Anon, surely you've read the Book of the Dead? The pyramid texts?
>/lit/'s most popular threads are genre fiction generals.
Wut. The most popular threads are jordan person threads, nick land threads, general philosophy shit, and fascism/communism bait threads.

Wow, people want to discuss books on the book board. Hot take right there.
Read the confession threads. Everyone on here reads genre fiction and manga primarily. They're all just so obsessed with being a patrician they argue on the level of high schoolers in philosophy class and borrow from the middle school next door when they need insults.

The genre fiction of yesterday is the literature of tomorrow.

Hello /lit/.
I am trying to learn to write. The problem is that I never have any ideas, and when I write from nothing the mixture of how shit it is and how little idea I have of where it is going stops me from continuing. I remember when I started getting into lit, I had a ton of ideas, but these days they seem like adolescent stupidity and far too (pseudo)literary to practice with, and I am having no new ideas - is it because I read so much more than I did back then - that my immersion in books prevents me from being able to come up with original ideas?
How do I learn to write? Do you have any practical advice for this? I will accept basic "get your fucking act together" stuff but I would prefer some advice that I could put into actual practice.
write about how you dont have any ideas then. what you write doesnt matter unless you wsnt to write a detective novel to make some money.
>>9704959
I was under the impression that writing a detective novel was good, in that it prevents you from being pretentious and trying to imitate the literary greats.
You could always try writing a short story every day with a set word count that feels comfortable to you. If you are stuck on what you want to write about I would suggest looking into different writing prompts online. With time and practice your writing will improve and your style will take shape. whatever you do don't make writing a chore just have the motivation and drive to write everyday because you actually want to.
>start listening to the audiobook of this
>its 12 hours long
>currently 3 and a half hours in and the election hasnt even happened yet
audiobook cake boys everyone

It's more reminiscent of Bush, really. Also, as much as I like Lewis in general, not his best work.
>>9704919

im just surprised that 3.5 hours and 12 chapters in the election still hasnt happened
its like sinclair, i dont need chapter long descriptions about jessups' fucking dog and furniture.

Don't know what to do with my life. Should I take a few classes in Latin at my university? Anyone have experience doing a classics degree?
>>9704505
Why not just commit yourself to taking the redpill and ranting about women, semites, blacks, and liberals online?
knew someone who did that, teaches Latin at a Catholic school now
not to bad
>>9704513
I don't mind any of those groups :)
What I find interesting about these two authors is that they both held "objective reality" as one of the most important things in society; to them, the oppressive ruling class was focused on the inversion of truth and to get people to deny that reality could be objective. Why were they both so focused on this? And how did it lead them to completely different economic beliefs (rand laissez-faire capitalism, Orwell democratic socialism)?
literally the two specific authors I consider red flags when someone likes them. pseudointellectuals that got way too much attention.
>>9704540
this
>>9704540
People who consider Orwell a pseudo-intellectual objectively deserve to be gassed because his life work revolved around investigating the ways in which cancerous fuckheads like you poison political and intellectual discourse by any means necessary. Orwell, for all of his faults, never passed an opportunity for reflection or self-criticism, which made him one of the most intellectually honest men of the modern era. And while I have little respect for Ayn Rand, I find that she attracts the most sniveling and obnoxious pseudo-intellectuals desperate to signal to the world their conservative or liberal values by praising or condemning her. The critics are the worst offenders of sophistry, since at least the fans have read the book and gleaned something valuable from it—detractors usually resort to quaternary sources.
If anything, these polarizing figures are great for identifying useless faggots like you.

bruh, im just now getting through guyer wood's introduction to the first critique. let me get back to you on this one is like 3 months.

more people need to read Quine, he is the culmination and the summum bonum of the traditions of scientific naturalism and logical empiricism
way more thoughtful and compelling and even writerly than any other so-called analytic philosophers then or since

People don't realize what a good thing this is. The STEM-Humanities divide is just a meme and its destruction is all thanks to Quine.

This. Took one day of laying concrete for me to know that this shit is not for me. I don't mind the work, but the people are insufferable. Motivated me to go to college Now I got a scholarship to go study Spanish literature at uni, then join the military as an officer when I can't find a job.
