Freeform recommendation exchange is an interesting idea OP. A lot of the things that have most influenced me came as recommendations during freeform stream-of-consciousness-y conversation with a patrician guy who just leapt from topic to topic.
It's hard to find out you will like some obscure anthropological theory because you also like this one Shakespeare critic, but people with similar minds or affinities can sometimes make leaps like that and go I DUNNO I GUESS MAYBE READ XYZ
