Ok /lit/ i see you, but give me convincing evidence against free will.

And so we don't have to go through this, here are my definitions.

Free Will: The ability to create your own thoughts without them being necessitated by causal laws, IE what science and philosophy calls determinism. The ability to do otherwise in the exact same situation. I can just as easily choose to make a post about Bottom's Dream as i can choose to continue writing this one, and i can choose and will myself to think these things rather than them being the effect of the Big Bang.

Determinism: The doctrine that everything has a cause that guarantees it to happen. The universe is a game of dominoes.

Will: The conscious and subconscious stream of thoughts at any and all times.

And if you're unaware of the debate or just too cynical to wonder, here are some present-day libertarian defenses that are among the most popular and most stubborn:

Radical Emergence
Panpsychism
Quantum Mechanics/Quantum Mind
Top-Down Causation
Two-Stage Models
Multiverse Theory

You do realize that if free will is as much of an illusion as you guys claim it is then all individuality and 'im better than thou" is thrown out the window right

This is not in your favor
>>
>>9743851
> give me convincing evidence against free will.
That's not how it works bud. You are the one making the positive claim that free will exists, you have to provide evidence.
It's simple: do something right now, go back in time and do something else. If you can't you can't prove free will. If you can't prove it I will not spend effort believing in it.

http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2017/07/11/space-breakthrough-scientists-teleport-photon-from-earth-to-orbit.html

>scientists have successfully teleported a photon from the ground to a satellite in orbit.

>It’s been 20 years since quantum scientists successfully teleported a photon over 10 miles, proving that quantum entanglement — a process that Albert Einstein called “spooky action at a distance” -- was possible.

>The very unnatural phenomenon occurs when two quantum objects, such as photons, share a wave function. Since they come into existence at the exact same time and place, they share the same identity, even when separated. What happens to one happens to the other — wherever it exists.

>teleporting protons from a ground station in Tibet, 2½ miles above sea level, to a satellite orbiting Earth more than 310 miles away.

>It marks the first time an object has been teleported from our planet into space.

What sort of thinker/philosopher predicted this earliest?

What are modern philosophers who incorporate and talk about what quantum physics might mean to humans?

Is quantum physics the biggest meme of the last few years ?
I have read articles about how quantum physics explains everything and can do some crazy shit yet i rarely see anything concrete coming out of it.
>>
>>9744804
Quantum physics supposes that true random is possible, so I don't fully trust anything of the field
>>
>>9744909
Einstein proposed that quantum mechanics was not truly random, and that there were hidden variables involved. He was proven wrong by experiment. Quantum is genuinely random.

Not so much "war" per se but Conflict and Economics, ed. Varoufakis, uses game theory to analyzes situations where two or more parties are willing to risk more resources than they stand to gain by conflict with the other parties through a game theoretic perspective on microeconomics

Can you notice the similarities between the three men in the picture?

Well, I've noticed that they're all witty English writers who were quite plump and very out of shape.

The three of them had a strong passion for smoking, which is most likely the reason for their receding hairline.

They were all charismatic and were good public speakers.

They were involved in the political affairs of their time in one way or the other.

All of them wrote about religion and were praised by their followers for their witticism and ability to eloquently articulate their arguments.

I can go on and on, but there is something more to it as I will explain shortly.

Now can you draw the parallels between these three men and William Shakespeare?

This is where is gets spooky. All of the traits mentioned above can be found in Shakespeare, even the smoking.

But what is the explaination to all of this? I think that it's reasonable to assume that Shakespeare reincarnates himself every once in a while in a man who resembles him from his own country. Notice how all of them admired Shakespeare too.

I know this sounds /x/-tier, but how else can you explain such parallels?

There could be more Shakespeares to come.

But Christopher Hitchens admitted he could never write non-fiction because he was non-creative.

How long does folio society take to process orders, usually? I ordered something on the 7th, about 6 things on the 9th, and one thing on the tenth. Yet it still says it's processing on my account, and I wasn't able to get a hold of any representatives at folio society. Has anyone has experience buying over seas with folio society? I just want to know how long it might take to finally get my order shipped.

Evidently you did not read the entire thing. A snuff film centers around, and in fact the only plot is, the killing of a person/people. Which tells me you didn't read much of this book, or didn't understand much of it.

>They don't understand the plot of naked lunch
It would probably help if you read Junky, Queer, and Yage first, I'm guessing. But if you don't like the style, some people just don't care for the cut-up method, or Burrough's sense of humor. Because the thing is, most of this book is comedy.satire, which, if you have the edition in the OP pic, there should be plenty of material explaining this, both from editors and Burroughs himself. But again, it's not for everyone.
