Atleast you didn't get Crime and Punishment.

Please be joking.

Already read it

>>7552915
Not joking
>>
>translations

I'd say so.
>>
>>7552919
Never read the Wordsworth so I don't know the problem but the covers look kind of lame so I would not buy. Tess of the D'Ubervilles by Wordsworth had the absolute gayest cover of anything I have ever seen.
>>
All those spines of sexy dudes is gonna make your shelf look like its full of grocery store romance novels

The covers are indeed "kind of lame".

That's not my main worry though, I'm more worried about the translations.
>>
>>7552906
well you got mostly translations so probably. Same with Moby Dick, the notes will likely be shit
Wordsworth probably uses Constance Garrett for russian translations, personally i think she's okay, but lit says she's shit

It's only the most essential language for an English speaker after French, German and maybe Italian.

The Chekhov looks nice though.

"Urban Landscape" by Byllya Ivanovich Mashkov
>>

why does the illustration have to protrude from the border like that goddamn
>>
>>7552927
The Idiot looks like a Russian Catcher in the Rye (which would better fit The Notes From the Underground) and Moby Dick isn't translated.

$ wise you're halfway to a kindle. Could've just got the Project Gutenberg editions
>>
>>7553063
I paid £12 for the lot
>>
>>7552906
Their translations are the cheapest, lowest common denominator.

They use the cheapest material and their covers always look like someone from /b/ threw them together in photoshop for keks.

That said, if you are poor and want to read classics of the english language, there's nothing really wrong with them. I'd avoid the translations though.
>>
>>7553171
Pretty much agree, I actually have several of the woodsworth because not only are they a lot cheaper, the bookstores where I live always have offers on them like 50% off or 3 for 2 and shit. When the price is 1/10 of the other pocket editions and I'm poor, I can live with a couple of bad translations.

Notes from the underground looks like one of those horrible supermarket romans.
>>
>>7552932
They're all translated by Constance Garnett tho
>>
I'm happy to buy a Wordsworth when it's not translated and the cover doesn't look too bad. So far I own Wordsworth editions of Woolf and Hardy and they're fine. The paper and print quality is better than Vintage, the footnotes and introductions are cursory but interesting and academic. Typos are more common than in Penguin, Vintage, Oxford & co., but not pervasive.
>>
>>7552906
a little bit idiot
>>
I have a few, but they are english works, so I'm not worried about the translation.
That said, reading heart of darkness and the two other stories in it was a bit hard since the print was so small it made my eyes hurt.

You didn't fuck up if you did it ironically

you fucked up.
>>
>>7552906
Ugly covers and usually awful translations in the public domain. I guess it's okay if you're on a budget and need a book to annotate/study, and if you don't care about the shitty covers and buy a book originally in English, then I guess it's doing no harm.

I think they've got a decent cover for Dubliners.

Master & the Margarita has to be one of the worst ones I've ever seen though.

Same here, I have Joyce, Hardy, Lewis Carroll, Crowley and Woolf. They are A-okay for casual study.

like what in the 20 pages of the actual 'punishment' at the end? Maybe he started becoming religious but he shut everyone out in prison even his other inmates and definitely the officials (until he got sick). If he got religious it was because of Sonya right before his imprisonment and confession and afterwards in prison, not cause of some dumbass priest.

A better cover would have been Raskolnikov wandering around with an ax or perhaps one of his dreams. If it had to be a damn 2 person cover put Sonya + Raskolnikov, or even Petrovich + Raskolnikov, not some random ass priest which has zero impact on the novel.

These are some of mine. Anyways, I've read plenty of Wordsworths, it can help you develop your taste, especially with English novels.

Firstly, they've changed the Dosto covers. They're all minimalist grey and black pictures now that look like they should be on the cover of Der Prozess.

Secondly, their World Classics editions have pretty decent covers.

Lastly, I like them as far as annotations and contextual notes go. Particularly for cultural or political allusions of the time they're pretty useful.
>>
>>7553870
To be fair a lot of Master and Margarita covers have that ridiculous over the top look to them. Google image search it and you'll see what I mean.
