I am new to /lit/,
get ready to unsheathe and show me what you got.
Battlestation thread-- bookshelf edition
>all those unbroken spines
>fucking confederate flag
>a fucking hookah
>pink floyd poster, that ONE poster in particular
shit tier tbqhwymfarn
>If I walked into someone's place and saw this I would instantly snap and kill them, gut their body, and set the house on fire.
If you even tried a move like that on me I would instantaneously draw my hanzo hattori katana and slice your arm off. Afterwards I'd thrust the blade deep into your abdomen and whisper softly in your ear; "see you in hell, kid"
>-pink floyd (the fedora of music)
>Literally knowing nothing about music
Nigga nah, this is just plain retardation.
Pink Floyd is massively overrated and has many shit albums but dude, you have no idea how many obscure garbage-tier prog bands their is out there.
IJ, Ulysses, War and Peace, and Gravity's Rainbow just came in.
Before anyone says that I haven't, I've read everything else on the lower shelf except for Lolita, Dune, and the newly arrived books.
Which books, exactly? Like I said, almost half of them have just come in so I haven't had the chance to read them past the first chapter, and I like to take care of my books, so they're always in pristine condition.
don't call me a pseud, I just don't wreck my paperbacks as much as other people because I care for them and never leave the house with them
>go to tip shop
>look at lit meme lists
>buy 100 books for $50
>take photo to post on lit and start by reading lot49 because you read somewhere its easy to get into Pynchon that way and also its only like 100 pages
>buy the physical copy
Only I do this? I love to have a beautiful library but also love the practicity of the Kindle, specially for finding obscure translations that don't have pretty covers.
Sorry on the hebrew i can make a short list
Heraclitus and Parmrnides and other book on the presocratic (both books in hebrew by shcolnicov), xenophon's socratic diolouge, plato, viko's the new sciences i believe.
On history bruckhardt main writing, huizinga(homo ludens, dawn), josephus' jeeish wars and polibiyus 1-5(only that got translated to hebrew)
On the 4 tile
After bloom leo strauss writings(persecution and collective essays in the purple and yellow)
Spinoza's ethics, hume, and critique of pure reason as well as yrmiahu yovel kant and the restoration/renewel of metaphysics in loose translation
The other hebrew books its translation for the illiad by tchrnichovski in verse
dude what MARS trilogy is there? you can fit way more books on that shelf you have so much extra space without the items
I'm open to suggestions on which I should read first.
Can't go wrong with Kafka.
Nausea is fucking boring and Sartre is the memest of meme authors; backlog that immediately. The others I can't talk about but I guess starting off with those wouldn't be awful either.
maybe it is not him but still,
>tfw there is someone in the world who owns that shelf
It's me alright. The posters are from my high school years, everything else I don't really feel bad owning
Don't you ever get bored of all that SF/F? I like reading genre fiction too but if it was all I read I'd go insane. You'll also never fit in with the kids here unless you buy some Gene Wolfe books. That's a given.
Also is there a picture of like a swim team near the edge of your monitor?
Can't say I do really. Space has always been an interesting thing for me, and Sci-fi books are the closest thing i'll get to actually being a cool space guy. I'll have to give Gene Wolfe a go then, thanks for that. Also yea, I swam in high school. Went to sections once, nothing too special
if you don't think 4chan is better than reddit when it comes to literature, why don't you just go there instead?
The novella Silhouette would be a good starting point for Wolfe since it's pretty space-focused. A lot of his stuff is fantasy or horror orientated just so you know. I've heard of another novella of his called Memorare that sounds good but there are no physical copies as of yet so I haven't read it. I swam in highschool for a few years, I was pretty mediocre. Not enough motivation to really practice like I should have.
Same thing happend to me, Junior year I would just not show up half the time, but I was one of the better ones so I didn't get kicked off. Senior year I just quit outright the second week. Beats Volleyball though, quit that third week in freshman year.
