Reading this, is he really this generation's Orwell? I'm half way through and inclined to believe so.
It's amazing that Brand has that surname. Time to adopt Russel Brand as the signifier for lazy champagne-socialism and faux-spirituality which is really nothing but a mask to indulge in even more hedonism. Russell Brand philosophy for affluent, bored millennials.
So is Jones. They're the same "democratic socialist" cancer, just made for different times - shocked moralism on the one hand and informing on CPGB members for the government on the other for Orwell, hollow tumblr identity politics from for Jones.
Agreeing with the majority here. He's researched well, but has only a small idea of where he actually stands politically.
If you're interested, I reviewed it in full on my blogger bit (dot ) ly/1JaoWir
I am giggling like a fucking autist right now what the fuck
to expand on this a bit the one chapter I did read was on media
he didn't mention The Guardian once except to quote one of their columnists
it really is garbage, read some NRx if you really want to know how they get away with it ;)
no it's more that he forwards the idea that it's the evil Daily Mail and Murdoch empire holding the working man down but completely neglects to mention that The Guardian (the 2nd most read online newspaper in the world) might also have some degree of power
basically it's a book in which an Establishment man doesn't realise he's an Establishment man, read Nick Land instead
Given that it tells you exactly where in his book he supposedly said this, anyone can go and take a look for themselves. I believe it's on Google books, you can check both the given page number when you discover that chapter is about something else enyirely you can try and grep for the text itself. Its not there.
Reddit is ruining this board.
Owen Jones is shit. He is cancerous. He has no idea who the working classes are. He grew up in a socialist, metropolitan family. If he came to where I live and spouted his usual drivel, he would be laughed out. And I live in the Humber area.
