>"Damn you damn you damn you." He sucked her nipples till she cried out half in pain and half in pleasure. Her cunt became the world.
that explains the fascination with this author.
i'm glad i fall in the happy medium, i like classic literature, but i don't masturbate while plotting every h in Finnegans Wake, and I don't read genre erotica.
Is this meant to be taken completely seriously in the book? I dont think its wrong to giggle at that, it's fucking hilarious. I think if he meant it to be serious he'd have used more delicate language and tried to capture more feeling.
>"Damn you damn you damn you." He sucked her nipples till she cried out half in pain and half in pleasure. Her cunt became the world. She forgot Moat Cailin and Ramsay Bolton and his little piece of skin, forgot the kingsmoot, forgot her failure, forgot her exile and her enemies and her husband. Only his hands mattered, only his mouth, only his arms around her, his cock inside her. He fucked her till she screamed, and then again until she wept, before he finally spent his seed inside her womb.
pretty sure it's serious.
ITT: Pseuds who don't recognise that this type of novel serves its purpose perfectly. GRRM is not trying to write beautiful prose, he's trying to write an entertaining fantasy novel for the popular audience.
No one is claiming he failed in his goal, but that doesn't mean he's created something of high quality, or that requires much skill to write or understand, or that can both educate and entertain the reader.
I haven't, but you can see from the evidence that many people find his work entertaining. From what I've seen it's neither valuable nor entertaining to me personally, but if his goal is to entertain others, he has succeeded.
At what point are we just going to admit that it's complete folly to describe sex at all?
Every single description of the act of fucking that I've ever read has been the least sexy, least erotic part of the whole business. Quite frankly, sex isn't sexy. Everything surrounding sex is sexy, but sex itself is squishy and clumsy and loud and annoying.
"Her cunt became the world."
- George R.R. Martin
>Wow fucking awful prose! GRRM is such a hack!
"Dead: an old woman's: the grey sunken cunt of the world."
- James Joyce, Ulysses
>10/10 a masterpiece!
You're assuming that describing sex should always be sexy. Just because the characters feel it doesn't mean the reader has to feel the same.
It's the same way that sex shown in porn is often painful and fake. It's meant to turn you on, not to show how the world really is.
>implying this doesn't exactly capture the anguish and desperation of uncontrollable diarrhea
This is stupid.
Fitzgerald is many, many levels above G.R.R.M., whoever the comparison is unfair, i.e., picking one of the best passages in The Great Gatsby and comparing it to a passage where a character is suffering from diarrhea.
It's not like you need to try this hard in order to find instances of bad writing in G.R.R.M.'s books.