/x/ is the board i frequent most, but seeing as the board content is shit forced-memes or junk i've already seen 100+ times I tend to come here or /pol/ more often now.
>inb4 board content was always shit
Never been on /tg/, i rather play vidja games than board games
Well, they matched with the height so there was no where else I could put it.
As for TKAM, I bought it a while back and liked it, and it's hardcover so it'd be a waste to throw it out.
Surely it is racist because it represents a racist government.
Literally it represents people who were categorically and self-described racists who believed in race-based slavery. I may have taken on an American cultural icon has something other then that after 1865, but still that's what it represents.
But since then it has gone on to represent a different America of inclusiveness.
The confederate flag has always represented the confederacy (Or the Army of Northern Virginia if you want to be pedantic)
literally nobody other than white people believes that the modern US is non racist and is about inclusiveness
Ghettos are a thing, economic segregation exists. MLK railed against it but you won't hear any of you guys quoting any of that stuff during black history month
Not even American, anon. I'm Euro though
>economic segregation exists
On the richest nation on Earth. Look at Hispanics, or East Asians, they better themselves in America.
>MLK rallied against it
He did, although he wanted equality of opportunity, not equality of outcome.
>if you're born in a ghetto and raised in a school with hardly any funding you have equality of opportunity
and then people cry racism when poor black kids get ethnic scholarships to higher education
Not enough people paying attention to the actual quality of the shelves.
Too much white fiberboard and MDF trash in here. I mean you might as well just stack up some plywood offcuts and a few cinderblocks, or throw your books in a pile on the floor.
>advocates a system where schools are funded on the local level
>many blacks live in impoverished ethnic ghettos
>therefore black schools get barely any funding
>why are blacks so fucking dumb and uneducated? Fucking niggers hurrr
>>if you're born in a ghetto and raised in a school with hardly any funding you have equality of opportunity
A White Teacher Speaks Out - What is it like to teach black students?
by Christopher Jackson
>white underfunded teacher in school with low quality of education, powerless to combat ghetto culture (a creation of the white (or Jewish depending on who you believe) man)
>epic /pol/ meme images
At least admit you have no interest in equality and just hate blacks anon
>whites/jews created ghetto culture to keep the blacks down
Wow how many victim cards do you have in your deck?
>At least admit you have no interest in equality and just hate blacks anon
I hate perpetual victims who can't accept any form of responsibility. But I'm not even American so your ghetto culture isn't my problem, its yours.
I'm a perfectly responsible biochem undergrad I'll have you know, because I have had the privilege of being raised in a decent middle class community. I'm an alright human being, but if I'd grown up in the ghetto with most of my race I doubt I would have the same prospects I do today.
Yeah being born poor is a thing for all races all over the world, its fucking shit for your prospects.
But not everyone born in the ghetto has a shitty ghetto culture keeping them there. Blaming whitey for all of your problems is part of that shitty self-sabotaging ghetto culture, which you are perpetuating when you come out with bullshit about how whites/kikes invented ghetto culture to keep the blacks down. Because that's some tinfoil-hat-tier bullshit right there.
that's why i post this every thread
I have these but they easily hold more than that. Incidentally my old big shelf literally broke apart even though it was made of hardwood boards with almost the same load. they're only temporary though until I find proper replacements I like.
I've been saying that for 1 1/2 years now
yes they CAN hold more than that, but as you'll see in countless pictures in these threads, that shelves made with fiberboard or MDF bend and look like dogshit over time, especially when overburdened.
>defending shit-tier shelving
>not using solid wood
i just want to spread the love of wood
Maimonides: The guide for the preplexed(Shlomo Pines english translation and Shwartz hebrew translation), milot haigyon(words of logic in loose translation its book on Aristotelian logic)

dis nigguh tryin to make a golem an shit
u goin straight to gehenna goyim
just because normies listen to music without their full attention doesnt mean its a lowly form of art
any retard can look at the words written in Finnegans Wake page by page and not understand anything, that doesnt make it bad art.
