Is Moses the greatest hero in all of literature?
>>9717764
Jesus was greater.
>>9717766
That's cheating, he was God
There are a lot that make me reee, but a few of the most prominent are:
>prominent black characters are introduced later on in the story
>pop culture cringe
>le ebin haxor
>terrible understanding and description of firearms
>>9717730
>>terrible understanding and description of firearms
Kys faggot. Everyone can't be an american /k/ fag like you.
>>9717745
Google shit then, Yuro. It pisses me off to no end when clips and magazines are confused, guns are improperly described, etc. It isnt really that hard to create a basic description of a firearm.
>>9717745
Nobody forces you to talk about subjects you aren't familiar with, wannabe trash author.
Have to make a paper about witchcraft. Anyone have any recommendations?
>>9717720
Evola.

>>9717720
Witchcraft for Dummies. I'm not even memeing. If you have to write a paper, a for dummies book is the single best bet you've got.
>have to write a paper on hinduism
>single most complicated religion on the goddamn planet
>say fuck it
>buy hinduism for dummies
>read for two hours
>get an a+
>yfw you realized that nothing will ever change ever

On this our Independence day shall we collate a list of true American philosophies and political treatises for true Americans?
Drumpf
>>9717328
has the man ever written a book that didn't tout his own self important image?
>>9717313
>American philosophies and political treatises for true Americans
>Posts an Englishman
>Posts an Englishmen who the Founding Fathers thought was mad a decided to leave him with Napoleon.
everyone seems to generally accept Hamlet as being a masterpiece, but what did you take away from it? Favorite character? Best scene?
I just finished the play for the first time in a long time and I'd like to talk about it a little bit
>>9717207
A horse! A horse! My kingdom for a horse!
The phrase has many implications:
>no horse should be worth more than a kingdom
>no sane king would toss his kingdom away for a horse
a lesson in hubris maybe
>what did you take away from it?
equal parts everything and nothing at all
>>9717231
that's Richard III
>tfw purged almost all spooks and waste all my time
>tfw haven't purged the spook which makes me read boring old books even though I believe literature should be only for entertainment
>tfw have to read books I find dumb and boring or else people will call me a pleb
>>9716206
maybe take the redpill of hatred of women and minorities?
>>9716206
>entertainment
>not a spook

>>9716206
purging spooks is a spook
Some say LW is "the most important philosopher of the 20th century" but idk if that's just his fanboys speaking
Is there any truth to that claim?
Why is the Tractatus important?
>>9716177
Yes.
Logical Atomism is extremely interesting. Picture theory is autism.
PI is mostly better tho.
No.
>>9716177
>Why is the Tractatus important?
It's not, but peep the first half of Philosophical Investigations.
maybe google "Vienna Modernism" idk fuck it
Whats book can you tell me of that chronicles the Zoroastrianism fall to Islam
>>9716021
I've already ordered "A History of Zoroastrianism, The Early Period" by Mary Boyce but it will take some time to arrive. However, I was hoping for something more tailored to this topic specifically since the other two textbooks in this series are hundreds (?) of dollars.
>>9716021
I would like to do more than read disjointed arrays of Wikipedia articles on the subject however that is all that searching the "Zoroastrian fall to Islam" chances to return.
>>9716021
I know there's always an expert lurking just a stone's throw away. I'm not even asking to be spoon fed, but simply to point me in the right direction. I implore you.
Hey /lit/ I was just wondering what the best edition for the multiple volumes of this book is?
>>9715928
I love my Everyman's edition, but I have nothing to compare it to.
Am I a pleb if I liked this and if not where do I go next with Murakami?
I guess I will read wind/pinball
>>9715765
He's not as good as normies makes it out to be. His stories seem incomplete, his characters are sometimes good, but most times bad and the only ideas that he tries to pass in his books are all about loneliness and when he tries to deviate from that subject and tackle another one, it feels very simplistic.
Try reading Kafka on the Shore and Norwegian Wood, they're the most close his books can get to what I would call good. Don't even bother with Tsukuru Tazaki, 1Q84 and Sputnik Sweetheart.
>>9716246
wait, sputnik sweetheart is good. better than kafka on the shore
Does literature/poetry have the possibility to convey truths that are inexpressible in other mediums (e.g. science, philosophy, other artistic mediums), or is does the value of literature depend solely on its aesthetic qualities? is the knowledge obtained from literature/poetry "the profoundest form of knowledge" as Heidegger and Wittgenstein said, or pseudo philosophy?
Poetry is the highest form language, and through that profundity can be generate, but so can elegant ornaments.
>>9715258
"Beauty is truth, truth beauty," – that is all
Ye know on earth, and all ye need to know.
I think literature is unique in its capacity to convey profound human realities. Take Hamlet. The play is hinged on the distinction between man the animal and man the civilized creature of the court. It's the situation of a pride of lions. When the alpha is killed and replaced the younger cub is threatened with extermination. The females of course are utterly passive and helpless. The younger male must act on his own. Must for conscience sake avenge his father's murder, and kill his own uncle. No scientific treatise (even Frued etc) could ever convey this as potently as Shakespeare did in the form of a play.
>>9714933
yog-sothoth is easily it. God of forbidden knowledge.
>>9714933
Oh look, a bunch of bullshit made up by someone who isn't HPL.
>>9714933
I like Nyarlatothep.
What are some nonfiction books that will make me do things better in real life or think about things in a more effective and creative way? I've been reading Pragmatism by William James and so far it is interesting but I don't know if it will lead me to be any more effective.
>>9714547
>that will make me do things better in real life
>or think about things in a more effective
The first one is hard to do and the second is subjective
Usually these kind of things are covered in self-help books but without any evidence at all that they work
I think Antifragile had some interesting ideas and at least tries to have some basis somewhere
I think learning about psychology can sometimes be helpful, though it can work out badly as well, but I am unsure if that interests you
>>9714547
A lot of good choices over in the autodidact general thread: >>9714228. If you're into William James, then you should check out the complete works of Charles Sanders Peirce. The thing is, reading can only give you the basics to start doing something, provide tips to enhance what you already are doing, or give you the inspiration to come up with your own system. It's up to you to keep a journal, apply yourself in the real world, and record your progress to stay focused.
>>9714568
Antifragile is currently my favorite book. I consider myself somewhat of a lit pleb so I'm happy to see it recommended here.
Crime & Punishment
Grendel
Breakfast of Champions (esp. the closing chapter)
>>9714309
The Tennant by Roland Topor
I'm also looking for non-fiction.
