What is a good "attention grabbing" book for a person who hasn't read literature since high school? Tried reading Game of Thrones, but found it to be incredibly boring and gave up about a quarter way through. Person in pic was my favorite author in high school.

This
Thrones might not be great literature, but it's pretty damn fast paced and engaging. I don't know how you found it boring. also Lolita grabbed me and dragged me along pretty well.

You can't go wrong with Stephen King for some quality genre fiction. The Dead Zone is my favorite of his. A lot of his short stories are good too.
Sure is Reddit in here.
/lit/ doesn't read for entertainment
The Road is great, if you haven't read that. Not genre fiction or bullshit like Game of Thrones. The same level of difficulty as Orwell.

I'd recommend his short story (and the album named after it) Everythings Eventual.
