As one of those lefties, a reader of continental phil as opposed to a liberal, I read him for two reasons. Historically he offers a philosophical defense of fascism and genocide (see above). He also offers some of the most stunning critiques of the global capitalist-liberal order that I've read.
As for not pussing out. Yeah, he was their chief lawyer for a while before they turned around and came close to executing him due to inevitable fascist suspicion towards intellectuals. He very nearly got exactly what he deserved. He never pussed out in being an utter monster though, you are correct. But he is that bad. Just look at him.
