Tim O'brien wrote a good collection of stories. one of them 'how to tell a true war story' is pretty dank, wrote an essay about it last semester at uni

On the war subject, have you read All Quiet on the Western Front? It left a huge impact on me and I highly recommend it and it is quite short:

The Things they Carried and Matterhorn are my favorite.

The Sorrow of War by Bao Ninh is like a more adventurous Vietnamese version of All Quiet on the Western Front. Highly recommended.

Gustsv Hasford's novel The Short Timers, and sequel The Phantom Blooper. Amazinng stuff, very well written, poetic prose. Whiffs of Hemingway and occasionally Pynchon.

I read this a while ago. It was good, but I think it could be for a certain age group and I am not sure if mature adults would like it. Like I said, it was a while ago so I am really not sure.

So from reading the reviews I can definitely say that this is a young adult book. So if you are in that age group then I would recommend it.

Psy-ops, compulsion, redemption, Filipinos, spinster-in-training, strange mid-arc influence of Emil Cioran that generates spook vibes and gives strange sinister overtones to exploration of the Củ Chi tunnels as metaphor.

It's also amazing to see a talented author drop his go-to style and try something totally different. Didn't think going into it that the guy that wrote Jesus' Son would have written something like this.
