I have a slightly unorthodox request.
I would like to know which books have a strong emphasis or take place in very cold scenarios. Bonus points for themes like solitude, man vs nature, winter related hardships or even conflicts. Fiction and non-fiction are both welcomed.
The Terror by Dan Simmons is set in a failed expedition to the North Pole. Their boats get trapped in the ice and soon they start running out of food and are forced to abandon them.
It is pretty good, and covers all your points since they are all trapped in a barrren wasteland of snow.

Into the Wild sounds like it's close to what you're asking for. It's non-fiction about a young man who abandoned his possessions and family to wander the wilderness alone. He ends up in Alaska, and I think a significant portion of the book takes place there, but I don't remember how much.

is this book a meme trilogy or is it actually worth the investment in time?
What are some good books on WW2 from the perspective of a German soldier?
Not german soldier, but...
I was thinking about getting "Goebbels: Die Tagebücher". I was wondering before I get a 5 book series and especially since so many editiors censored and cut a lot from it, if anybody here has read some parts at least and could suggest which publisher would be the best.

This was the first (non-ad) result from my latest search result.
I've just found out I've got lung cancer at 46, and am awaiting a due date.
Here's some of what I just read:
"You have learned that you are dying. Terminal illness presents human beings with an exceedingly difficult and contradictory challenge; you are dying, you know you are dying, yet it is your nature to want to live. The thoughts in this brochure are intended to help you deal with this tension and to continue to live even though you are dying."
Anyone have any thoughts on death as I consume a liter of vodka? (mixed with tea and lemon)
Smoke 'em if you got 'em, OP.
Invest in some Yalom. I've only read his more academic works but I hear Staring Into the Sun is awesome.
Also, here's a quote for you: We are here to laugh at the odds and live our lives so well that Death will tremble to take us.

Thank you so much for responding to me, I think its what I needed most.
I keep remembering the poem "Do not go gentle into that good night."
I read it so many times before I knew and thought it was so profound.
I'm sorry Dad.
I wanted to be there for you, but I just never had the time.
I'm sorry strangers, I just wanted my apology to exist in the universe, don't let the inevitable ever bring you down, even if some anon is sad now, I lived a hell of a life.

Does anyone have the original large version?
Nah that text isn't on the internet, the person who posted that image probably made it themselves.

>Joyce once said that he had "put in so many enigmas and puzzles that it will keep the professors busy for centuries arguing over what I meant", which would earn the novel immortality
Honestly, guys, is this really worthwhile? It seems more a pretentious thing wrote to not fall into oblivion. He got what he planned. Why should I read something that need a subsequent academic explanation?

Yes. Yes it is.
Just read the thing.

It's so good that even if you only get what is at surface level you'll love it.

Would you say the book could still be experienced through a translation (spic btw) or is too much of the greatness of the book tied to its use of the english language. if not ill get an english version but reading in a foreign language is a little bit of a chore
How good is Copleston's series on the history of philosophy? And why do almost all printings of this series use absolutely garish covers?
The best out there. Only real flaws occur towards the end, since Copleston was a contemporary of late 20th century philosophy. If you can't stand the length, then Anthony Kenny's book is a good substitute.
The last book should never have been written. He simply cannot grasp any philosophy of the 20th century. The rest is great as introducing core concepts and ideas. Especially the medieval books on the development of the scholastic tradition.

Anyone feel like this had some sick concepts in terms of high fantasy magic and world building politics/history only to be let down by the shit tier pacing and chapter structure like how he would just switch ftom one scene to another of some other person hundreds of miles away in the same paragraph? This alk with mentioning the retard tier love interest swearing MC off violence while she knowd her city and dearest friends are getting raped. Fuck me it had such potential.
