Pic unrelated

I've only read Inferno. As someone who is not religious looking in, it seems to me that Dante does more to discredit Christianity in a few ways.

Specifically with irony surrounding the pilgrim's (Dante the pilgrim) bewilderment towards the bureaucratic nature of the punishments given (at least up to the Malbolge), and the Poet's (meta Dante the poet) casual indifference towards the punishments. This irony is strengthened by the fact that the Virgil will occasionally be confused as to why the pilgrim is so horrorstruck and proceeds to reprimand him for wavering in his faith (a faith that Virgil himself never knew and is forced to behold in death).

This irony is strengthened another level further when you consider the notion that Dante (the poet) was aiming to bring righteousness to the corrupt society he was exiled from, while undermining it with his rhetoric.

Am I reading this wrong?
What was your take away? Im especially interested in your take away if you happen to be religious.
Does the Purgatorio and Paradiso undo or put into context this odd situation?
I hope I am not reading this wrong. Any help is very much appreciated!

So, Pynchon. When are you going to release your work on ancient history, and the future? I notice that your Line series are a compilation of several eras, but two are glaringly absent, something along the lines of ancient greece, and something along the lines of sci-fi future bs. Where is this work? It seems like a natural progression, and I was thinking about it in the shower, so you know it's deep enough to be valid, despite my problems explaining it. Are you too old, or is it just lying in wait? what will be the next manifestation of The Line?

Nothin? I guess he doesn't come here after all.

Pynchon's uncle here, I heard from his sister that he's been using an alias for a few years, not sure what it is, but I think it rhymes with a word for a large, juiceless fruit resembling either a mammary or a mammal (not too sure), anyway he abandoned his kid a few months ago, he told me he was going to write a new book. I don't remember talking to him, actually.

Kinda. The things that are closest on the tree should be much closer. Linguistics doesn't go to logic, we can have logic without linguistics. Higher level math is cognitively entirely separate from logic, especially in the linguistic sense. We do math in numbers, language in words/pictures/shapes but most importantly when picturing and not writing out in semantic concepts.

The neurocognitive definition of semantic memory is very different from the definition of any of its constituent words.

Offhand, I'm a senior in my undergrad who has done 2 years of neuro research with my professors, going to grad school for it. I'm on /lit/ because I like lit. I'll answer what I can about cognition, or point you in the right direction.

Was the Frankfurt School right about the culture industry?

>>10008330
Yes it just exists to promote the interests of the ruling class. The bourgeoisie are the drivers of culture and they are a reactionary bunch. They suppress any deviation from their norms by shame. Every revolutionary idea becomes incorporated into the dominant culture in a dumbed down fashion so as to neutralize it.
>>
>>10008361
Good post.

It would explain why their thought is so derided by the masses, who have been told by every alternative news source that the world is run off the ideas of a small group of dead jews in the interest of taring down western civilization to increase the number of brown babies and sissy boys.
Marxist thought examines the dynamics and structures of real power within capitalist society. The Frankfurt school applied that thought to culture. It's no wonder you can't have an intelligent conversation on the subject or even expect to be taken seriously in a public forum.

it will get better when you have a shitload of money in exchange for all this work you're doing.
you do intend to get money for all this, right? i mean, otherwise, if you're working so hard and you're not going to be able to enjoy your old age with assloads of money, then it's completely fucking pointless.

Hey /lit/
I've been working on a book for almost 11 years. I have a good portion of it completed in paper and been transferring it to PC. When I get done, I'll find an editor and so on. What are some good publishers for a beginner? Got any tips?

If you're curious on my age I'm 25

Basically try getting an agent. Preferably one that publishes some of the books you like.
