1. (pic related) A fuckin' monstrosity- probably the best account of Bosnia and it's folk: myself being a Bosnian Serb. If you've heard about the war in Bosnia in the '90s, this book might give you some insight as it was mandatory reading for NATO generals that participated in the conflict.
2. Death and the Dervish- by Mesa Selimovic
3. Gorski Vijenac/The Mountain Wreath- by Petar Petrovic Njegos

I expected this.
Yes, he himself insisted on it. He was a Yugoslav diplomat, but he said in numerous occasions that he considers himself a Serb.
(pic related) It's his ID and it's in cyrillic (Croats only write in Latin, as opposed to Serbs that use both scripts).
The ID contains the usual info, but the most important one is the nationality section- it says serbian.
>>
>>7693476
He was born to Croatian parents then when he couldn't break through decided to be a serb and then near the end of his life decided to be a Croat.
But most of his famous works can be said to be written in Serbian. He is really the only 'yugoslav' author.

Vjelikosrbska agresija? Srboslavija?

Other Serb nationalists in Kosovo seemed to have fired up his nationalism (through lies about what was being done to them by the Albanians). Honestly out of the politicians in ex-Yu, Milosevic is really embarrassing, he comes of as an uneducated thug stuck on repeat.

Can you give me any sources for the part about Serbs lying? From what I understand, being a Serb in Kosovo was always quite dangerous. I do know that tensions really flaired up when Milosevic passed that legislation in the early 90s, that put a lot of Albanians out of jobs. I assumed that was one of the major catalysts for an organised, united push for autonomy.

Watch the Death of Yugoslavia BBC doc, link of which is a few posts above. A Serb nationalist leader from Kosovo tells quite openly what they did, and how they "tricked" Milosevic.
>>
>>7696414
Balkans get no credit for protecting Europe from the Ottomans and even less empathy for being under them for 400+ years. That's why the Balkan spirit is constantly rebellious.
>>
>>7697761
What started out as "Fuck you (Ottoman) oppressor!" became a general distrust of anyone not within the clan. Other nations in Europe were free to move towards unity over those 400 years they were not occupied, where the Balkan nations either abandoned their heritage and became Muslim or resisted and stayed in splintered cells of tribalism and general distrust. That's why Tito's call to brotherhood was so great, it was attempting to undo all these years in one emergency package. The idiots like Milosovic who really was just a figure head of deeper village idiocy.
>>
>>7696429
Everyone was Sebian enemy because you went mental as a nation and were overtaken by "Greater Serbia" mentality. It says something about you when your 2nd closest traditional ALLY (by power, after Russia) has enough of your shit.

>Everyone was Sebian enemy because you went mental as a nation and were overtaken by "Greater Serbia" mentality

No, it's the same thing Joyce tried saying about Ireland -- the complexes of a small, irrelevant nation.

Balkan is, well, Balkanised, and ever tiny shithole wants to be something more than that, which is, of course, not gonna happen.

Thinking that everyone is against you makes you feel important; but in actuality, no one gives a fuck.

Not at all, the nationalists clearly do, and to them it's pointed out what they're doing. With other Serbs, and there's a few here, we can talk about unity and our common, shared ground. It's not that difficult to understand, if I'm against the Nazis doesn't mean I'm against the Germans. Basics.
>>
>>7699906
Thanks for callin' me a retard.
Besnilo (Rabies) is a better example for foreigners.
Nice choice.
>>
>>7700458
That's exactly what I was saying. The nationalist Serbs, who were in power and set the course of the whole nation, thought that everyone was their enemy and after them - and by that made a kind of a self fulfilling prophecy.
>>
>>7701070
>nationalist Serbs
They were in power when? Serbian nationalism ceased to exist when Karadžić decided to write in folk Štokavian instead of proper Slavoserbian.

To foreigners and others:

I would definitely reccommend Crnjanski but I have no idea how well he's translated into English. His biographical prose is on par with, say, Hemingway's A Moveable Feast, especially Embahade (a memoir about diplomatic service in thirties's Berlin).
