Hey, /lit/, what are some of the best Greek mythological stories? So far I've read Oedipus Rex, Antigone, and The Iliad.
batman. hannah montana, bible
>>9630608
For a start, The Odyssey.
Next, all three Hesiod poems.
The Oresteia
Prometheus Bound
Medea
The Persians (maybe read Herodotus beforehand)
The Frogs
>>9630655
Also since you've read Oedipus Rex and Antigone, you may as well read the last of the trilogy.
Don't judge me, I have a fetish.
>>9630554
I'll read you the colour out of space in a Glaswegian accent live over Skype, but only if you're a cute girl.
>>9630589
I'm not a cute girl :(
(pic related)
also funnily enough it was a reading of that story that sent me on my Celtic-voice fetish
>audio book
>irish
absolutely disgusting, kill yourself
is quality in literature relative?
>>9630243
quality is relative
>>9630243
Akiha is objectively sexy!
>>9630243
Akiha is objectivelybest girl, but only because the others are trash.
Does this line match iambic pentameter?
The blades of Earth do sing to me of dreams.
I'm just starting to write poetry (just starting today) and I don't want to take the easy way out and write free verse.
>>9630186
Learning meter is great for free verse writers as well. T. Free Verse writer who does constant metrical exercises.
>The blades of Earth do sing to me of dreams.
your rhythmic hiccup (as I read) is the 'do'
the 'do' occupies this strange space of grammatical inversion that tries to overpower 'sing', but its a bit ambiguous. Try your best to avoid grammatical inversions like that until you can make converstional iambs:
>The blades of grass are singing me to sleep.
keeps the meter and the grammar is much more straightforward. I changed Earth, just cuz.
>>9630205
Alright. Sometimes I have a hard time deciding if a syllable is stressed or unstressed. Any way to fix that?
>>9630220
When I first started learning meter, I exaggerated my readings extremely and tried to listen to which sounded less silly. I also abused dictionary;com's pronounciation thing-y.
The BLADES of EARTH do SING to ME of DREAMS
THE blades OF earth DO sing TO me OF dreams.
I think the 'do' is still technically correct btw, I just feel is makes the rhythm of the line awkward.
motor cycle diaries any good?

>>9630102

>>9630058

I always find mccarthy's books very easy to read.
The lack of commas makes it a joy
Was Don Quixote the Chris-chan of his era?
Almost definately
Probably not
>>9630025
Who is Chris's Sanco? A tulpa of Sonichu?
Any recommended reading prior to tackling War & Peace?
Nope, it's pretty basic just long and tedious
the entirety of the western canon that precedes it, pleb
ITT: good literature feels

>really like a book
>give it one star on goodreads
>finish Infinite Jest

> "English major? Haha, prepare to work on Starbucks! LOL!"

> Got job at a publishing house two months after
> Professional grammar nazi
> Earning good money
> Like my job
Is it good? Thinking about buying it.
I have, a couple of times. Not an avid reader of poetry but I've found it extremely articulate and existential; also, its treatment of "outsidereness" is one of the most touching and poetically rendtions of the theme I've ever read, along with Project X
>>9629679
Thanks! I'm trying to find more contemporary long-form/epic poems, and this looks like it might hit the spot.
I love Autobiography of Red, definitely give it a go. It is very touching, as that other anon said. It's weird, but it's good weird.
whats next for tao Lins career?

I'm expected to give a gift to a close teacher of mine and I've been thinking of giving away a book.
I've asked him and he's revealed that he regulary reads, I'm just wondering on what book should I gift him? It needs to be all of the following:
>Intresting for 'anyone' to pick up
>small chance that he's read it before
He's a teacher? The Consolation of Philosophy.
>>9629533
damn this is the first nice suit I've ever seen him wear
>>9629541
I forgot to add these:
>It needs to be easy to find at my local library
>I need it in 2 days so I can't buy it online
What is the /lit/ way of rating books on goodreads?
>>9629299
Never giving below four or five stars. If it's shit leave it unrated.
Be overly critical to impress your peers
>>9629299
rate everything 1 star even if you liked it
ITT post books that aren't supposed to be instruction manuals
>>9629273
Shit bait, shit thread idea, faggot op, just horrible. 0/10
How long has this constant posting of 1984 threads been going on? I only just finished it yesterday so it can't be of my accord.

>>9629330

>>9629330
Read Yeats instead or something. Any time you spend reading Tao Lin is time you'll never get back, anon. Don't you forget that.
