I've rented this book at the local library, i've read like 10 pages, but i've kinda gave up, it seems to be a tipically romantic book where everything surrounds about a traditional love story. Am i wrong?, should i keep reading it or am i wasting my time?, what other japanese books are worth reading(no love stories pls?.

yeah it is just a love story, but i enjoyed it.
i think Hardboiled Wonderland and the End of the World is his best work. it's a cyberpunk/fantasy adventure.
man murakami writes the hell out of a love story, but his love stories aren't that traditional. just give it a chance dude, norwegian wood is damn good
mishima is a good japanese author. ogawa is good too

Why do people always picks up this book as his first Murakami?
It's the one that doesn't have anything to do with any other of his books. OP, if you didn't wanted a love story, what made you choose this book?

You mean the one where the main character is in his thirties, content but bored with his life, drinks whiskey, listens to jazz and gets involved with a mysterious woman?
Sorry, cant think of any other reccomendations like that.
