i was actually deliberating on this earlier, but thinking of aiming for 10 grand

i mean, think about it.

you could potentially just write some half-good meme-based bollocks you steal and mash together from random threads on 4chan, hired a 5$ editor from fiver or upwork or whatever and post it chapter by chapter.

it's fucked up, but if you're in a developing country getting 10 grand a month for other people's bullshit, that's fucking great if you can pull it off.

and that potential backlash if it goes wrong is where i dropped that plan.

Want me to redpill you on this guy? Don't believe liberal lies.
daily reminder that in 'Dialectics of Enlightenment' Adorno and Horkheimer praised jazz as the ultimate form of music and denounced the value of all high modernism and compositions by classical composers, solely to raise the stock of blacks in the US which would enable them to start procreating with white women which would further the 'mass-brownification' (Adorno's term) of the white race

It was when a celebrated historian and art critic, a man of European fame, had announced a lecture in the university hall. I had succeeded in persuading the Steppenwolf to attend it, though at first he had little desire to do so. We went together and sat next to each other. When the lecturer ascended the platform and began his address, many of his listeners, who had expected a prophet, were disappointed by his rather spruce and conceited air. And when he proceeded, by way of introduction, to say a few flattering things to the audience, thanking them for their attendance in such numbers, the Steppenwolf threw me a quick look, a look which criticized both the words and entire personality of the speaker -- an unforgettable and frightful look which spoke volumes! It was a look that did not simply criticize the lecturer, annihilating the celebrated man with its crushing yet delicate irony. That was the least of it. It was more sad than ironical; it was indeed utterly and hopelessly sad; it conveyed a quiet despair, born partly of conviction, partly of a mode of thought which had become habitual with him. This despair of his not only unmasked the conceited lecturer and dismissed with its irony the matter at hand, the expectant attitude of the public, the somewhat presumptuous title under which the lecturer announced -- no, the Steppenwolf's look pierced our whole epoch, its whole overwrought activity, the whole surge and strife, the whole vanity, the whole shallow play of opinionated intellectuality. And alas! The look went still deeper, went far below the faults, defects and hopelessness of our time, our intellect, our culture alone. It went right to the heart of humanity, it bespoke eloquently in a single second the whole despair of a thinker, of one who perhaps knew the full worth and meaning of man's life. It said:
"See what man sloths we are! Look, such is man!"

I didn't know until very recently that this is considered a fraud, but looking back, it doesn't surprise me. I first read it when I was about 10 and I didn't know shit about drugs, I'd only heard about drug addicts doing horrible things on the news so I figured drugs have exclusively bad effects, I basically didn't know they felt good, and I didn't understand at all why people would use them if all they did was to ruin your mental and physical health. Wikipedia says,
>However, some adults who read the book as teens or pre-teens have written that they paid little attention to the anti-drug message and instead related to the diarist's thoughts and emotions,[9][45] or vicariously experienced the thrills of her rebellious behavior.[5][34]
and that's exactly how I felt about this book too. Looking back on it now I see that the anti-drug morale of the book is extremely in your face, it reads like one of those "weed will make you kill your friends" billboards to me now, completely ridiculous, but I obviously didn't know that as a preteen. It changed the way I viewed drugs, it actually got me interested in them, so it basically backfired entirely.

Do you think books like Go Ask Alice or A Million Little Pieces should still be read? Let's say you're against drugs and you want to teach that message to kids, would you employ a book that's been proven untrue to do that?

Who even cares if it's a "lie"? Oprah? A bunch of moms? Jokes on them for being exposed as a bunch of idiots. Just write whatever soppy trash and make yourself look like a tragedy and they'll eat it up. They can't deliberate on a book's or any other work of art's merits with a shred of objectivity. The book should have been panned for being garbage in the first place.

The people preoccupied with authors are ridiculous. The story of the author itself means absolutely nothing in a discussion of a work's aesthetics. There is only the work compared alongside the author's other works. I have zero interest in judging anyone's life.

Why are women so preoccupied with women and minority authors? Simple, because they don't understand art. This was acclaimed in an era when we hadn't quite reached the 'all white men are shitlords' nadir we are at right now. Back then it was enough to simply be pathetic. Now if you're a white male drug addict they probably wouldn't give a rat's ass if you overdosed and died in a ditch. A negress stubs her toe? What a tragedy! Buy the book!

Whenever theres a large blank spot in a book I compulsively fill it with thoughts. They can be related to the literature, or not, but it's proof of my place in time at that particular moment of a book. Books have a way of changing you and making you think in different ways, so keeping note of the exact place you are in that transformation is valuable, and by forcing yourself to do it at any blank spot, keeps the thoughts true by nature of spontaneity.

I bought Henry Kissinger's "World Order" (for uni) at a used books store (not a used bookstore) and its filled with scribbles made by an old lady (judging by her name).

In this commentary, she asks questions to the author ("why would you say this?"), comments on the time of the day of when she was reading ("its not raining today"), what she was doing while reading it (eg. cooking, washing the dishes).

Funny thing (or, perhaps, tragic) is that she got that book as a mother's day gift in 2016 and I bought it last month. She read the whole book (she underlined almost every sentence), she appeared to have liked it very much judging from the comments, and since she received it as a gift from someone she - supposedly - loves (her son) why would she sell it so quickly!?

My assumption? She died and during the inventory they decided to sell it. Perhaps it was her last book, I don't know.

With softcover books I always open the book far too much for far too long. I've noticed while I was locked up, whenever I lent other inmates a brand new book, they would return it with hardly any wear on how the book looks when I leave it closed on its side. But after I finish a softcover book, that shit's always ajar. I mean, I don't know what others do differently. Maybe they just read faster than me so it doesn't mess up the spine? Or maybe I just open the book too far apart? /poor book care.

How do I read faster? I already keep my finger on the line I'm reading, reduce subvocalization and try to keep a steady speed, but I often get lost in the words or read the same words over and over.

Hi, I almost finished pic related and I really enjoy it. I didn't dig the battle descriptions so much, but I loved the fights between Gods and the multiple dilemmas that the characters experience. What is your opinion on it?
