TNR is for shitty bulk publications like newspapers and academic journals. It's a trite and ugly typeface.

Again totally wrong. Helvetica is actually not that legible - there are numerous humanist typefaces that are specifically designed for legibility, like verdana. The stylized helvetica may be better looking though

Helvetica is very legible... but that works for short inscriptions.

It's a sans serif typeface, which means that it's less efficient (character recognition is less easy) than a serif typeface for long texts.

Also I write in Minion Pro. It's beautiful, but so subdued you're never distracter by it.

I like minion pro as well, but it's pretty much in times new roman territory as an easy default to use in InDesign. Nothing wrong with it, but means it gets a stigma.
