How do translations of poetry into another language retain the rhyming words?
please respond
>>9797911
they don't,
translators have to take liberties anyway, but you can usually find two rhyming words that will work if you try.

>haven't completed a single piece
should i force myself to finish something even if i'm unhappy with the quality or should i lean into my current writing habits and hope something finally catches?

Is anyone else here so painfully smart that books are irrelevant?
>>9797812
Well books don't make you smarter. That's completely up to your genetic makeup.
Not your personal army, buddy, though this person is particularly smarmy. "10 Point Plan for Fighting Misogyny Among Venture Capitalists." Finally, someone has identified the real enemy of women's rights!

Books don't make you smarter, but they can make you more thoughtfull. To read dry and hard books like, idk, fucking The Capital from Marx, anyone can, being able to reflect upon the info presented, being able to criticize the info presented and being able to reach for other sources of info to better develop the concept and/or better understand it isen't up for book-reading, is for your own will to do so. It's laborious and usualy revolves around a lot of criticism and self-criticism, way harder than just stick to some so called "Thruth" and hold it dogmaticaly and refuse to think of any possibilitie of being it wrong.
Hey /lit/ I'm looking to get better at puns. Which writers are the best?
I can read English, French, and Arabic.
Do you literally mean puns or something more like kennings? If you mean the latter, that's a lot easier because it's represented extremely well in older literature.
>>9797742
I did mean puns, but I'd be interested to see some stuff on kennings as well!
>>9797767
Norse sagas in particular are well-known for their kennings. Most epic poetry, in general, will have them.
I'm less sure on puns, but I'd take a look at Lewis Carroll's stuff, since (whether there are truly very many puns or not) he is extremely inventive with language.

I have interest in poetry, but so far, my trys to find a poet who I enjoy (or in general, think I understand what he is saying) have failed again and again.
I think I enjoyed more the epics (like Orlando Furioso, Paradise Lost and Lusiadas).
The only poet I truly liked and re-read from time to time is Baudelaire's "Flowers of Evil".
I truly wish to find more poets to like, any suggestions?
Ps: I do realy enjoy Edgar Allan Poe, like, a lot, have all his works with exception of his poem's. Should I try those?
>>9797320
If you like Baudelaire then check out Lautreamont's Les Chants De Maldoror and Ligotti's I Have A Special Plan For This Word and his collection Death Poems.
I would also recommend a copy of T.S. Eliot's collected poems, you can't go wrong with Prufrock and The Hollow Men.
If you liked the classics (nice to see someone else here likes Os Lusiadas, that book is a masterpiece) then definetely check out Aniara.
>>9797368
Thanks for the suggestions, I will check it out, anon.
Checkout Fernando Pessoa and i second Les Chants de Maldoror

He is right about rushing an author, its all about content.
The reason he is a hack is because he sold his magnus opus to the Hollywood jew and is letting them write the ending for him.

What're your thoughts? I love Swans so I'm fascinated by it, but it's rather expensive.
How much is it? The only time I've heard it talked about on here was through this chart. I also like Swans but am hesitant to see if Gira's talent in songwriting and lyricism can be translated to prose in case its shit.
>>9797004
Haven't read it but I can't imagine it would meet your expectations. Can't find any .pdfs?? I would like to read it too.