I found this an interesting read, if only for the different perspective. It's aggravating to see people failing to respond to any kind of education or good intentions.
I went to a predominantly white school in the South. About 20% of my class were interested in school, either as a means to being able to reach whatever career they wanted to pursue or for the sake of learning itself. Another 30% were kind of where I fell into: the average kids who weren't quite bright enough to really excel or who just never really cared enough to perform higher than the bare minimum out of laziness or lack of interest. The remaining 50% of the class, at least until they slowly began to drop out over time, were made up of a group of students whom I will henceforth refer to as "by gods," after a common interjection among the savages.
I was destined to become white trash as shit, but somewhere along the line, I decided I didn't really want to be that. I hated my heritage and I still do. The by gods embraced this culture. They had no interest in being at school, and they actively hated every minute of it. Our classes were usually diverse enough not to allow one particular group to dominate the population (especially once many of these students began to drop out, get arrested, or start going to trade school [which is probably solely responsible for giving them any sort of guidance or direction to speak of]). However, I once made the mistake of enrolling in Earth Science, which was the easiest science class you could take at my school. And it was easy. We didn't do anything.
Every day I watched as our teacher made desperate attempts at teaching us something about rocks or the weather. The difference between the by gods and the blacks from that article is only in the words that were used to halt the education. I will give the by gods credit. They could be creative; and it was actually entertaining in a way. Upon being introduced to the water cycle, one fellow student remarked, "I thought you called that a jayit-skeee." A brilliant young woman proclaimed with pride, "I loove the smayull uv gaayis," while our teacher attempted to explain that particular state of matter. I was by no means surprised that she enjoyed the smell of gas.
My favorite by god was constantly asking our teacher questions, though they were seldom pertinent to the topic at hand: "Hey Misturr Vick, I'm raisin' squrrils, do you wawna buy one?" "Hey Misturr Vick, how much wood yoo sayull me theyum scales fore?" After a week of begging, he eventually convinced Mr. Vick to let him "go to the bayind room to git him a git-tar," with the stipulation that he must write and perform a song about earth science. The day came and he promised his song. What he did was sit in the back of the class with the guitar and proceed to play the first few notes of every Lynyrd Skynyrd and AC/DC song he could think of. I watched Mr. Vick go to his desk and contemplate what must have been suicide.
I could tell so many dumbass stories about the two semesters I took of that class or the few others I had full of these people. The only ones that stand out in particular to me were when this one guy stuck a piece of metal in an electrical outlet, which shocked the fuck out of him and he woke up laughing his ass off. Another time this same person discovered that our substitute teacher was Jewish and covered the whiteboard in swastikas. She lost her shit and quit on the spot, vowing to never teach at our school again. To be fair, everyone hated her and this guy was viewed as a bit of a hero for this.
And we once had ONE black guy in the entire high school. I remember leaving the lunchroom one day and seeing him running for his life, admittedly faster than I think I've ever seen anyone run. What followed him was a sea of camouflage jackets and shit-stained boots screaming and promising some kind of lynching if they ever caught him.
Nearly all of those guys wound up fucking their lives up beyond recognition, but I'm glad that a few of them have gone on to work in trades or what have you.
If you guys were to construct a bookshelf that would make /lit/ mad, what would you put?
>mix in some entry-level high school classics and you're good to go
> I am new to /lit/
> I am new to reading
> I are read good
purpose of books is not to be some plot addition to movies, but to expand your imagination makings. Movies overall mess up your feeling of reality, because contains acting and and must apply to artificial society standards in order to sell movie, unlike literature. Many of good literature books can't even be converted in worth watch movies.
to many books. I have feeling that this family more wants to collect books than read them. This fashion was popular in soviet union everyone has brought many books but nobody read so much, and in average people read about 10% of what they bought, and a man who take pictures want to show how many books he has probably don't read so much.
