Any good medieval on christian mysticism, I really want to try religious fasting, but without theology I will literally only starve myself without point.

Ive not eaten for 9 days before its really really really great. https://www.thedaobums.com/topic/27001-opening-of-the-third-eye-and-other-byproducts-along-the-way/?page=6

this is a good resource to check out. During the fast it would be helpful to sometimes listen to Hildegard of Bingen's music, esp the song nunc aperiut nobis. I would love to talk more about this with you. Read the gospel of thomas if you havent already

This is a nice idea, I like it

I will prepare myself for religious fasting myself by consuming all my food so the fasting becomes easier because I don't have anything I could eat

>What do I need to read before starting with him?
Only The Bible, most of what has been written by the Fathers of the Church and random saints along the way, the Western philosophical tradition until Hegel and, probably, lewd 19th century Danish magazines.

Or, get a monography on the guy and use it as a guide in your exploration of his writings, eventually researching for yourself the concepts of other philosophers you are unfamiliar with.

You can pick up an old edition of Early American Lit Norton Anthology. Just take a peak at the years to make sure it's the earliest Am lit one. There's some good stuff in there. It'll provide a range of material.

Also, anything by Sherman Alexie, obviously.

Fuck off

or, the historiography of the ways in which humans create meaning. Had a course on the subject and I started reading more about it, definitely a fascinating field of study. Pic related, for example, weaves an interesting narrative about Power, apotropaic/anthropemic cultural devices ("possession" as an isolating concept), what it means for something to be Documented in different cultural environments, etc.

I'm sure I haven't understood all of it, but I'd like to read something different before plunging into it again. Anybody has any rec?

Bumping with a wonderful book by Carlo Ginzburg, an Italian historian of religions; starting from the witches' trial in Italy during the Early Modern Age, he traces back the theme of our relationship with death and the other world through folklore, snippets of mythology and iconographical sources from as far away as China.
I've been trying to spam him on here lately, along with Ernesto De Martino - an Italian anthropologist, for lack of a better word, but in my opinion also one of the greatest existentialist thinkers of the last century. I hope more people get to read them.

Call me a pleb, but I'm about 200 pages in and I have to ask...are the remaining ~600 worth reading?
I'm a big JPB fanboy (call me a pleb again if you wish), and I picked it up after he described it as an exhibition of the ethos which eventually led to the Bolshevik Revolution. But so far it's been almost entirely expository material about minor squabbles amongst Russian high society...
Basically it's been fucking boring so far.
Does it ever actually "pick up"? I'm not asking for car crashes or sword fights or anything, but just some conflict that is actually interesting.

If you're not liking it by that point just stop reading and move on to something else.
>>
Almost every book has moments where things get slow. I remember Raskolnikov lying in bed and people talking around him for 80 pages. But if you did not like it at all, 200 pages in, I doubt that will change, quite the opposite actually.

Was he right? And how does his theory apply to 4chan and the prevalent extremist content of our message?

It doesn't apply to the content of 4chan at all. Really social media is a good way to increase the consumption of electricity e.g. fossil fuels.
>>
>>9623953
aren't we a medium? don't we have a message?

aren't we a particularly distinctive medium from all rest (lack of censorship, anonymity even from one post to the next)? and don't we have a particularly distinctive message?
>>
>>9623978
I think Marshy would judge that the medium in this case would be the smartphone/internet itself as opposed to 4chan in particular.

>>
>>9623776
It's ullshit, per definition a woman is a female human, so they are born. It's like that "I need a REAL MAN to take care of my 3 mandingo kids!". It's pretentious trying to separate males or females into "real" and "unreal", there is nothing to become, you are born this way.
