What would you say about this book?

How's the vocabulary? Is it hard? For example, 1984 had a relatively easy vocabulary for me, and Oliver Twist had pretty hard, tedious (especially with all the slang and footnotes). If Jane Eyre is somewhere inbetween or easier then I will probably read it.

What books is similar to it in terms of genre and themes it encompasses?

I've heard it's pretty hated here.

If yes, harder than what? (except your dick)

Garviel Loken, a captain of the 63rd,
Was most notably remembered to be a man of his word.

When Istvaan III happened, he could not believe his eyes,
For brother fought brother, under an ash-ridden sky.

But when Loken saw Abbadon, a soldier he called friend,
It had broken his heart, to know that this was the end.

Through wreckage and debris, they had all finally met,
With Tarvitz and Aximand, the original four set.

When Aximand had drawn blade, eyes filled with tears.
Tarvitz had reminded him, to not hold back with fear.

And no matter what happens, no matter the conclusion,
They will fight till the end, with blades sparking in fusion.

But orders were orders, and they had to be done.
For Horus had an agenda, and a war that needed to be won.

With a Heresy so great, so powerful beyond measure.
It had made other legions decide between loyalist or traitor.

As the world collapsed around him, Loken thought of the remembrancers.
However human and fragile, they will bring word to the Emperor.

And although he was beaten, he did what he should.
Loken had stood, when no one else could.

How can people read series, especially ones that are 4+ books long? I have a big enough backlog and want to read as much as possible, without spending 7 books on one story.

Normally people read because they enjoy it, not because they're trying to clear a 'backlog', so the problem doesn't come up. Reading is fun, and it's very weird to turn it into work. That said,

>40k novelisations
Really?
>>
>>9670919
ADB and Dan Abnett are pretty good desu, and it's 30k.

I would consider Kerouac's major novels to be a series.

Recommend me some comfy booktubers. I want to watch someone talking about Proust.

Allow me 30 mins or so while I can video record myself scanning the wiki while giving extempore analysis and revering DFW's perspicacity at having pruned all the frog's drivel, putting out a vastly superior product in a quarter of the pages.

wouldn't you rather watch a solid /lit/ documentary, interview, lecture rather than pretend you have some kind of online friend? (which is basically the function of youtubers)

Pierre BTFOing Chadlokhov and then his wife were probably the best parts of the book

So I started Mr Nice now.

First bit about prison was interesting enough but now it has just been him in school/university. Being high, drunk and naming a lot of different people I'm supposed to know.

I was hoping for more smuggling, dealing with governments, and adventures mixed with fun stories about being high.

So does it get better or am I wasting my time?

How do you get your country to do the objective moral good of privatising the mailing service and killing off all the shitty public employees that make your books arrive 2 months late?
4 posts and 1 images submitted.
>>
In my country public mail is competent and it's the senders fault usually for not having stuff in stock if it takes ages. You should try moving to a first world country.
>>
i cant think of a single public service that has been improved by privatisation.

besides, whats the point of having a local authority if it doesnt manage public services?

Reminds me of a conference I attended where Cambridge University Press had their entire shipment seized by Peruvian customs. They were reduced to handing out photocopied pages of their latest catalog.

Sometimes I read a book and find parts that really affect me. Unfortunately I find my self forgetting the parts a few months after reading. Do any of you write quotes down as you read in order to keep these things fresh?

I've started to. I think I've taken too many knocks to the head over the years because my memory hasgone to complete shit.

I typically highlight or circle passages and notate the page number near the front of the book.

Then sometimes I'll riff off of these ideas in notebook and later move these to OneNote.
