Hey /lit/, can you recommend me some books that take place in a communist/socialist society? It doesn't matter if it's portrayed positively or negatively. I'm aware of Bulgakov and plan to read him. Thanks!

oh yea the books that are popular/recommended/known these days will all tend towards the critical perspective. if you want some soviet realism that approaches it from a positive angle try some stuff like:

ostrovsky - how the steel was tempered
gorky - mother

Don't forget Doestoevsky's Demons. Its pre-Bolshevik but deals with the same revolutionary concepts.

If you want communists propaganda, read books which belongs to Socialist realism. But they are all garbage...
