Nice contratian edgy attitude! Youre so cy nical and ironic XD
>>
>>7689622

Please let us know OP how it is, in particular how the (I'm assuming) new Intro is and whatever else it might have added.
>>
>>7689655
you can read a part of the introduction on some shitty website and it's hilariously retarded (and, unsurprisingly, a gushing fanboy wankfest).

My friend works at a bookshop and sent me this image; I don't have a copy yet
>>

pretty shit cover, should have gotten the one with the clouds
>>
just reminds me of office space desu

for someone who hasn't read wallace, are there any similarities between the two? like bureaucratic malaise and so on

appropriate

Yeah the book is really enjoyable, you got me
>>
>>7689673
>are there any similarities between the two?

No. This cover has nothing to do with what's written in the book.
>>
>>7689622
So much wasted paper.

This book is an environmental disaster.

At least buy the e-book version if you're going to slog through this POS.
>>
>>7689622
The quote is the most horrendous part of the cover.
>>
at least its better then that shitty white one with the stripes
>>
>>7689654
you can't pretend like that's a good cover

I like seeing new covers to this book even if they aren't always good. I can take a really harsh cynical approach and say it's biting the meem about IJ being a studious effort that increased my sticky note budget 10x (xD) but I like the colors.

My personal fav is the BR edition just cause it looks so cool and the image itself isn't entirely unrelated. It's a bit modernish.

The Pale King is all about that

I like the quote. It's very sincere.

Quick, if i purchase the hardcover version on amazon ($21 I think) will I get the good cover (as in pic related)

>>7689835
You would. I see that one in stores and I'm p sure that's the only US hardcover edition and has always been.

Read his short story The Soul is Not a Smithy, and then listen to the interview about it.

Why do these publishers have no taste? How is this not the winner.

Less that the publishers have no taste, and more the buying public doesn't. The cover is purely marketing.

Where do you live f͏͏a͏͏m?
>>
>>7692725
UK, I looked in all the bookstores in town and there was only this edition.

Also this is the only one they sell on amazon that isn't £20+ and used.
>>
>>7692740
Why don't you buy books from bookdepository? They're pretty cheap, and they're based in the UK so it'll come pretty fast to you (I'd assume).

I live in Australia and it's where I get all my books from instead of spending a fortune at the local bookstore.

Hijacking this thread to ask what the best place to start with DFW is. Brief Interviews? Or should I just jump straight into Infinite Jest?
>>
>>7690419
That looks tacky af.
>>
>>7689622
Terrible blurb quote to be used on the cover
>>
>>7692887
Essays. Either A Supposedly Fun Thing etc. or Consider the Lobster.
>>
Who the fuck is Zadie Smith and what right does she have to praise Wallace's legacy?
>>
>>7693035
Show some respect, she banged him fair and square
>>
>>7692887
Infinite Jest is his most accessible book despite the length and the whole endnotes gimmick. Though if you want to get a feel for what his writing is like before jumping into a 1000 page book, I'd say google some of his essays/articles like "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again" I think the original harper's article version is floating around as a pdf.
>>
>>7693032
Oblivion is the best introduction to him, period.
>>
>>7689622
Danny Forrest Walterson was a meme author, and had no discernible talent. He was shitposting, and is literally genre tier fiction. clearly a juvenile author.
>>
>>7693346
No. Oblivion has some of his most obtuse and ultra-pretentious stuff.
>>
>>7693374
shh, don't mess with the meme thread.

DFW and his other work aside, how is "A Supposedly Fun Thing I'll Never Do Again" on its own?
>>
>>7693460

It's very good. Read the expanded version in the book instead of the Harper's article, if you can:

Yes.
>>

Would pay you to make me one and send it to me tbqhfamilia
>>
>people trying hard to shit on that cover
I mean its not great, but its better than just a picture of a fucking cloud
>>
I think the eye one is the best as far as A E S T H E T I C S go. Though honestly as long as the text itself is all there it doesn't matter much. Someone mentioned that one of them was split into two volumes and I think there's something terribly sad and banal about that.
>>
>>7689622
doesn't make a difference.
>>
>>7689728
seriously that quote fucking blows
