Can we get a thread going where people can give advice on constructing poetry, checking that meter fits, etc.? I myself thought a thread like that could help me, especially one where most people are just trying to look for tips and help out.

Anyway, here is my question: Is this a correct usage of iambic tetrameter?

The daily grind that sears my mind,
Of dreary days of cars and haze.

That is iambis tetrameter.

>advice on constructing poetry
learn everything you can about sonnets,
read sonnets
write sonnets
boom, a simple a powerful construction supplied by its form can allow you extend to more complex forms

I also recommend writing in free verse a little bit in between metrical exercises to remind yourself of the freedoms you have.

This is good advice. If you want to get good, do a very close study of a few poems that you wish to emulate, preferably written with different forms. Memorize them, figure out how they work and what they do, and then write your own poems with the same structures and techniques until you are comfortable.
Which poets have you been reading, OP?

I appreciate this. I have noticed progress in my abilities since I began (about a week ago, I know that's a small amount of time) I've never tried free-verse, but I will use it.

Pic-related is a recent read for me I like, but I tend to be fond of Sir Phillip Sidney.

What do you think about authors like Graham Hancock? I've recently started reading about esotericism, alternative history and the like, and while most of it is quite a stretch, it is still an enjoyable exercise in imagination.

He is irredeemable shit. Book related has a great little article on the Horizon BBC "scandal", which would be a good point to start your research on.

Listen to his podcast on the joe rogan experience. His rebuttals are always prefaced with "yeah but they could have", and most of his arguments on timelines are placed around the inability to carbon date stone monuments, as well as a general belief in the infiltration of conspirators in mainstream archaeology. If you want really interesting fringe archaeology and alternative history, look into the recent findings in ecuadorean DNA regarding Polynesian dna, or Tom Dillehay's work at Monte Verde which kicked the clovis theory right in the nuts.

>It evolved itself (I am severely scientific) out of a chaos of scraps of iron and behold! – it knits. I am horrified at the horrible work and stand appalled. I feel it ought to embroider – but it goes on knitting. You come and say: "this is all right; it's only a question of the right kind of oil. Let us use this – for instance – celestial oil and the machine shall embroider a most beautiful design in purple and gold." Will it? Alas no. You cannot by any special lubrication make embroidery with a knitting machine. And the most withering thought is that the infamous thing has made itself; made itself without thought, without conscience, without foresight, without eyes, without heart. It is a tragic accident – and it has happened. You can't interfere with it. The last drop of bitterness is in the suspicion that you can't even smash it. In virtue of that truth one and immortal which lurks in the force that made it spring into existence it is what it is – and it is indestructible!
>It knits us in and it knits us out. It has knitted time space, pain, death, corruption, despair and all the illusions – and nothing matters.

>Aesthetics takes the work of art as an object, the object of aisthesis, of sensuous apprehension in the wide sense. Today we call this apprehension experience. The way in which man experiences art is taken to provide information as to its essence. Experience is the source that is the standard not only for art appreciation and enjoyment but also for artistic creation. Yet perhaps experience is the element in which art dies. The dying occurs so slowly that is takes a few centuries.

What did he mean by this?

>>
That if the creation of art stems from the experience of art, and its essence(s), then there is a limited number of essences as there is a limited number of experiences.
>>
>>9656525
Art as aesthetics is leveled into a present at hand thing to be experienced as an object. This is in stark contrast to art as what it really is according to Heidegger, pure disclosedness of Being constantly held open in illuminated unconcealment, what the Greeks grasped at. The death then lies in the falling away of the possibility of the art as truth (aletheia) reciprocal to the rise of art as Thing Experienced.

Hi there /lit/ could you suggest me some of your favorite sexually dirty/funny pieces of literature?

Whats some good /lit/ to read out loud with my gf? We're almost finished with Fahrenheit 451 and it has been a great experience. I've been trying to get her into literature for a while now.

So please suggest some entry-level novels for us to read to each other. She's into scifi and horror and used to read when she was younger i.e. Stephen King.
