Why is this considered a classic? It seemed mediocre to me. Are the other books any better?
The Hobbit is delightful, it's like reading a fairy tale. I wish there were more children's books like this, fables which don't speak down to children or try to shelter them from the danger of the world.
It's a classic of children's literature. You're probably too old and don't have the required sense of childlike wonder to compensate.
The other books were written for adults, so you might enjoy them more, but of course you can only find that out for yourself.

i personally find this comfy as fuck, but it gets too preachy towards the end
