to tell a really solid story with good animation in a short amount of time. As a narrative, it's not as frantic as Armageddon and focuses on more characters than just Ryouma, unlike New. It manages to be light hearted and hotblooded at the same time, unlike Armageddon/New. It also manages to cram a lot of robot action despite it's short episode count.
>no thread for the new Yamato
You guys really hate it much?
No subs
>>15512498
It's a popular modern remake of a very old property, of course /m/ hates it on principle.
>>15512498
>No subs
Subs do exist for the first 2 episodes.
What was their problem
Turbojews
I believe that most of the federation recruited into the AEUG felt like Bright during the 1st Neo Zeon war. Basically they fought this whole time to stop corrupt status quo just for Axis to waltz in and win.
So most of the bad apples just get into power within the AEUG and run it into the ground.
>>15512317
>Madchar
Should've went with that rather than "Quattro Vagina"
"See you in the movie version"
What did he mean by this?

If there is a movie it would be a compilation movie like what every other gundam show got

And someone posted in one of them saying we should just make a Sticky saying what to start with, kinda like the one /fit/ has. I posted in two of them saying I'm all for making a simple recommendation image that lists good starting points, but I want some input from you guys. So far I want to at least cover
>Gundam
>Macross
>Patlabor
>Dynamic Pro stuff
>A general Real Robot section
>A general Super Robot section
>A section for /m/anga
>Maybe Super Sentai and Kamen Rider too
Listing 3-5 good starting points for each series with a short synopsis for each show. For stuff like Macross/Patlabor I'd probably explain the timelines for them and differences between movies and such. If you guys have any suggestions feel free to name them
As for what I was thinking of putting up there, here's what I had so far
Gundam
>Mobile Suit Gundam 0079 (With a blurb explaining the difference between the TV and movie versions)
>G Gundam
>Gundam X
>Gundam 00
>Gundam Build Fighters
Macross
>SDF TV
>DYRL
>Plus
>Frontier
Patlabor
>Just a breakdown of what makes up the Movie/TV Universes
Dynamic Pro
>Getter Robo Armageddon
>Shin Vs Neo
>Koutetsushin Jeeg
>Shin Mazinger
Real Robots
>Votoms
>Layzner
>Nadesico
>Full Metal Panic
>Fafner
Super Robots
>Ideon
>Giant Robo
>Gaogaigar
>The Big O
>Gun X Sword
I realize that it's impossible to match everyone's tastes, but I feel that it's a decent starting point to work off of.
Also gonna post some old charts because sure, why not?
Good old meme charts
Can you name a more hideous visual style and character designs than the anime this guy does?
SEED, Fafner and this, awful.
>>15510612
Iron Blooded Orphans and Serial Experiments Lain both come to mind
>>15510697
None of those look like they're made of detailess plastic
>>15510612
Hiraiface is annoying, but it's certainly not the worst thing in the world. There are other shows that look far uglier, such as
Zambot 3, which occasionally looks like it was drawn via crayon scribbles
Zoids and Cyber Adventure Webdiver, both of which have ridiculous character designs, hideous early CG (particularly with the latter; the former is at least cel-shaded) and practically no fight scene animation at all
Macross Zero, which again uses early CG, but this time in a more realistic show, failing horribly at integrating the two
Transformers G1, which was so full of inconsistent character design and animation errors that one could practically write a book about it
That was such a fucked up way to end a series.
He's gonna be the lightest in a minute
Who's Char- I mean, quattro- laughing at?
>>15510109
everyone thought he was laughing at Amuro but it was actually just friendly bantz.
like, the first thing Quattro said to Amuro was complementing him for ramming the shit out of Asshimar, not muh Lalah.
>>15510109
Vagina chūi baka!!!!!!
>>15510118
B-But that one line specifically said he came here to laugh at him. Why would Tomino make a character say somrthing that wasn't 1000% literal?
