Does /lit/ like Raymond Carver?
He's the only short-story writer I can really relate to and I've been enjoying short stories lately. Joyce's short stories were actually pretty great also. What other short story authors are good?

>does /lit/ like Gordon Lish
Gordon Lish is a pretty cool guy.
Isn't this a guy from an H.P. Lovecraft story?

If you like Carver I'd recommend Breece DJ Pancake and Hemmingway. Alice Munro too, maybe
I think John Updike, read New York Girl and Lunch Hour, sublime.

>he hasn't read Cathedral

>he doesn't know that Lish edited most of cathedral.

I'd also add Dennis Johnson.

Chejov is the best
for some reason I could never relate to his stories, I read a lot of his short stories about childhood and we even had that part of our lives in common, I hate saying this about anyone, but I feel that he tries too hard to be an American classic.

I find Chekov leaves me cold. Same with Dostyvseky. I don't think there bad I just don't give a fuck about russian nihilism or the church's relationship with peasants. Is that so wrong?

I always thought he was ashamed he wasn't European. I don't know, he's sort of blurred in with Rohmer and 70s Woody Allen for me.
>relating to Carver
Get help.

I feel the same way about Chekov, and someone with Dostoevsky. Dostoevsky is still one of my favorite authors but I totally agree to a certain level with those feelings.
