I think there is a real skepticism about it, first existing period, and then being as powerful as some people claim.

Tangentially related: I've had vivid dreams, many lucid, for about the past year or so and with no obvious cause. Is this something to be concerned about, healthwise? I don't have nightmares or anything- my dreams are generally pretty great and I greatly prefer them to my actual life - but I've heard that this could be a sign of bad health.

I don't know what that would be about, who told you, WebMD? It sounds kind of silly to me. Maybe just that you aren't sleeping deeply when you have vivid dreams so if you're having very vivid dreams all night every night you'll probably not getting good sleep. But even then ... I'm sure you'll be fine.

OP, if you can just hold on for about five years, I'm still outlining a novel that deals heavily with phenomenae like lucid dreaming, night terrors, telekinesis, and, to a lesser extent, but still worth mentioning, ASMR.
