What's up with all the has for Atlas Shrugged? I'm planning on reading it sometime soon. Will it turn me into a rich capitalist swine?
Because /lit/ is filled with Marxists and they want their gibsmedats.
They're afraid of the truth of capitalism; it works, and some people are better than others (this hurts their equality feels)
Basically they're like women or children, they don't know better.
Ayn Rand is based and redpill approved
while i'm most likely never reading ayn rand, this type of critique is absolute shite. it really doesn't say anything tangible about the book, and isn't even an inch above a similar juxtapository criticism of christianity and fairy tales
maybe in 2014 lmao
lotta false flagging going on itt either way
I know a looooot of people who call themselves Objectivists; they have all the books, go to all the meetings, "live their principles", etc.
One. ONE. Has a decent living, and that is because of a trust fund.
Most of the rest scrabble to get $30k a year and blame it on 'the moochers'.
As a writer, Ayn Rand was a mediocre novelist.
As a philosopher, she was a mediocre novelist.
The characters are tissue-thin and unrealistic; the dialog is terrible; the pacing is like watching a long-drawn out cricket game with no runs.
The premise is interesting.
There are some good set pieces and the semi-scifi setting is actually interesting.
>Will it turn me into a rich capitalist swine?
if you buy into her ideas through her terrible prose you will become an insufferable bore that posts "reditt" to every post you don't agree with
proving you are an insufferable bore

your talk radio/pol/ diploma is showing
The problem with Ayn Rand's philosophy is that it's dependent on egotistical delusion to exist. For something called 'objectivism' it's about the biggest blatantly false masturbatory fantasy of self-importance.
It really only appeals to the deeply insecure, afraid-of-failure types.
Also she was a bad writer.
As a story about about a kinda-scifi railway it sustains itself ok.
The writing isn't great. Many of the characters are straw-men with bad arguments. The philosophy is just … weak.
It is a very fast, easy read. The main story is 'OK' and will help you keep turning pages. All other aspects are sub-par.
Why has America so warped the definition of liberalism to mean the polar opposite of it's intended meaning? It irks me that those fags have co-opted the word to fit their agenda, and bringing with it the shitty connotation that liberalism is bad. Get your shit together America, the rest of the world uses the word properly
Does anyone else think the chapter in which the train gets destroyed, because everyone keeps passing on the responsibility to the next person, is amazingly well written? I think it was called "The Moratorium on Brains". But I was just in awe when reading that chapter
Only in comparison to the rest of the book. The part about everyone dying for doing something wrong is actually a little terrifying, seeing as everything else in the book is basically an outlet for her views. The main characters lead to a lot of deaths among the general population, among people who weren't really 'bad', so to speak, just by doing what they were doing. It's kinda terrifying that she just sweeps that under the rug.
That being said, if you want to read it, I would recommend reading up on the history of the USSR. I really disliked Atlas Shrugged until I learnt about how crazy shit was back then. Now I just think it's a pretty stupid / overrated book.
both randroids and marxcucks serve the same parasite
Rand's philosophy aside, I hear she is a terrible, terrible writer. I have read only excerpts from Atlas Shrugged, and it may have been cherry-picked by critics, but if passages like those - which can be considered nothing but atrocities to aesthetics - can make it into her magnum opus, it does not bode well for the rest of it.
Literally who gives a fuck about how she writes, you libcuck. The only thing that matters is her philosophy, which you failed to address. Please go back to Reddit, you insufferable tool.
>muh everyone deserves to be equal
>muh rich people bad
>"who gives a fuck about how she writes"
>you're currently on /lit/
you're embarrassing yourself
