You srsly cant think of anything? Write a story about hamlet, guildenstern and rosencrantz in a comic situation during their childhood. Literally just thought of it after looking at your pic. If you dont want to borrow from shakespeare, then change the names.

Thanks guys but
>>
I thought of something today. 2 guys are friends, one practically handsome and likable, the other not so good looking and kind of unpopular. The handsome guy has his girlfriend and she is pretty too, but the three get along pretty well and the second guy often wonders how he manages to hang out with them and how they can accept him, but in reality the couple doesn't have many friends outside.

Anyway, the not-good-looking-guy has terrible luck with girls and out of pity and compassion, his friend cucks himself and lets the guy fuck his girlfriend while he's watching.

That's it though. Hope that helps.

I made a thread on here a day ago asking for people's favorite or most informative sections of the Bible and I had some good responses so I think I will make another.

Since yesterday I have read Samuel, Kings, Judges, Ecclesiastes. I have been jumping around and finding so much action and fun. Oh gosh when Saul and David... I nearly died. I havent even started reading the New Testament.

Just to reiterate, I have recently converted to catholicism and reading over the Bible for fun and so I can, sort of, catch up. Just to iterate as well though, I am not becoming a theologist, I am just looking for some good stories that might have some significance to life or really anything interesting

I am reading the Douay–Rheims Bible translation. I was also concerned because there is so many different apocryphal books and I am never certain which ones to look into and which ones not. Or maybe I should read them all? I really have no idea. Or maybe what I just said makes no sense to more seasoned veterans of such things?

I wouldn't recommend Douey-Rgeims, it's a translation of the latin translation of the bible. May as well get a direct translation. The stories about Saul and David are my favourites too, best part of the Bible imo.

About canon, here's a handy chart.

writing an anthology, but I need a title for it, there isnt really any common thread between the stories other that they're a little messed up

Stories include
Guy sees an alien and gets thrown in a mental institution

Guy in a rock band sells his soul to satan, only to find out that every other member of the band also sold their soul to satan

A waiter at a fancy restaurant wants to find out the secret to their world famous chicken, so he goes to the farm and finds out that the owner is farming DooDoo birds

A virgin living in london donates blood, and then it gets taken to the royal family so the queen can bathe in it

A rough violent mercenary in a fantasy setting enters a tournament to win the hand of a lords young daughter, but then gets his ass kicked by a character called "The last paladin"

I was originally going to use "Farseek" after a magic card, but that card is the first thing you see when you google it and I think it would be hard to get past it in google

what about "Stories Unhinged"

any suggestions

Anybody read this collection?
Pretty fire selection from Emerson on Gifts [then some wild boring anthropology] then some post structuralists including Derrida, Cixous, Bourdieu, then some Americans looking back on Nietzsche, Derrida, Levinas.

Any suggestions on where to go with this?

Bourdieu is the only one legit thinker. The rest is a bad philsoophy, don't waste time on it. The whole gift theory is only interesting in narrow anthropologic sense: various versions of pre-capitalist, pre-feudal economies. Philosophical-psychoanalitycal generalisations like these of derrida or others are garbage. Why do you find it interesting anyway?

The Derrida piece wasn't psychoanalytical gernalisations, more invested in a discussion of time in the context of exchange. idek one piece argued that gift exchange/ gift giving virtue was the crux of Thus Spake Zarathustra and that fascinated me cuz i hadn't read it in that context b4.

I've got a breif uni assignment due in about 8 hours.
It's 2:50am.
1000 words - Have to base it on a pre-written feature article; Subject matter is probably going to be something about a 'place'; and what the place constitutes, whether as an individual entity; or in relation to a given character.
I have to avoid putting the focus on predominately on monolougal thoughts; it needs to be about 'the place' itself.

I've got some ideas, If you've the time; some feedback would be appreciated;
Alternatively - I'd love to hear some short story ideas that you've explored yourself; or have yet to do so. /lit/ seems to be filled with some wonderful creatives.

TL:DR - Would love to hear some short story ideas; whether explored or not.

Futuristic Cityscape; balcony.
Finding solace in the face of a a BPD relationship (From the point of view of the non-sufferer)
- essentially; exploring the intrapersonal thoughts of the given character;
and seeing the 'place' itself; almost as a method of coping.
*relationship is not toxic; but is still a burden to bare for both the character and his/her partner.
Pushes the message; the BPD and its associated effects are not based upon a time period; and is a real issue to those involved whether now or in 150 years time.

Newfag to philosophy here
I've read some literature and philosophy before, but nothing in order, and that caused me to not understand some ideas as well as I could. I already know that I should "start with the greeks", but in what order should I read the rest of the philosophers?

I just got my hands on the entirety of the Wheel of Times series. I remember reading about half of it as a teen before falling off, I think due to catching up to the series, but maybe due a bit to boredom.

I could use a new high fantasy series, and have been exploring a few options. Malazan Book of the Fallen is another series I want to continue, but I'm exploring options before committing to one.

I've heard good things about the Inheritance Trilogy, and I tried Mistborn but fell out with it once I realized how lovey-dovey it got.

So did WoT series finish out well? Would you suggest giving it a reread?

The middle dragged and the end felt rushed. It's not bad for light reading, but it's huge time investment.
I read them all, but wouldn't do it again.

>So did WoT series finish out well? Would you suggest giving it a reread?
I love the series, read it all the way though for the first time two years ago, but I have to admit that it's got some serious issues.
After the first four or so books, and up until the last four, the first 90% of the books is just people walking, talking, and planning, then in the last tenth somebody finally executes their plan and it screws up everyone else's plans. The series would have really benefited from being some 4 books shorter.
Also, the women characters are for the most part really fucking similar, bitchy and arrogant and petty. And everyone, male and female, spends the whole series whining about how incomprehensible members of the opposite sex are.
I still liked it, but if I were to reread it I would probably skip a decent chunk of it.

imo yes, the 2nd or 3rd last chapter of Doctor Faustus is one of the most genius things I've ever read. It's kind of hard to explain but he basically manages to narrate character development plot forshadowing and the psyche of the protagonist by describing his musical compositon

Id like to know of a used, online bookstore where I can get prints like The Republic or The Social Contract from 40-50 years ago, that wouldn't be politically correct edits. Ideas?
