All ideas about what Society is and how to successfully be part of it rest on the foundation of Self-denial. Catchphrases like "putting yourself out there" almost entail the polar opposite. There is no bigger taboo than relevant information. Information that is in and of itself a potential cause for qualitative shifts in interaction, that is declarative, and does not relay to a common pool of presumed presumptions is actually deemed "antisocial". Even as far as routine goes, communication is only allowed if it is ambiguous. Body language and humor are praised as ideal forms of communication because they permanently give all parties the option to retroactively retract intent, thus making Language itself meaningless.

So the two most touted virtues of Society, connection and communication, are in fact the two things least likely to happen.

Being the exact opposite of what it claims to be is a little too on the nose.

No, that's just liberalism that sprung off from Hobbes who created state, government to deny the nature of men.

Is it necessary to read all the books in chronological order? I'm thinking of skipping to the books I'm particularly interested in.

why
>>
>>9639640
you can but why would you, it's a great poem and one of the remarkeble things about it is the way in which ovid strings them all together. It's not even that long, so you might as well.

Do you guy's know a good book about the r/k selection theory?

How do you write funny things?
Also what books have made you laugh?
The last time I laughed during a book was in Blood Meridian from the juxtaposition of the gang going from killing natives to getting so hammered they party for days then get thrown out

Gravity's rainbow. Does someone know how to sing the banana song?

A confederacy of dunces.

I guess you should be a funny person in order to have that ability.

Christopher Moore - Fool
and David Sedaris. I'm not sorry especially this passage:
>I turn my back for two minutes and there you are with your tongue pressed against that light switch. Maybe they do that where you come from, but here in my classroom we don't leave our seats and lick things whenever we please. That is Miss Chestnut's light switch, and she likes to keep it dry. Would you like me to come over to your house and put my tongue on your light switches? Well, would you?”

>I tried to picture her in action, but my shoe was calling. Take me off, it whispered. Tap my heel against your forehead three times. Do it now, quick, no one will notice.

>“Well?” Miss Chestnut raised her faint, penciled eyebrows. “I'm asking you a question. Would you or would you not want me licking the light switches in your house?”

>I slipped off my shoe, pretending to examine the imprint on the heel.

>“You're going to hit yourself over the head with that shoe, aren't you?”

the last time I tried to read it to someone I couldn't pull it off because I kept fucking losing it.

Then again, what I find funny is usually like this- I imagine how funny a situation would be to be in a room and see it happen and THAT'S what I find funny. I don't know why

Are you a published author?
If yes, how much money did you make from your book?

If you are getting into the literary world for the money, don't.

My book came out month and the sheer amount of backstabbing and selfishness is staggering.

That being said, I am making close to nothing, and will continue to do so unless I sell >1k books. Which will simply never happen, being a poet.

I didn't want to make a thread just for this, but I've looked exhaustively and cannot find what I need.

Does anybody here have an English PDF or EPUB of Hitler: Legend, Myth and Reality by Werner Maser? Or does anybody know where a copy can be found?

Quixote's a tragic figure who willingly chooses to go insane rather than live his banal life and that by willingly embodying virtues that are outdated, if not ever even existing in the first place, he's paradoxically just as, if not more heroic as the legends he hopes to emulate. This makes him more or less the very first existentialist hero.

I'm about 100 pages into this book now and I'm only just finding it within me to enjoy the really long descriptive passages that break up scenes

I had to go through the same thing with the sound and the fury except with the pov style (my first real flow of consciousness novel since a portrait) so I'm not mad

I can't think of a worse book to make into a movie though
