We all want to be happy yet we don't want to read about happy people. We all want to be happy yet we can't write when we're happy. Why is happiness so boring, why do you have to suffer to write? Has a happy book ever been written?
>inb4 catharsis
>I dreamt, I yearned to be the one to avenge us... yet he battered and broke me just as he did the others. You cannot know the torment I died in. Unless you're the one to finish this, we'll be lost, lost forever to the memory of time.
Is this good prose, /lit/?
Picked this up since it was being shilled hard on McSweeney's
Opinions on the book?
And would you consider it an important language in the literary world?

I'm not a big fan of genre fiction, but I do like theFantasy and Sci-Fi genres, just not in literature. Are there any Fantasy or Sci-Fi novels written as if hey were Lit Fic novels and not genre fiction?

I'm looking for books that deal with Halloween. Books that are on its origins/history, books that have it as a primary setting/have to do majorly with the point of the book. Fiction or non-fiction either one, they don't necessarily have to have horror elements, though I like those as well.
The legend of the sleepy hollow was written before halloween as a concept, but it is pretty much a Halloween story anyways.
It has become THE Halloween short-story

Ill put it on the list, thanks.
Oh also the Halloween tree by Bradbury.
Should one keep up with the news? It seems like it only makes one more miserable if anything
fuck the World. If something realy important happens, you will know.
>US 'news'
>Trump did something and the left got mad
>International 'news'
>Trump did something, the left got mad, and we're still deciding if we should be mad or not
Anything thats not economics and tech is literally 'not news'
just choose one paper/website and read it once a day, should be enough desu. if a piece of information/news didn't come to you naturally, it wasn't worth knowing
How heavily Christianized are the Eddas?
What are some warp zones of intellectualism? What are some things one can simply dismiss and move along to greater things? Or must we all start at first principles aka The Greeks? Life is too short for rabbit holes.

there are no shortcuts

Life is a rabbit hole
Is this prominent undergrad text on ethics a worthy guide to how to live for an otherwise decent non-fedora-wearing-evangelist atheist? Is ethics really that complicated? Does Rachels hold up without going down a rabbit hole?
Not at all. It's not a guide at all. It's a quick introduction to popular philosophers and figures. You're meant to read the essays and make decisions on which ideas hold up. It's commonly used because it creates opportunities for discussion.
Rachels herself does well. I don't remember thinking he was getting off-track or off the rails at any point
Anyone read this?
For AP lit I had to annotate this book in its entirety.
Garbage.
fuk whyt ppl lol

>and b is not c

Is this the extent of Aristotle's magnificent brain of which I have heard so much about?Does anyone here know some online lectures that can help me get through the Organon?

It's only so obvious to you now because he was the first to construct a logical syllogism. Read some commentaries brainlet

Can you recommend any?
> not enough time to read everything in the western canon
> resources like Stanford Encyclopedia of Philosophy exist
> still waste time reading through the long repetitive stretches of 'certainly it must be that way, socrates'
What's your excuse?
I read for aesthetics
What separates my blog posts from most modern "unfettered" literature?
I'm not trying to take anything from modern literature I'd just like to know what makes some elite yet puzzlingly mundane writing iconic?
The author.
>>9979304
Come on ... Its not just brand name. Also this guy had to surface with something relevant.

>What separates my blog posts from most modern "unfettered" literature?
Whether or not a New York firm is willing to publish it. That in turn is determined by whether you are a white male or not (no publishing if the former, unless maybe if you're really really gay)

First time I read that episode, I listened to the dramatized audiobook simultaneously, with all the background noises and such. The moment when Simon Dedalus reaches the climax of the song he sings was orgasmic. It was an amazing experience.
