I realy liked 2666 for its subject matter ,its length(being intriguing for 800 or so pages that is) and prose .What other books would you recomend me besides the rest of Bolano?

He gave three reasons in the post. You are on /lit/, so try to read a bit please.
>>
Damn I was just reading about this book (trying to learn spanish) and I came here to see if it would be mentioned and here's this thread right at the top
>>
>>9755244
Have you read the book? Then you know the subject matter. Ill agree that length is a bad reason, but Op liked it for its length, so there. And what about the prose? That he liked it for fucks sake. Three "actual reasons" he liked, pull your head out your ass for like ten seconds bud.

These Landmark editions are great but goddamn I could get 4-5 paperbacks for the price. (The Landmark Julius Caesar is coming out in a couple of months btw).

Opinions on Baltasar Gracián? I don't see him mentioned much...I got the book based on the praise from Nietzsche and Schopenhauer.

Hey wagecucks and office fags,

What are some techniques you use to avoid being detected while reading at work? My boss would commit murder suicide if she caught me reading on the job, but luckily I hate her, and my career, so the stakes aren't too high.

Metaphor.
The American dream has been smothered with the capitalist's dream and we are run by the world's largest mafia.
Conscious and unconscious metaphor leaks out of the arts head, and the work tries to inform, or warn us as it entertains
>>
>>9756344
Interesting but crime isn't really a metaphor in a society where millions are imprisoned at any given time.

Perhaps they're, you know, entertaining? Perhaps Cops and Robbers will always be entertaining, drugs will always be an escape, crackpots will always be alienating yet familiar? fuck metaphor, why can't we just for once like something for its own sake?

stanley kubrick might be the greatest cinematographer to have ever lived so the source material probably will never live up to his movies.

I've only read clockwork and the shining, though. in clockwork's case the movie sucked less than the book and in the shining's case the movie is a masterpiece whereas the book is a typical shat-out king horror.

Are memes the proverbs of the future? It really makes me think in ways I couldn't have imagined
21 posts and 4 images submitted.
>>
>>9754825
I wouldn't compare memes to proverbs, but I would compare proverbs to memes.
Memes don't really function like proverbs do. They're far less conscious. You can't even say that they convey ideas, since they only really function emotionally. I definitely agree with his historical analysis, but I would add that memes are fundamentally more powerful and influential. Also memes aren't really visual. They're far more reliant on language.
