Hello /lit/. I am a very slow reader, but I would like to improve my reading skills. is there any ways to train my reading speed other than "just read more"?

If you spend much time on the computer try reading e-books
>>

e-books are another story. I read those even slower as my eyes start to hurt pretty easily. I don't even know why this is happening as I spend a lot of time in front of screen

>recommend me some great westerns books, please

So I'm writing a novel about Mars as a new frontier (figure a little bit of Total Recall meets the western genre and a bit of Mad Max). I've read plenty of books in the sci-fi genre... but I need some recommendations for books set in the western genre (although Alaska, old Canada and Australia is also cool for some variety).

Leiji Matsumoto kind of does something similar in his Leijiverse but it's anime from the 80s, no idea if you'd be into that. Lots of space pirates and space cowboys though.

I recommend Warlock and Dark tower.
>>
space cowboys on mars sounds pretty awesome op, you could write a cool story with that

for westerns, mccarthy is god-tier

Not my cup of tea but I'm willing to check it out for inspiration.

Thanks, I came to the conclusion that there are no more frontiers left on earth for brave men when I read old journals of men bored with the modern world at the time and moved out west for adventure, money and crime. Maybe all 3.

This is what I'm reading atm at least.

>But what then is the identity of the self? It seems to depend on the irreversible history of the body, a linkage of causes and effects. But this linkage is pure appearance. The body is constantly being modified so as to form one and the same physiognomy; and it is only when the resources for the body's rejuvenation are impoverished that the person becomes fixed, and its 'character' hardens.

>But the different ages of the body are all so many different states, each giving birth to the next. The body is the same body only insofar as a single self is able to and wills to be merged with it, with all its vicissitudes. The cohesion of the body is that of the self; the body produces this self, and hence its own cohesion. But for itself, this body dies and is reborn numerous times - deaths and rebirths that the self pretends to survive in its illusory cohesion. In reality, the ages of the body are simply the impulsive movements that form and deform it, and finally tend to abandon it. But just as these impulses are resources for the body, they are also threats to its cohesion. The purely functional cohesion of the body, in the service of the self s identity, is in this sense irreversible. The ages of the self are those of the body's cohesion, which means that the more this self begns to age in and with the body, and the more it aspires to cohesion, the more it also seeks to return to
its starting-point - and thus to recapitulate itself.

>The dread of physical dissolution requires a retrospective vision of its own cohesion. Thus, because the self, as a product of the body, attributes this body to itself as its own, and is unable to create another, the self too has its own irreversible history.

reading lacan and starting to understand the issues that people who haven't read stirner confuse him with him. when he says 'egoist', he means the lacanian subject, not the lacanian ego. it has nothing to do with being selfish in the way someone is greedy or unkind or out for themselves. those are all drives of the lacanian ego, adopted to please the other. i'll be here to answer any questions you might have about how to grow up, unspook yourself and begin to live your own life, even if that means a return to tradition.

> Has Internet porn proved de Sade right?

about bourgeois liberalism, yes, certainly

> In his misogyny, Sade perceived that bourgeois enlightenment, carried to its logical conclusions, condemned even the sentimental cult of womanhood and the family, which the bourgeois itself had carried to unprecendented extremes.

> At the same time, he saw that condemnation of “woman-worship” had to go hand in hand with a defense of woman’s sexual rights – their rights to dispose of their own bodies, as feminist would put it today. If the exercise of that right in Sade’s utopia boils down to the duty to become an instrument of someone else’s pleasure, it was not so much because Sade hated women as because he hated humanity. He perceived, more clearly than the feminists, that all freedoms under capitalism come in the end to the same thing, the same universal obligation to enjoy and be enjoyed.

Hmm, no, you misunderstand. I am looking for contemporary secondary literature concerning Plato.

Hey /lit/ haven't read much in a long time and looking to get back into books here. I've been lurking here for a little while and made up a bit of a list of books I think that look interesting and want to check out, so the next step is buying them. However, I've given myself a bit of analysis paralysis in regards to things like hard vs. soft cover, where to buy, different editions, buying collections vs. individual books etc. So I'm wondering, how does /lit/ buy their books? What do you guys look for? Is there some kind of guide for first time book buyers out there? Any help would be appreciated.

Isn't it true that reading on an e-reader reduces retention, or is that just pseudoscience?
