What are the main themes and messages Stoner wants to convey?

Men are disgusting
>raping your daughter
>>9850359
Life is pointless.
>>9850359
People are bigoted against cripples! Didn't you see how hard Stoner was on that poor young Walker?
How do I get over this writer's block. I've got a whole story line thought out, but I just can't write. I'm at approx. 20k words and i'm going for a 60k novel, but I just can't do it sometimes.
Any experience with writers block?
>>9850280
shit.
*How do I get over this writer's block?
t. drunk
I get that, I don't know if it's technically better than writer's block but whatever.
Just write, seriously just throw all the shit out of your head and sit down and write. You said it yourself, you know exactly what you want to happen, so just do it.
It is really that east, sit down, open the file, start typing what you want.
>>9850288
I always wonder how other writers did it. Especially the Steinbecks and Tolstoys of the world.
How do you cope with the feeling that you have to read and read and read or else the pseuds will come after you and kill you in your sleep?

Read more, eat and sleep.
Repeat.

This is an extremely typical style of discussion that epitomises today's "literary intelligentsia". The book it refers to is typical as well.

James Shapiro ended the debate. He discovered that the best evidence anti-Stratfordians had was a forgery.
Who's the Ikuhara of literature?
literally who?

Director of Revolutionary Girl Utena. He's known for his expressive use of symbolism and surrealism in his works. People often compare him with David Lynch.

who...?
No need to be a theory-whiz; just want a space devoted to the dialogue. These are Q's that I grapple with unsuccessfully--let's see if a group-dialectic is productive.
Any other Q's are welcome.
>Do you believe in God?
I try--faith is, I think, the ultimate achievement. Dostoevsky said that faith without daily doubt is hardly faith at all; it's a struggle. Believing in God is brave, courageous, and probably the least neurotic thing possible.
>Why are we here?
Something that most religions agree on is that existence = good. We exist, so, that's good, right? Are we here just to be happy, like Aristotle suggests?
>What is the Good Life?
Related to above. I think it has to do with a couple things almost everyone agrees are good: beauty, justice, and love. Possessing these three in your life: how could you go wrong?
>What does capitalism add/subtract to our existence?
It has provided material prosperity and an interconnected world unlike anything seen in human history. But just because we have global supply chains, are we connected in a sincere, positive, or beneficial way? How do we define "exploitation"?
>what can we do to make the world a better place for our kids?
Environmentalism seems to be one thing. I want there to be fundamental changes to the internet and social media. It's such a powerful mechanism, but it's not doing much good right now, with it being subjected to the lowest common denominator. Let's teach our kids how to have prolonged attention spans, and appreciate math and science. And the arts.
>human extinction nigh?
AI: a real problem, a real solution? Will our kids survive the Singularity?
Just some things buzzing around my head.

Question: how would you answer the Euthyphro Dilemma?
"Is what is morally good commanded by God because it is morally good, or is it morally good because it is commanded by God?"
>>9849773
Wouldn't we have to break down what "morally good" means? Intuitively, I think we get our morals FROM God/something beyond ourselves. Maybe we have a moral imperative because of what is 'commanded by god.' What do you think?
Can't say if this is legit or not but this shit is devastating. Can anyone verify this?

sorry but this is embarrassing
it would be sweet if some new media goon could make reading cool again but this cringey, deaddad, skinnyfat pseud isn't him
>>9849663
I don't know if he's a genius. He's definitely smarter than 99% of people, and probably has an IQ above 140, but I think the word genius should be reserved for the most elite in the world, like the top 100 most brilliant people. But I know I wouldn't like to get into a debate with Cliff.

What advantages does a prose translation have over a verse translation?
Easier to read. Plus there's no point in reading verse that was translated.
>>9849383
Verse translations require more effort and are almost always better because of it Fagles is basically prose but he at least tried to keep poetic elements. Lattimore was autistic about meter so sometimes it reads poorly.
How well are you at learning new words? Can you learn them on the spot or do you use flash cards as an assistance?
I personally have used Anki on and off for the past few years. I think it helps but I hate using it, it's always a pain in the butt to drudge through the words (and math problems, and anything else I am using it for).
Sometimes I think I should just maybe write the definitions down and read them occasionally or something. Idk.
I write down words I don't know into notepad. When there's like a 1000 words there I'll begin the process of learning them.
Anyone should be able to learn at least 10 new words a day, easily.
>>9849331
Yeah I think my problem with Anki is that I don't learn the words beforehand, I just copy the definitions in a flash card then I flash the cards in front of me before I am sick of seeing them.
What books would teach me about what constitutes an honest, virtuous and honourable life? Not how to achieve it, but how to distinct between it and the life of vices? I read the gospels; they are rather cryptic on this and don't help much. Is there no other way than to delve into the religious teachings of my choice? I'd prefer not to do that. Or are there any secular sources?
