Hey bonessss!
I just finished reading The Stand, and I liked it a lot. I also read the Dark Tower series a year ago, and liked the first three books a lot (especially the second one).
Are there other authors / books similar to those two that are shorter?
swan song by robert mccammon is really good if you liked the stand, there's a lot taken from king but it goes its own way fairly quickly.
The Ogre does what ogres can,
Deeds quite impossible for Man,
But one prize is beyond his reach:
The Ogre cannot master speech.
About a subjugated plain,
Among it's desperate and slain,
The Ogre stalks with hands on hips,
While drivel gushes from his lips.
– W. H. Auden

The Ogre does what ogres can,
But the Delphyne *also* ran;
And this would-be POTUS was certainly feeling
That she would crack that Great Glass Ceiling.
Alas! Wisconsin doesn't matter much?
The rust belt, Deplorables, and such?
Let us read Ogre's tweets with sharp disdain,
But the *real* winner was *hubris* - once again.

Is it really worth reading all of them? What is each volume about?

Are you aware of his sexuality and llineage? Try the redpill and see for yourself
>>9805944
Oh, I see...
What about the first few volumes? I'm assuming the first one is about childhood and the second one is about girls.

a dress, some cookies, cork walls, and other minutia. I gave up after the second volume, felt like I was being trolled by highbrows and went on to more engaging authors.

Just trying to promote my self published novel.
Next time get one of those $5 online subcontractors to make a cover for you. I've seen much worse but if you have any interest in people picking up your book, you won't want the first thing they think to be that little effort was put into making it look presentable (then again assuming the writing is of the quality self-pubs are known for I guess slapping together your own cover is just being honest)
Are there any books involving ESP that are actually good? (Midnights children, Ubik)
>>9805885
The chrysalids.
>>9805885
is midnight's children actually good?
>>9805898
yeah ofcourse. its amazing
What does /lit/ think?
Does it talk about Isfahan, the Shadow Army?
>>9805878
Its about the West cultivating radical fundamentalists in the Middle East for decades, long before the Afghan Mujahideen as a matter of fact, to deter independence movements, pro-democracy initiatives, and anything that might threaten the position of their Gulf emirate client regimes
Is it worth reading all of this? Are there any chapters that /lit/ recommends in particular?
>>9805718
WHAT THE HELL IS THIS?
Is this exoteric stuff?
>>9805735
Why don't you beat it, kid?
>using adjectives superfluously
Stay cucked
Go to bed, Hemingway

>he uses 'cuck'
worse
>Using adverbs
>Saying "cucked"
>Using old fashioned words
Yo I'm heading off to uni in a month and my first year is a four credit arts program that's all reading and essays.
I've going to have a lot on my plate reading wise and my reading speed/skills have significantly gotten worse.
Tips for increasing my reading speed while still retaining an actual comprehension of the text?
Read while making notes, it forces you to concentrate on what the text actually says rather than skimming. Also just read more, it's like exercise, need to keep at it to stay /fitlit/

They let literal retards in these days. If you're smart enough to be here, you'll be at the top of your class by barely trying.

What is a book for the feel of being surrounded by idiots?
Ready Player 1
1. that was the best series of the last ten years
2. you're not as smart as you think you are

not saying I'm smart. I'm literally surrounded by idiots: I transferred to a lesser school and they coerced me into taking a writing course although I placed out of it at my former, way better and more respected school. So I have a bunch of part time students and moms and dads who admitted to disliking literature criticizing my essays. It's slightly infuriating
Ok so one I sincerely doubt I'll get a response to, but when I was a kid I remember reading this book about this kid who was an asshole in his class but had a heart of gold. One of them he made a printing business in order to afford some miscellaneous Nintendo console. Another one had him going on a school trip to a museum and having to sleep in the space exhibit. The only other thing I can remember is that he had a girlfriend called Jill who changed her name to "Jil!" because she was a try hard snowflake. Or a righteous free thinker. Whatever. There were also numerous references to "Leave it to Beaver" as being a favourite show of his and his family.
I don't even particularly want to read it, it's just been low key bugging me on and off for years as to what the series was called.
Anybody remember it?
